You will love this place

We stayed over Christmas 2008 and I just can't believe that the Victoria-Ritter is rated only 3 stars. The rooms, food and public areas are all outstanding. The staff are very friendly and helpful and all speak good English. They have their own minibus and are always happy to ferry you to/from the station (which is only 200 yards away but no fun lugging heavy bags) or to the cable car station. The only criticism I had was that the Ritter rooms (in the older part of the hotel) didn't have tea/coffee making facilities. The Ritter rooms are charming, but I believe the Victoria rooms are better appointed. Local facilities are literally on the doorstep - you can step straight out the back door onto the cross-country ski trail. The ice rink and curling centre is just round the corner, and of course the hotel has its own indoor heated pool. Although the hotel is expensive (but everything in Switzerland is expensive!) I would rate it very good value for money.

The name of the hotel indicates it has two parts, the Victoria which contains the major part of the rooms, lounge, dining room, conference room, kids room, indoor pool and the Ritter which has fewer rooms in the classic local style, a ski bar and an excellent restaurant. The Ritter is the oldest part, founded over 200 years ago. A large number of the Victoria rooms have been face lifted and are therefore in a very good state. The kitchen is excellent; employees and management are very friendly. The indoor pool is a bonus. Good facilities for children, even for babies. The hotel is placed in the town's centre, a few minutes walking from the local train station.
