We stayed at the Royal St. Georges in May 2005. This is a BEAUTIFUL hotel, exceptional staff, and the location can't be beat. It rained while we were there so we spent a lot of time on the veranda which had windows that opened up onto the street where we could people watch and take in the breathtaking views of the alps! I was a little disappointed when we arrived to find that the hotel has NO air conditioning, however, we did not need it at all! Large spacious rooms and the largest bathroom we had our entire stay in Europe! Would definitely stay here on my next visit. I have actually stayed at the Victoria/Junfrau before and while it is super luxurious, for the money, I enjoyed St. Georges every bit as much.

Top Local Tips for Interlaken

Jungfraujoch A trip to Interlaken is not complete without a trip to the Jungfraujoch. However, to avoid the crowds, the best time to take the train from Interlaken Ost is from 08:00 to 09:00. This is just between when the early-rising visitors and those who rise later visit, and is generally the quietest time.

Swiss time Make sure you use one of the many reduced travel cards/passes which are valid for many transport options. Ours came with our package. SBB trains are super efficient and comfortable. If you can, do one journey in a panoramic car on the train. You get a great view of the mountains. We travelled first class which was exactly that, but the 2nd class carriages were very good.
