Perfectly Located, Perfect Little Hotel

Can't say enough good things about this hotel. It is literally a 10-minute walk to both Geneva Centrale station and also Lake Geneva, on a quiet side street and quick stroll to all variety of very good restaurants.

We got there a bit early and they held our bags for a few hours while we walked around down to the lake -- 10 minutes away from a view of the Jet d'Eau, boats, sunshine, etc.

The bed was delicious and comfortable, the bathroom was sensational. The room fee included a lavish breakfast with everything you could possibly want, with another quick walk back to the station.

The hotel is modern, quiet and they have several computers with free internet access.

Recommended without reservation.

My husband and I spent 1 night here on our way to the Bernese Oberland. This is a super little hotel, with very friendly, helpful staff. The room was decorated in the style of the British Raj . Although the room was not big , it was confortable and well laid out. The bathroom had a super well lit mirror and a great shower. There is a great little cafe/ restaurant 50 metres down the street which makes up for the fact that the hotel does not serve dinner and has a bar which shut at 9 pm. I would certainly return to this hotel for another short break.

Me and my fiance stayed here in August for 3 nights. It was a really pleasant surprise. It felt more like a 4 star hotel than a 3 star - very modern we had a lovely big room and a great bathroom. Little touches like chocolates on your pillows and complimentary drinks available in reception made it feel special. We'd also recommend the breakfast. Loads of choice - cereals, fruit, cheese, meat, lots of breads and pastries and you could even boil your own egg however you liked. The location was great for us as we arrived in Geneva by train, and it is very close to the station. Not the greatest part of town, but it was a short walk down to the lake which was beautiful. We'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheaper option in Geneva - because it didn't feel cheap at all! I'd also recommend staying here as opposed to the Manotel Edelweiss, which is at the bottom of the same street. This looked extremely tacky and kitsch from the outside to us, whereas the Kipling had a sense of luxury the minute you walked in.

Nice, comfortable hotel/good location

We stayed for one night in the hotel and found it to be in a good location and within an easy walk to the lake and the old part of the city. Very short walk to/from train station. Reception personnel was helpful and efficient. The room very well appointed and the price reasonable. Breakfast was nice and saves one from wandering aimlessly in search of something else. I'd certainly stay in this hotel again and/or any other Manotel hotel in Geneva.

Stopped in Kipling hotel, geneva for 1 night after arriving on our way to Italy. Very comfortable, easy to find hotel. Good value for money.

Pretty good hotel

Stayed here for a one night stop over returning from the French Alps. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the decor and cleanliness are great. Rooms are reasonably sized, very airy and cool and bathrooms are pleasant - though the showers are not to the same standard as the other fittings, (but that's being picky!) We thought the standard of accomodation was good and represented good value in Geneva. It's also distinctive and you do feel that you are in a boutique hotel rather than a large chain.

Breakfast lets the side down. It's probably one of the worst basic continental breakfasts I've had. Everything is pre-packed - the cheese is served as plastic wrapped ,individual (sweaty) portions, poor yoghurt, dry bread, soggy pastries and limp fruit. I was surprised and disappointed. If only they'd paid attention to fresh supplies the hotel would be great. My advice - take breakfast elsewhere, or just grab a coffee (which was good).

Location is fine - most of the reasonably priced hotels are in similiar locations in Geneva. It looks a little seedy, but we felt safe enough walking back at night. You can avoid the children's play area on the Rue de Navigation by taking the 1st right, then 1st left after the hotel and head towards the lake. Airport taxi was about 40 swiss francs for 4 people and baggage.

One note - we stayed on 15 July, the day of Geneva's lake parade. This was the most boring, drawn out parade I've ever seen - a long stream of identical floats consisting of clubbers dancing badly to euro-techno (no variation whatsoever, no theme, no interest!) and creating huge amounts of litter. If you want to see Geneva at it's best - avoid this weekend - we wish we'd taken a trip out of the city.

Best 3-star value in Geneva

Over the past years or so I have stayed in a number of different 3-star hotels in Geneva and I would now rate the Kipling as the best of them. The rooms are finished to a high quality and are of a good size bu European standards. The staff on reception I found to be very friendly and helpful. The hotel offers free WiFi Internet access and there are also two PCs available in the lobby. The breakfast room is well decorated and there is a very extensive selection of things to tempt the palate. The hotel also has a very modern air-conditioning system. Although the hotel is just off the busy Rue de Lausanne, the Rue de la Navigation is one-way and does not carry much traffic. It is only 5 minutes walk from the main railway station and there is also a tram stop just around the corner. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Geneva - highly recommended.

very modern clean hotel. Fantastic bathroom and beds so comfortable it was difficult to get out of them. Excellent location too - only five minutes walk from Cornavin Station. 10 minute walk to lake. Breakfast is optional and plenty of good cafes, restaurants and bars nearby if you prefer to eat out.

3 of us just came back from Geneva. This hotel has an excellent location, staff are nice and a room is great. Just one point to say about breakfast, there was no change ( at all) while our staying ( 5 days). It costs 7 GBP per head. It does not worth..Overall, it is OK.

Excellent hotel in great location

Stayed here based on previous reviews of this hotel. Rooms were huge, modern and clean compared to other hotels i have stayed at in Europe. Great location just around corner from the Red Light district of Geneva which gives it a bit of flair at night with small bars etc...Would definately stay here again, short walk from train station and all other parts of town.

Top Local Tips for Geneva

Have a good look around first! We were quite surprised by how smoky restaurants were in Geneva, smoking is allowed just about everywhere and we found few non smoking areas. Also, unless you want to try some of the many (and excellent) ethnic eateries, you may be disappointed with the general range available, pizza, pasta etc, but rest assured you will not starve! One good point we found was that your food arrives quickly and is usually tasty. We found prices to be higher than at home, but not too bad, make sure that you study the menus as frequently they will say "servis compris" which basically means that you dont have to tip!

Sundays - shops closed No shops open on Sundays, not even supermarkets. The only exceptions were the small newsagent type shops and the shops in the train station (but not in the adjoining Metro shopping centre). Some of the smaller independant shops also stayed closed until Monday afternoon.
