Historical Traveller Reviews of President Wilson Hotel

Doesnt deserve terrible marks.

from yangs02
alot of reviews so far are fairly negative. i suppose this review will boost the overall rating as i do not feel the hotel deserves such extremely low marks. i stayed at this hotel on points (free), so i would be more charitable as regards value although i will try to rate this based on the going rate (roughly $500 at the time of this posting).

anyway, this is a fairly chic, modern, luxury business hotel. its true the exterior is somewhat utilitarian, but it has reasonably clean lines. the rooms are very luxuriously turned out, especially the marble baths--mine was exceptionally clean. i did not find the room furnishings particularly shabby or outdated. i had the most basic room and it was reasonably fresh and modern, clean chic and comfortable, and i found the materials fit and finish to be of high quality.

the pool area was also very posh and modern. it felt very glamorous there. the pool staff were very helpful in turning out the lounge chairs and fetching drinks, etc.

the other common area, lobby and lounge were fairly luxurious with nice decorative touches and materials.

the staff was uniformly helpful and nice, and spoke english very easily. they readily gave suggestions for going out, and helped to arrange TGV tickets to paris for us, and had them picked up and waiting at the hotel when we got back from our day. very professional, and what i would expect from a luxury hotel.

its true that the location is somewhat on the edge of things, but everything is walkable, and sometimes its nice to be away from the center. this you will have to decide for yourself.

there is a garage underneath. i had a rental car and found the garage fairly handy, a little pricey (40CHF) although everything in geneva is.

as far as value, given the cost of other places and everything in general in geneva i dont thing the rate is completely out of control, although it is a lot of money.

Avoid at all costs

I reserved a superior room looking at the website and I left the hotel when I saw the room: simply horrible, very old and not worth the price tag.

The bathroom are the only decent thing (with marble) but the room are bad and very very old.

Even in a Suite, which I asked to see just in case I could upgrade, wasn't anything worth the price and money. Is also in the "dead" side of the lake. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone which is looking for good value for money or a romantik week end.

s wrong there

I don't like their billing policy. At my arrival they charged me a kind of advance or insurance, at my departure they charged me again. It's been a week and they still owe me 1000!!!!

Very Swiss (i.e. comfortable, clean, dull and expensive)

Nice comfortable boring hotel. Great for business travel.

Nice property but shame about the staff...

I stayed at the President Wilson in October 2004 for one night. The rooms are well appointed, although small. Go for a view of the lake. Our room wasn't prepared when we arrived but the receptionist escorted us to the bar and ensured we received complimentary refreshments whilst we waited.

I did find one lady on reception very unhelpful and rude the morning of our departure. She just couldn't be bothered, and it showed! On the basis of that, I would never return to this hotel. Its amazing how one miserable moment and put you off for life!

Nice and comfortable

The hotel's exterior is not attractive at all (modern and boring), but the room was wonderful. It was clean, spacious and comfortable. Bathroom was very nice and clean. Room had a nice view of the mountains and lake.

Nice Modern Hotel with a View

Stayed in Feb 04. Nice but relatively small rooms (for the price) with in-room fax almost all with lake view, tiny gym, ridiculous expensiv spa, great roof-top swimming pool (in the summer). Certainly one of best waterfront hotels in Geneva.

the good the bad and the ugly(this hotel falls uunder the catogory of ugly)

stayed in the imperial suite.Dining was okay. The rooms were not lit good. The price i had to pay wasreally bad

the bed issue...

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is nice an the food is very good althought they might seem to have a problem with the matresses. It is like sleeping on a rock. I asked it to be changed but they very politely said me that all the matress were from the same brand and that they could do nothing on that respect. The solution was to put 2 duvets on top of the matress and then the rest of the sheets and blankets. personel is pretty well trained and the rooms are very spacious and nice, so if you do not mind your body acking for a bad night sleep you should not miss this spot.

After arriving at the hotel at 5PM in the evening, the Hotel staff at the desk stated that NO rooms were clean and that I could leave my luggage with the concierge staff. I did so and recieved a ticket for my luggage and I left the hotel. Hours later upon my arrival the Chief Concierge takes my ticket and states that my luggage will be brought to the room. As of the next morning I did not receieve the luggage. I was told repeatedly that the luggage was lost and that they had given it to someone else. The Chief Concierge took the receoit I had given to him, gave me his card and said that the insurance company would pay if they did not find the luggage. Two months have passed now and we have corresponded several times and they have agreed to pay for the lost luggage. When the date arrived in which they agreed upon, the requested an additional two weeks which was granted. After that two weeks the hotel faxed me a letter stating that no evidence of the lugagge was found and that they were not paying anything. I find this to be theft of my luggage and I am persuing a legal application against the hotel. Do not trust your luggage with the hotel as it may not be safe especially if you have naything you want to keep.
