Some of the singles are a bit on the small side, but most are just fine for .. well, a single person. The doubles, however, are quite spacious and some are set up with sofa and living room space (think studio rather than suite). Quite nice if you're going to be in town for an extended stay. Some rooms have their own balconies, a nice touch for after a long day in the office.
All are decorated in warm, traditional colours and finishes. Dark hardwood floors form the base with fuzzy area rugs giving your feet someplace to rest.
The service here is friendly beyond belief. Efficient and always willing to go the extra mile -- bus itineraries, help getting tickets for just about anything, information about the area (including into Denmark), they are always willing to help with a smile.
Wireless internet is available for a modest SEK 20 per day.
Breakfast is typically Swedish and well-served -- not too much in the way of international fare, but you will eat well. If you're like me and don't care for herring in the morning, there's plenty of bread and cereal to fill up on. My only wish is that there were an English paper at breakfast (all I ever seem to find are the Swedish rags).
The primary clientele seems to be business travellers, but I've stayed over the weekend and noticed no difference in the high standard of service.
It's right in the center, just a short walk from the train/bus/ferry station.
There may be more modern hotels in Helsingborg, and with even more amenities. But the most important thing for me when travelling is to have someplace where I feel at home, which never happens in MerryRot kind of place. In those places you can often forget what city you're in. Whenever I stay in a new hotel, I can't help but compare it to my home-away-from-home: The Hotel Viking. And it's a rare find that beats it.
