Not a 5 Star-Seriously

My partner and I booked this hotel got a very good deal for the weekend.
Thinking it was a 5 star of quality. To be honest i've stayed in better 3 stars.
Though the staff were very friendly,the rooms were spotlessly clean,it still wasn't a 5 star and for the life of me I dont know how they got the stars.
The accomadation is basic to say the least,the foyer is nice enough but the halls to the rooms were like something out of the 1970's with disgusting suspended ceiling tiles the type you'd see in an office complex.
Mini bar was outrageously priced €10 for a beer and €17 for a small cognac.
Again the staff were friendly,the location is excellent between gamla stan and the north of the city and is across from the Central Station.

Whjen arriving in Arland Airport,Stockholm dont get a taxi grab the Arlanda Express train and you'll be in the centre of town in 20 mins. lOOK OUT FOR THE SPECIAL OFFERS for train tickets.

Stockholm is nice,we had a great time but I wouldn't stay in this "5*" again.

Go for the Radisson instead!

We stayed here for a short break in Aug 2004. Yes it's in a great location near the shops, old town and attractions BUT this is very much a business hotel, so you are just another guest here. Our room was fine but no view, just of the roof, didnt use any of the hotel facilities apart from reception who - 1) couldnt find out booking
2) tried to charge us for someone else's bill! luckily we noticed this prior to checking out on their tv system, so managed to get it sorted.
3) reception staff although could speak perfect english (as can everyone is Sweden, which made me feel awful, as I only know a few Swedish words!) , were very slow and not very helpful.
We will definitely go to Stockholm again, lovely food, fantasitc city, everything within walking distance, just ace! I would go to the radisson hotel which is right opposite the train station, this way you can walk through the train station from the airport bus and there's your hotel, rather than having to drag your luggage round to the Sheraton!
For anyone who is going, do visit the tourist information centres, the girls are very helpful and also buy a stockholm card - this gives you entrance to nearly all of the attractions and this way you can save loads of money and spend it on the gorgeous food in the evenings instead! The boat cruises around the canel and Drottingholm Palace are a must and also a visit to Durgarden (sorry probably spelt wrong!) where the Vasa Museum and Skansen are - both a must. A lovely clean city and all we hope is that they start flying from Gatwick and the other airports, rather than grotty Heathrow!

Very friendly hotel

I regularly travel to stockholm and have tried a lot of the hotels there. If the Sheraton is available this is my first choice. The rooms vary a little - but in general I usually get a fairly quiet room with parquet floors. The breakfast is wonderful. The location (near the airport train, railway station & coach station - as well as Gamla Staden) is great. The hotel staff are ever so helpful and friendly.

Terrible experience

I stayed in this hotel from June 17-23, 2005. It was a terrible experience. The management of this hotel is a joke. I was expecting an important call to my room from the US. I waited for an hour. Finaly I received a call. The people on the other end told me they had been calling me and the hotel never answered the phone. They dialled the correct number because in the end they got through. Because of this I missed a important business opportunity. I called the hotel manager to complain. I called the manager on duty that night . He said he would get back to me, never did. Then I called the general manager. She said she wanted to check what had happened. Finally another manager called me back (three days later) to let me know that there was nothing wrong with the switchboard and therefore not their fault. Very unsatisfying answer! No apologies, no offer for any compensation. This is not the only management problem they have. When I call the receprion desk for other issues half the time they don't answer the phone either. Rooms are not made until late in the evening. There is a huge line for the very cramped breakfast restaurant every morning. The food is mediocre. The whole impression of this hotel is not a 5-star business hotel but that of a lousily run cheap chain.
If you are on business in Stockholm, DON't stay here. Horrible experience.

Over-rated!

Just returned from 3 days at The Sheraton. It is a smart hotel in a great location, within walking distance of all the major attractions.

We had a room facing the courtyard. Although clean and comfortable, it was very basic - not my idea of 5* luxury. I have stayed in far better 4* (even 3*) hotels.

I only have a couple of minor gripes:

The hotel serves Afternoon Tea in the lobby from 3pm to 5pm. The tea was cold (as were the coffees throughout our stay) and the buffet was sparse. Definately not worth 110 SKR.

Be careful of the lift buttons on the fourth floor - none of us dare touch them as they gave us all static electric shocks.

My tip:
Try out 'The Coffee Cup' in the main tourist street in Gamla Stan - a great place to grab a coffee and bagel!

Don't miss the changing of the guard at The Royal Palace.

Good all-rounder

Stayed here for business and then on for the weekend for pleasure. Very fortunate to be upgraded to a water view room through the Starwood Preferred Guest program. Thought the hotel was in a great location to get to all points of interest. Only a 5 min walk to Gamla Stan and the Royal Palace. Service was excellent as were the staff. Rooms were immaculate, spacious and clean. Expensive (but that's Sweden). We got a 3 for the price of 2 deal through (---). Recommended.

I only stayed here for one night, but found the hotel to be everything I would have expected. I read a previous article about the rooms being dated, ok so they were a bit dated and very brown and beige, but what hotel isn't. The rooms looked like any other four/average five star hotel I have stayed in. The hotels location is superb, a few minutes walk to the Arlanda express and I managed to walk to most of the tourist bits of Stockholm with ease (even with a five year old and his little legs!). The only problem I found was with the TV internet access, was so blurry I couldn't see anything. Other than that I thought the hotel was great. Staff very helpful and friendly. The food (especially room service) was very very expensive, however the breakfast was superb, a bit on the cold side but that might have something to do with the fact the the poor room service man had been knocking on my door for 10 mins trying to wake me up!! at least he was patient.

Good location, good service

Our family of 3 had long weekend in Stockholm this April. First of all - we really enjoyed location of the hotel. Only 3 min. walk from Stockholm Central Station, where you arrive from airport by bus. Only 2 min. walk to bus which goes to famous Vasa museum and Djurgarden. Right at the front of hotel is bus stop which goes to several museums of Skeppsholmen island. Old city (Gamla Stan) you may see from the hotel's windows and it's only 5 min. walk. We had 2Q beds in our quite spacious room and large bathroom. Concierge helped us with all requests - how to get, where to buy, etc. You will get standard breakfast (w/o 'local touch') for such a chain hotel, but we hardly can complain. At time of checking in hotel had some issues with their new IT system and we had to wait 5-7 minutes while staff will process all the details. As apology of such inconvenience they handed out vouchers of 200 SEK (22 EUR) against any purchase at hotel's restaurants or bar. We didn't hesitate to spend them at Die Ecke restaurant where plates were enormously big. So, if you have good deal over the net - stay there, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Booked in to this hotel for 5 nights and left after 1. This place is stuck in the 70's with a very tired, old-school feel to it. The location is good but does not in any way make up for the horrible rooms which make you feel like you're in a brown and biege nightmare !

There are many much better hotels in Stockholm, try the Radisson Strand with a water view if you can - same price as the Sheraton and far more comfortable, stylish and enjoyable to be in.

Great Hotel

Stayed here many times on Business and once for pleasure. Situated in Down Town Stockholm, just across from the central railway and metro stations. The shops and old Stockholm are all in walking distance, as well as the main bus station. The Arlanda airport is 5 minutes walk then 25 minutes train ride away.

The building is older but the rooms are to a high standard and are furnished typically Swedish. The prices are expensive but then everything in Sweden is expensive (compared to the UK). Staff are nice and friendly and the breakfast and bar snacks are to the typically high Swedish standard.

My only gripe (and this is about a lot of big hotels) is they dont put tea/coffee making facilities in the room. If you want a cup of tea, bring a travel kettle!

Would not hesitate to use again or recommend to anyone staying in Stockholm

Top Local Tips for Stockholm

Arlanda Express or Taxi ? The Arlanda express is a great way to get from the airport to the city, very fast and clean. However if there are two of you there is not a lot of price difference between this train and taking a taxi. I loved the train but if you are unsure where you are staying the taxi might be a better bet because it will take you to the door fo the hotel. If there are three of you it is much cheaper to get a taxi of course.

Excellent neighbourhood restaurants Sabai Sabai, Thai restaurant - really cheesy interior, in fact, we would probably have looked in and thought no way, but it was recommended to us and the food was fantastic. Tranan, bistro style restaurant - quite simply, very good food. Both required a couple of stops on the Metro from the city centre, but definitely worth it.
