Historical Traveller Reviews of Sauce Hotel
Just a one night stay, but highly recommended!
from schmittenhoeThe location is ideal, right in the old town and just a couple of minutes walk from the Plaza del Pilar. The hotel frontage is on Espoz y Mina, a small street, so there was little traffic by day or night and therefore very quiet. There are nice shops and restaurants on the main street to the side of the hotel.
As we're a family of four and the largest room available was a triple room (there is a quad room but it was already booked) we had a double bed with two basic beds for the children, so fine for a short stay but if you wanted a longer stay the quad room would probably be preferable and give you some extra room. Our room was clean and modern, not luxurious but then at the excellent rate we paid you wouldn't expect that. The bathroom was large (a bath with shower, two sinks, w/c and bidet). TV reception was a little fuzzy on some channels, but certainly watchable, and the kids only watched a few minutes while we got ready to go out. There's a room downstairs with a large flatscreen TV though so if watching TV on holiday is your thing (not ours!) then you're OK. It also has a PC with Internet access.
Breakfast was good value and had us stocked up ready for our day of sightseeing. That said, we'd chatted to someone from the UK now living and teaching in Zarogoza who'd recommended an all you can eat buffet called Las Palomas, which is just around the corner from the hotel, so we had lunch there and can thoroughly recommend it, obviously a local favourite judging by all the Spanish eating there! Don't be put off by the small cafe area in the front (many Spanish still smoke) as there's a full non-smoking restaurant behind and an upstairs as well. Brilliant value too.
We'd certainly stay at Hotel Sauce again.
a nice surprise in the heart of zaragoza
from matteo_pietropoliBeware the nearby restaurants!
from AGuideThe rooms were clean and tidy, we stayed for two days on the third floor and after a couple of days in Barcelona three more days on the forth floor. Both rooms faced the street but we had very little trouble with noise. The only noise that did bother me was the sound of the lift bell going off every now and again, the first couple of nights it kept waking me up.....I suppose I got used to it by the end...or was I just too tired?
The staff were great despite our very basic spanish and saved us lots of hard work by keeping one of our rucksacks at the hotel while we went off to Barca.
As for the restaurants....too many to chose from within a 5 min walk...but beware the La Palomas just down the street and its eat all you like menu. Its has to be the best value in the city and great for vegetarians and people who can't read spanish menus. You just help yourself..and then go back for more...and then go back for more...and then go back for more...
Oh..and the cider bar was good as well..try the Chorizo in cider tapas...
In the centre of Zaragoza
from aruboyThe initial greeting was warm and we were offered two rooms one on the fifth at the rear and one on the forth at the front. The lady at the desk thougt the fifth was better for us. It was explained the Spanish party long into the morning and the room on the fifth would be better for our needs. We slept well even with the window open.
The room was large by European standards, large window that opened . The furniture in our room was not classic hotel furniture as the bed had a large wooden headboard.
Breakfast was served in the coffee shop off the foyer. Very nice pastries , yogurts and endless Expresso coffee.
If you are considering going to Euro 2008 next year in Zaragoza I can recommend this hotel as it is less than 100 meters from the main city square.
The Hotel also helped cover our parking costs.
Great Hotel
from lfaithlessfanaticIf you have a car, make sure it is a small car as all of the car parks are underground and extremely tight, my son's car (Saab 93) practically became wedged in the car park. However the hotel staff managed to find him an alternative car park, which could accommodate a larger car,
The Hotel is great, it is very well located for all the sights. The Staff are wonderful, very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very clean, spacious with comfortable, large beds. The
breakfast is very good with a choice of sweet and savoury, the Spanish omelette is very tasty and so are the cakes. We believe the hotel is a 2 star, but it feels more like a 3 star.
We would definitely return to this hotel in the future and would recommend it to our family and friends.
Check out the hot chocolate at the Grand Cafe and The Irish Bar Flanagans, which is full of spanish of all ages enjoying themselves until the early hours....Great music and ambience.
Great value and location

from lauraricci23Strange name but a great little hotel
from MIradorVicBooking was easy, and the reception staff, in particular the ever so helpful Isabel, answered all our questions in advance and promised us a lovely room - which we got. The room was very spacious for such a reasonably priced hotel. As well as the comfy double bed, there was a small seating area and not only was there a decent sized wardrobe, it had plenty of coat hangers in as well!
The room came with the all amenities I would expect of a much more expensive hotel - CNN on the TV, hairdryer and toiletries in the bathroom, shutters on the windows that opened at the touch of a button. We didn't have breakfast, but there was a small bar / cafe adjoining the hotel where it was served and it looked like a decent continental breakfast with plenty of pastries, fruits and meats. You could also access the internet from downstairs in the hotel.
We hadn't been to Zaragoza before so didn't know how much hotels cost in relation to other areas of Spain. But at €58 per night it was really good value. We only paid less in San Sebastian and that was for a small room in a hostal.
As far as location goes, whilst not on Plaza del Pilar itself, it was just a few steps around the corner and there were plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, and lots of shops to stroll past.
Great location and good hotel
from JuRoTop Local Tips for Zaragoza
Get a taxi The train station is quite a distance from the old town. Definitely too far to walk with a heavy bag in hot weather. The bus station is next door to the train station so the same applies if you arrive by bus.
A very beautiful city An insolit destination for the Italian tourists but a very beautiful surprise for us. A city reach of history and beautiful architectures.
Irish Bar Flanagans The best place for a great evening out and fabulous atmosphere. It is not far from the Basillica Square. The music is the best and the Guiness is pretty good too. Oh yes and so are the bar staff. The age range in the bar was from 20's to 60's which was refreshing.
