Gorgeous and comfortable

I booked the hotel for a romantic break for my boyfriend's birthday on the basis of a magazine review, intrigued by the beautiful design and the concept of creating your own ambience using the lighting in the rooms. we were not in any way disappointed. The room was stylish, simple, comfortable and gorgeous. The rest of the hotel as far as we could see followed suit. We didn't use all the facilities but the bar and restaurant were great if a little pricey (but after all this is stockholm so pricey is the name of the game most everywhere). The staff were very friendly, helpful (and I have to note extremely attractive!) The hotel is wonderfully central and easy to get to being a stones throw from the train station. We hugely enjoyed our stay and I would love to go back there again. Highly recommended.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Nordic Light Hotel

Fine but no value for the money

from A TripAdvisor Member
It is such a hit in some of the reviews and publicity that expectations were too high. The design is indeed a bit original. But the "light show" is really disappointing. Good on the design table but in reality just a few coloured lights, somewhat disturbing even. Check in and front desk in general not very helpful, we had confirmed booking for sister hotel "Nordic Sea" but did not get it, and had to wait in the lobby for more than an hour to be able to check in Nordic Light. It was all blamed to "computer problems". Anonymous, cold atmosphere. Breakfast chaotic, not enough space to sit everybody. The sauna/sport facility is a laugh. One has to pass through a labyrint, even through an underground parking garage to get in. With a complex entry procedure, key cards that does not always work, after which you have to go back through the same labyrint, standing in queu for reception once more, in order to get a new card ... Showers not working, broken down two days in a row. Rooms at the side of the main street are rather noisy. Cleaning service slow, one has to ask for room cleaning number of times before the maid shows up. It can be worse, certainly, but next time I'll look for another one, despite the great location, conveniently near the train station to the airport, right in the middle of the centre. And despite the fabulous and really worthwhile visit to the "Ice bar" (which is in sister Nordic Sea, just across the street), however everyone can visit that bar, you don't have to stay in one of these hotels. I will visit Nordic Sea next week (hope to be get my room this time) and will see whether that one is better. Actually don't think so, since same management and same staff.

Pleasant, convenient but not value for money.

The Nordic Light Hotel is in a fantastic location in the centre of Stockholm close to public transportation however the design of the hotel and rooms are not worth raving about.
It seems like the hotel hasn’t maintained any of their décor since opening in 2001 as it looks a bit tired and worn in places.
We wouldn’t recommend taking advantage of their special “Mood Rooms”. The deluxe mood room, although modern and clean was not exceptional as the brochure suggests and felt more like a standard size room. The light therapy was a bit of a gimmick and eventually broke down.
The service was speedy and the staff were helpful though not as friendly as we have found in other cities.
Overall this hotel is pleasant, convenient but not value for money.

Very disappointed!!

We just checked out of the Nordic Light this morning. The checkin desk was very helpful and our room was ready shortly after we arrived (10:30 am) The room was very small with hardwood floors. We could not adjust the temperature setting, so too warm to sleep. The bed was very hard and not comfortable. The bathroom too small, especially the shower. Few towels, no wash clothes. The next day we returned to our room about 2:00 pm and it was not cleaned, so I called housekeeping. They said we were next, I waited an hour and called again. Said were coming right now, so we left. Also, as we were leaving we saw the cleaning girl to let her know we were gone. We returned at 7:00 pm to a dirt room, she never showed up. We complained to the front desk and there was nothing they could do except change our room or give us some more towels. Needless to say we will never return. We even asked for some credit which I will be surprised if we ever see.

Good Hotel

I have stayed at this hotel before with my partner and I chose to stay again during mid May while was in Stockholm myself on business. I stayed for three nights in total.

I still like this hotel, its very modern/trendy and clean. Its central location right near the Arlanda Express train to the airport is perfect. Its sister hotel, the Nordic Sea, is right across the road, it has the famous Ice Bar which is worth a visit.

Check out 12pm, good breakfast, comfy beds, clean bathroom with good shower pressure, good ironing facilities in room, prompt room service, cool bar.

If/when I go back to Stockholm I will still choose to stay in the Nordic Light each time.

My partner and I just got back from a trip to Stockholm (january 2005) and stayed at the Nortic Light hotel. We made this choice after surfing their website and considering reviews we read on this site. Even after all this we were disappointed! We were looking for a hotel that would reflect the Stockholm that we had heard furniture...cutting edge design..we felt the Nortic Light as well as the city lacked in all of these aspects! We live in Los Angeles and could find a much better representation of these features here at home.(We did however have wonderful experiences in London and Paris) The Nordic Light might impress some but in my humble opinion it has seen better days! I was hoping it would be like a "W" hotel experience where you actually have a theme of modern Zen hipness (or whatever the theme may be) from the time you enter the lobby to the lifts to the hallways and throughout your room. At The Nordic Light I had none of these experiences.
Upon entering the lobby I was impressed with its cool sleek design and had high hopes of what would follow. The experience would end there! The lift was nothing to speak of but that was o.k. It wasn't till we got to the flourescent lit hallways with stained old faded carpet that I knew this was not the place for us. The room was so small we could hardly get around the bed even though we were "upgraded" at the front desk to a "larger" room. The amazing bed we had seen in pictures actually was white press particle board (simular to an Ikea bed) which had been slapped together and was to be illuminated by spot lights which hung from the ceiling. There was a small sitting area with a gray sofa, a tiny black wood desk and a round coffee table. Everything including the grout in the bathroom tile looked like it needed a good cleaning. The shower stall was a joke. I couldn't even extend my arms it was so small. This hotel hasn't a soul. Once you pass the lobby, you could be in any tourist grade hotel. So, if style and chicness is your desire don't be fooled by the Nordic Light, its all facade!!!

great breakfast!

from Zana711
Nordic Light Hotel is just around the corner from the Arlanda Express exit in the City. Rooms are a lot more spacious than the Radisson SAS Strand and the Sheraton (both 5 star hotels). Breakfast buffet is great - the hotel even bakes its own bread. There's also free broadband internet connection in the room making this an almost perfect business hotel. The restaurant has a great wine list but the food menu can do with a bigger choice. (though by no means bad compared to other Stockholm hotels.)

Fab hotel in fab location

from TTK
The Hotel is in a great location near the Arlanda Express. It is also easy walking distance to all the main sites. We stayed over the New Year and thought that the hotel offered excellent value for money and was very clean and comfortable. We loved the minimalistic decor in the rooms and thought that the breakfast was fab. We found the staff to be very helpful. The only downside was the service in the bar was rather slow and not having items like tea and shampoo always replinished in our room. However would thoroughly recommend staying at this hotel.

One of the most beautiful hotels that we have ever stayed in. The staff were amazing, good looking and friendly. We shall return!!

Very Posh!!!

Great hotel and an awesome bargain. The Icebar is so fun and the girls who work there are beautiful. Excellent breakfast buffett included. The hotel is right in the middle of town where you'd want to be. Nice bars and restaurants, right near Central Station. Would definately come back here again!

Excellent Hotel

from SwissTraveler40
We went there November 20 - 21 2004

Great Hotel. Excellent location next to the railway station (watch for the Mercedes sign on the top of the building). Excellent stuff very friendly! Room was clean and nice.
The only week point was the breakfast buffet. It is not bad, but the Birgler Jarl has a bigger varity.
Even on of the breads was still little frozen inside!!!!

The Ice-Bar at the Nordic Sea is nice but in my opinion it is not a must.

Overall I'll stay again in this Hotel

Top Local Tips for Stockholm

Bus v Arlanda Express If you can, use the bus into Stockholm - it is far cheaper than the Arlanda Express train and stops just up the road from this hotel (and at various other stops obviously). Arlanda Express is great, but can be pricey if you don't get the 'summer deal'.

Great terrace both for dining and wining "Pontus by the sea" is a pleasant terrace restaurant/bar with wonderful views

Berns Berns bar/restaurant is fantastic - huge building with antique features.. serves beautiful asian food.
