Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Stockholm Slussen Hotel
A good Hilton property located near the Old City
from Flying_LawyerThe property is well ocated for walking and brousing, but is some distance away from the commercial and shopping centers of the city. The hotel is also a fair distance from the ferry terminals (we arrived on Silja Line from Helsinki) and the cost of a cab ride will come as a bit of a shock.
Our room was very clean, well-maintained each day of our stay, and offered all of the essential elements for a comfortable stay. The only exception was the shower/bathtub, which hada ledge so wide we found ourselves crawling over it in order to get into the shower. Not an "ADA" compliant hotel, that's for sure!
Okiedokie!!
from TopsmanSome things you would want to know about the Hotel and Stiockholm -
1. The hotel is a relatively nice property situated 5 minutes from Gamla Stan (Old Town)
2. When we checked into the hotel the receptionist on the desk couldnt speak as good English as we would have liked her to (and I guess she was relatively new as well) gave us stuffy non interconnecting rooms inspite of specifically asking for interconnecting rooms (we have 2 elder girls and a 11 month old baby). After haggling and speaking to 2 officials, we got the needful done and got rooms facing the old city. This is the view you want and no other. The view from the room was worth every penny we spent on this hotel.
3. Stockholm is very expensive. You are easily looking at spending over US$ 80-100 for a meal for 4 at McDonalds or a BUrger King -imagine how expensive a nice restaurant is!
4. Before you arrive at Stockholm or any Scandanavian country, get your alcohol as this is very expensive here. And besides, you dont get alcohol/liquor at shops or convenience stores as you would get in the states or in London. YOu only get alcohol in a government owned store called System Bologet. One of the nearest one is located in Gamla Stan.
5. Dont forget to take your children to Grona Lund. Its the only amusement park in Stockholm and is a wonderful experience for the kids. Also Skansen is amazing!
5. Lastly if you are planning to go to Oslo from here, remember that Oslo is 25-30% more expensive than Stockholm.
Have a good holiday. Cheers!
Very good!
from FlyingFinnThe location is convinient, especially for tourists (the old town is in front of the hotel) and perhaps for business men, who have their business in the southern part of the town (but it is not far form the centre, either).
The reasons why I did not give 5 points are: the washing basin was a bit broken/unfinished after the renovation; there is no space for your clothes in the closets, so if you are planning to stay long, it will get quite complicated (but the desing of the closets is interesting...), and the bathroom was not well cleaned, and one could clearly smell urine. However, the hotel reacted correctly, when they were told about the cleaning problem.
I liked the place and can easily recommend it.
t stay-Avoid Queen Rooms-Claustophobic!
from jollyjetlaggersThe marble bath is beautiful to look at but attempting to avoid doing the split for one leg to leap over the marble (there are no stairs and you need long legs to get over to get inside the bath or take a shower which did not work) WAS NOT A WELCOMED CHALLENGE. We found a note congratulating us on our anniversary which was appreciated but we were left with one bathrobe. When we phoned to request another bathrobe, it took about 40 minutes for a staff member to bring it to our room so service is not great. The duvet covers are terribly divided into two separate covers which kept sliding off us as we attempted to sleep. The view did not help matters because we had a view of other locals' windows visible enough to see what we were up to so there is no privacy if you want to open the window and the blinds.
We did express our dissappointment to the hotel manager when he asked us as we checked out if we enjoyed the room and told him it was too small for a Queen room and very claustophobic. He acknoweledged that the Queen room is very small and explained that the rooms were designed that way because Stockholm is surrounded by so much water that there is little room for building decent sized hotel rooms! We will believe that the day Paris Hilton stays in a Queen room for a couple of nights but believe she would use the room as storage or a kennel room for her pooch - even the pooch wouldn't want to stay! We stayed for 4 nights too long there and will never stay there again! AVOID IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A ROMANTIC STAY WITH YOUR SPOUSE OR PARTNER OR WANT TO GET A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP WITHOUT BANGING AGAINST FURNITURE THAT'S IN THE WAY THE MOMENT YOU OPEN THE DOOR!
Fabulous hotel
from ValBramhallMy favorite hotel in Stockholm
from LTobiasThe next day I had to change my room because of a problem with the shower. The staffs were very helpful and gave me a room on the 5th floor. This room was really better and from the balcony I had a great view to Gamla Stan and Riddarholmen. The bathroom was very beautiful with big mirrors. In the morning you get a very good breakfast with everything you need.
Near the hotel is a underground station, but it’s not far to Gamla Stan.
Terrible room - great hotel
from gssrocksFabulous!!!
from friedrich dawgRoom was a good size. The wood and mirrors and a Nordic look were used cleverly to give a roomier feel. The drawers and closets were tucked away in the built-ins and were spacious. Marble bath was ample.
Snacks and drinks in the clubroom were delicious and varied throughout the evening with a friendly attendant restocking constantly. Breakfast in the clubroom also was very good. The comfort, food and unlimited drinks in the clubroom makes upgrading to an executive suite worthwhile.
All the staff, from the front desk personnel to the maids to the restaurant staff were all professiona, helpful and friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good and comparable in price to other restaurants in town. We did not use the gym but it seemed to have a variety of machines.
The location is excellent--short walk to Gamla Stan, Norrmalm, and in the opposite direction, the trendy Sodermalm. If you do not enjoy strolling the clean, scenic streets, the subway stop to all points in the city is a block away.
A great hotel in a wonderful city.
Good hotel but they charge for the extras
from notebeneVery nice hotel if a bit out of the way
from KenbobThe location of this hotel is good provided you like to walk. It's perfect for visiting the Old Town as it's just steps away but to visit any of the other parts to the city, you must walk through the Old Town to get there. Also the hotel is istuated on a slight hill which makes it easy when you leave but more difficult when returning after a day of sightseeing.
The hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating.
Top Local Tips for Stockholm
Whiskey bar in Gamla Stan We were there for a birthday celebration and stopped in this bar for a nightcap - the Bollinger was superb. The dry roated peanuts an interesting touch! Loved the oak furniture, laidback, modern atmospehere, friendly Swedish-Geordie gar owner and just the total cool, chic, chilled-outness of it all.
Lovely restaurant in Old Town! I highly recommend Trattoria Romana in the Old Town. A wonderful Italian restaurant with great food and very good service. You find businessmen, families, friends and romantic couples there. You must book a table, more info at www.trattoriaromana.se
Boat Trip I would recommend going on a boat trip, we had one as part of the wedding and it gives you a great and different view of Stockholm
