Only stayed the one night but I was pleasently surprised at how good the quality was considering the very competitive price. Would certainly stay again next time I'm in Stockholm.
The fact that it was close to the Arlanda express terminal was a bonus as well.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Radisson SAS Royal Viking Hotel

Wonderful but expensive

from halopes
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The only (major) minus I could find was the price (a bit expensive; but isn’t everything expensive in Sweden?). I was also a bit surprised to find out breakfast was not included.

Other than that, everything was near perfection.

The location couldn't be better - right next to Central Station (perfect for travelling to the airport or catching the subway) and a few minutes walk from downtown.

Lobby architecture is wonderful. Breakfast was excellent. The room was not very big but it was very clean and quite cosy. The view from the 7th floor was beautiful.

The bar at the top floor is a must - although it may be difficult to grab a seat. Beer was awful, but I guess that's a Swedish problem.

Check-in was quick but there were some queues to check-out. Staff was nice and helpful.

I definitely recommend this hotel.

The Best In Stockholm

This hotel is in the center of it all. Walking distance to the train station/bus terminal, minus all the sound. Top notch restaurant in the hotel (great seafood) and next to all of the wonderful shops and restaurants in the city (across the street from Bofhus, a Steakhouse, nearby Ahlens Department store). It is clean, and like I said the price and location go hand in hand. The front desk was always friendly and they had no problem mapping out for my wife and I walking agendas (like to the 100 or so museums near this hotel, no exaggeration!). Hats off also to a receptionist by the name of Pia who consistently told us which restaurants were good. Highly recommend this hotel for its location, service, and overall 5 star quality. It was great and for a hotel in a "big" city, safe.

Most of the higher ranked hotels were full and we booked a 4 day stay in this hotel with some misgivings, after having read some less than enthusiastic reviews of the Radisson. (If you're planning a visit to Stockholm book early). I must say that we were very pleasantly surprised. The location is excellent. The hotel is right next to the Central Station, where the Airport trains and buses arrive at and depart from. No need for a taxi or to carry heavy bags distances. The hotel is very close to the main shopping area. We like to walk and were able to get almost everywhere on foot. The hotel itself also surpassed our expectations. The public areas were fine, the room itself was large, clean, in excellent condition and well-equipped. As others have noted, the breakfast room was crowded, with tables very close to each other, but there were newspapers available and the breakfast itself was fine. Unlike most hotels, breakfast is not included in the room rate.

The best part was the staff, especially the front desk. We had a number of special requests, and they fulfilled each very professionally and courteously.

I would not hesitate to return to the SAS Radisson.

Not the 5* it promised to be

from RobinEFox
I stayed here for a magic convention in Stockholm. The hotel was functional. rather than luxurious. There were some disappointments. My room was close to a couple of lifts, but for most of my stay, only one of them worked. The skybar, which a number of guidebooks say offers one of the best views in Stockholm was closed, and at first it was a little difficult navigating my way around the hotel to find my room.

That said, it was clean and comfortable, and the staff treated me with the respect and courtesy that one would expect in a hotel of this type.

I have rated this with 4* for above average, but I cannot say it was excellent.

Comfy if a bit stodgy, seems more a business hotel

As we were coming over from the airport our cab driver kept telling us that the SAS was one of the two best hotels in Stockholm, next to the Grand. I guess that is just his taste, because to me they are both a bit frumpy and bland. We stayed at the SAS for three nights and it was nice and nicely located, but a bit dated. Very 80's with the decor, but big and serviceable at the same time. They had a decent gym and a not so decent pool (can it still be considered a pool if it is so small you can barely get two people in it?).

I've also stayed at the Rival, and while its location is off the beaten path, I'm afraid it puts the SAS to shame and makes it seem like a total dinosaur. And it's not cheap either.

Excellent location and overall hotel

Booked this hotel at the last minute online. We knew where it was, and that was partly why. Off the airport train, onto the main road, and turn right. Ideal location for arrival/leaving, and you can leave your baggage if you have a later flight and want to take a very short wander into town before going home. Staff were very friendly, and the room was a good size (and had a bath as well as a shower!) In-room tea & coffee, which isn't common in Skandi countries (we travel around a lot). Would certainly book to stay here again!

Excellent location

Stayed for a few nights in March. Superb location, right by main railway station and near to main shopping area. No noise problems though, and not in any way seedy like some station areas.

Hotel of a very good standard, but rather dated. Room was fine, and quiet. Ice makers on all floors - handy for the summer.

Staff on reception pleasant and efficient. Saw no queues.

All the usual satellite TV channels (including the appalling BBC World - why is this so poor, when the BBC in the UK is so good?).

Breakfasts good and varied, as you would expect, but horribly overcrowded and tables far too close together. Not exactly very pleasant.

A good hotel, but could be better.

s working.

Stayed in this hotel for one night because I got a discount and good price. The hotel have a nice lobby, and the check in/check out is efficient. The staff provides a unpersonal and cold service. But this is Sweden, right!?

Rooms are worned down, and needs an upgrade and renovation. Interior from the mid 80s I guess...You get the old Sheraton feeling when stayin in this hotel. Room provided with coffee/tea set which is very good. Satelite television with many international and national channels. The bed was very comfertable. After a long day of strolling around in Stockholm it is a pleasure to sleep in this bed. Bathroom little bit old, but working properly.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Right in the very city centre.

Overall a okey place to stay. I just wish Radisson could invest some money in upgrading and renovating the rooms, because they really need it.

pleasantly surprised

from bernieruane
three of us from ireland booked in for two nights one room had a leak but we got complimentaries instead we were not charged for breakfasts. it was only a small bathroom leak. staff were extremely helpful and informative. i travel a lot and this hotel was ideal. it really was in the centre and it was possible to walk everywhere. The shopping areas were just across the road.It was only six mins walk to tours pick up point The barstaff were extremely polite. it was a great choice.

Convenient Radisson Group Hotel

from CX
An overall nice stay with a major advantage the location of the hotel in the heart of the city.

Building is nicely decorated with an atrium in the midlle of the building.

- High end decoration in the room
- Lux bathroom and amenities (loved the orange scented swoer gel)
- Cleaness of the rooms
- Reception and coffee/bar area
- Arlanda Express station only a block away!
- Friendly staff - thenks to Lost And Found people there!

- Highspeed internet access only! by WiFi (get a WiFi card before going there!)
- 20Euro charge per day (this will be free for Frequent Guest as from September 1, 2005)
- Gym and Pool closed for renovation but the hotel site did not mention anything on this...
- If u call the reception u might have to wait 5 min to get an answer!

Overall a nice and pleasant stay...

Top Local Tips for Stockholm

Buy your ticket before boarding On both the buses and the undergound you need to purchase tickets beforehand from newsagents or the ubiquitous 7-Eleven stores.

Opinion Stockholm is a magnificent city and very walker friendly as everything is so close. For a city it has a wonderful feeling of being very spacious and relaxing and the people are very friendly and easy going as well as excellent English speakers. It is very clean and very safe.
