Just as good the second time

I had an excellent stay here two years ago and returned hoping that the hotel would still be as good - and it was. Very comfortable beds in a spacious room (I think the hotel calls the type First Class) with a balcony overlooking the entrance. Decent sized pool and an excellent breakfast. Helpful staff at reception and in the restaurant. Excellent (but expensive) evening meal. The hotel's website usually has rooms on offer for about 180 to 220Sfr, which is reasonable.

I already staid in some Lindner Hotels and Resorts and already knew about the real five star value of Lindner. The Lindner Grand Hotel Beau Rivage is a perfect place to relax in luxury. No need to stay in the crowded ski-resorts around Interlaken. Grindelwald, Mürren and Wengen can be reached easily by train (45min) or car (25min).
The restaurant, the bar, and the wellness facility are superb and motivate me to come back.

We knew we were going to enjoy staying at this hotel from the moment we arrived, at dusk, and saw the inviting chandelier-lit dining room. The Reception staff were charming and immediately organised the collection of our luggage from the station. Our rooms (there were four of us) were very comfortable and spacious. Perhaps we were given an upgrade because it was low season when we arrived. The food was outstanding, probably the best we have ever had in any hotel. Presentation was superb and the content suggested a very innovative chef. Service was efficient and friendly. We stayed for a week, and were glad that we chose to stay on a half-board basis. Music in the Bar was very pleasant but unobtrusive. The proximity of the railway station was convenient because we took three-day passes on the Jungfrau mountain railway system and were able to visit all the mountain villages and the spectacular peaks. The town centre was about ten minutes walk. Virtually all staff spoke impeccable English, as did the staff at the railway station who we found were particularly helpful.
This all sounds too good to be true so we tried to think of some negative comments but the worst we could come up with was that the shower water temperature was a bit difficult to regulate - it seemed to fluctuate according to whether other guests were drawing off hot water in their rooms.

My husband and I stayed at the Beau Rivage in late November. The hotel was wonderful - large rooms (especially for Europe) and becuase the hotel was not full, we had an upper floor room with balcony overlooking the alps. The champage breakfast buffet is excellent - we have traveled extensively in Europe and this is one of the best! It was also included in our rate. The hotel is easily a short walk (5-7 minutes) from the Ost train station - even with large luggage. All trains typically stop at both stations. We did the Top of Europe tour and loved it - very scenic! The staff were very helpful in planning our time and all spoke very good english.

Got to agree with the last reviewer. Good, but not 5 star service.
Probably the nicest location in Interlaken though. Love Switzerland and the Alps, but will probably not stay in Interlaken again. Too many other beautiful towns.
BTW, like a previous reviewer, we asked ( very politely ) on our last day if there was any chance of breakfast 10 minutes early as we had an early train to Italy. ( as breakfast is only from 7 ) The staff member made it very clear we were causing him problems, and made us detail which train we were catching.
Not 5 star service, and left us with mixed feelings re this hotel.

Good and Bad but not 5 star value

Good stuff - room size, mountain view, leisure facilities, breakfast choice & size, complimentary afternoon tea, proximity to station.
Not so good stuff - lack of air conditioning, lack of secure facilities for bikes, variable quality of staff, especially dinner service, price/value.
Overall, it was a wake up call that big impersonal hotels just aren't us. We possibly felt more let down because staying in a 5 star hotel was our treat in the middle of a cycling holiday and we didn't expect service and facilities to be of a lower quality than the one night stopovers, which were at least half the price.

Beautiful Lindner

The Lindner is not only close to a large grocery store where you can get all your snacks and drinks, it's within five minute walking distance from the train station (the hotel will pick you up if you need to by van). The hotel staff was extremely polite, courteous, and accomodating (even though we didn't speak any German, French, or Italian). It's also minutes away from all the other touristy shopping places, but far enough not to be tacky. The beds are not the most comfortable, but the pillows and the blankets are down filled and extremely soft. In the summer the hotel probably gets hot because it didn't seem like they had central air conditioning, but when we went it was still spring and the airy breeze from the balcony windows was just right. Also we could see the snow covered peaks of the Alps from our rooms which was breathtaking. We were considering cutting our visit short and asked whether we could get a refund - although the hotel could not give us a refund due to whatever arrangement they had entered into with hotwire, they did give us a discounted rate for the night and was overly apologetic about not being able to refund our money. Last but not least, the complimentary breakfast is just awesome. Sometimes they would even open the buffet early because they knew we had to make an early train ride - the meats they have at the buffet are something you would see at a brunch at the Four Seasons, the breads are just as good, a million different kinds of fruits, tea, coffee, preserves, etc. All in all a great value!

A superb hotel with warm and friendly staff. The room with a mountain view are excellent. The breakfast was fine (limited for vegetarians but the quality of food was good). The Linder is a hotel that you would come back to as it makes you feel special. Just book it!

Rooms are pretty good. Not the best attribute of the hotel, however, as they are a bit dated. Not bad. Just a bit. Bathroom was excellent.
Service is beyond excellent. Prepare to be pampered. Buffet is extraordinary (even by American standards), and would go for $25+ per head at a lot of European hotels. Keep this in mind when reserving a room.
Pool area is beautiful, although they could use a jacuzzi. It's clean and very very nice! Great view. Great place to relax. Speaking of great views - the rooms have them too!
Also, there are good deals to be found so shop around. We checked out the Victoria hotel and this place is better!

I can't think of a single negative thing to say about this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful at every turn. The service in our room was impeccable, yet invisible. We loved that they came in and straightened our room whenever we were out and of course left the obligatory chocolate on our pillow each evening. The concierge recommended a lovely local fondu restaurant for us one evening and called ahead to reserve the best table for us. The breakfast buffet is incredible! What a way to start the day before hitting the slopes. I also had the best full-body massage of my life in the hotel spa, which they scheduled for me outside of their normal opening hours. We were pampered at every turn and can't wait to return.
Top Local Tips for Interlaken
Terrific Swiss trains Buy a pass and get around everywhere on the superb trains and public transport. It is clean, punctual and very 'joined up'.
wonderful swiss railways Interlaken is well located for a self-organised trip as Swiss railways are efficient and easy to work out - so even the least adventurous travellers can work out transport across the region. Its convenient, safe, clean and easy to use and many locations are accessible by train and gondola/cable car for amazing walks and stunning views.
Get up and go Always have a Swiss Pass this will let you go most places for free from boats on the lakes , take a trip to Zurich shopping , to star spotting in Gsaad , lunch in Luzern. Vistit a museum all included in the price.Even the local buses in major cities are included.
