We just love the Hotel

We have been to the Pez Espada every year from 1986 to 2007 and we have already booked our holiday at the same Hotel for 2008. We just love the Hotel, the rooms are good, the hotel location is perfect, the food is super. We just miss not being there now and we have to wait a long time until September arrives, and in the meantime we just look forward to the event in September.

I highly recommend this hotel for its superb location and good value. It has a very comfortable room and beautiful presented morning buffet.

Me and my partner stayed here for 2 weeks in august,the rooms are clean and spacious, the food fantastic with so much choice, and the staff helpful and polite. The only downside we came across was the pool area, the beds were left out overnight so subsquently people left towels and lilos on them,(like for a week) so you had to be up VERY early to get a bed, and some days there were no towels provided for the pool, but aside from that great place would go back tomorrow (if only).

Very good hotel

We have been to this hotel 4 times over the last 12 months and it has been consistently good. There are a lot of older people in this hotel, however, it would suit anyone. We are aged 32 and 38 and we enjoy it.
It is in an excellent location between Torremolinos and Benalmadena, and is set on the beachfront. There is a large grassy area for sunbathing and plenty of sunbeds. The only problem is that there are always lots of flies.
The rooms are quite old fashioned, however, they are always clean which is the main thing for us.
There are 2 bars - one main bar where there is nightly entertainment and one smaller bar where smoking is allowed. the smaller bar "Frankie's Bar" also has a terrace. The staff in both bars are always friendly and the service is quick.
The restaurant area is quite large and nicely laid out - the food is average. Again the staff are always friendly and the service is quick. However, we tend to eat out anyway as there are plently of restaurants and bars near to the hotel, and it is within walking distance of the Marina.
We would recommend this hotel.

pros...good location, right opposite the beach, food excellent, plenty of it, lots of variety, evening entertainment good too, varied selection of acts, clean luxury entrance, quiet too, no hills!!
cons...dated, 1950s, needs a facelift, decor etc, beds were a bit, well worn-out, and the people weren`t very chatty, friendly, for the elderly really, but OK.

Our party consisted of me at 41 my hubby at 48 our daughter at 17,my Mum at 66 and finally my grandad at the ripe old age of....92 !!!! (It was his dream to come back to this area)
We all had a fantastic time and the hotel could not be faulted at all. The rooms are clean and adequately equiped,the food is outstanding,staff are friendly,views from balcony amazing,entertainment was fun,position of hotel spot on.....right on the beach.All in all ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.
I agree with some of the other reviews that a lot of the guests are quite elderly but that doesnt mean they dont know how to party !!! (And as I said my Grandad is 92) A holiday is what you make it and I found every single person I met and talked to (and I talk a lot) wonderful company.

Good value for money

Have just returned from a 2 week holiday. Have stayed at other Spanish hotels which have been 4/5* and this compares well. It is a little bit dated, but somehow that makes it a different experience. The rooms were also a little dated and a bit tired but were large, had comfy beds, a great sea view and had everything you need, except a kettle for us English, but had taken my own so no problem making tea. The grounds were pleasant and felt spacious even when all sun beds taken. Visited adjacent hotels and their grounds seemed cramped when busy. The restaurant was the best run one I have experienced in Spain. All buffet food, excellent choices every day, never a problem to get a table. If I was being picky I would have liked to see more fresh fruit at breakfast. The staff were OK, ranging from very pleasant to indifferent. The hotel is in a great spot, away from the moiling Torremolinos / Benelmadena mobs but right on the beach and close to many good restaurants and bars. However, if you stay here you will probably not want to eat out as the food is good.
All in all this is not the swankiest hotel but it has everything you need and what it has is good. I went on a dinner/breakfast package holiday and can say without hesitation I have paid twice as much in Spain and not got as good a deal!

Never a 4 star Hotel

The Hotel was i real let down and no where near the standard we expected from the ratings, The staff were good , but the food standard poor- so much so we did not eat in the Hotel for the last 3 nights of our stay in spite of being on half board. Food choice and quality was not up to 4 star standards and was often cold and taseless.The soup on 3 consecutive nights was the same in spite of being called 3 different soups. A huge let down and we would not think of going back there

the majority of the hotel guests is older than 60.
this hotel is accordingly arranged. The staff speaks english and german. The breakfast it's comprehensive but has a british touch.
The sauna ( one small cabine and two showers) cost
10,- Euro extra per session ( it's in german hotels inclusive!). The 4 pools are okay.
There ' re two PC' s with Internet-Connection. Unfortunately it's this service ( compared to the other Cyber-Cafe's in the hotel surrounding area) quite expensive.
Well , I would come again never the less.

Great Location - right on the beach

I went on an unnamed late deal so I had no idea where I would be staying and I have no complaints
One of the oldest hotels on the Costa del Sol so it looks a bit dated, despite being refurbished and part of the MedPlaya chain. The location is superb worth paying for a sea and pool view. The staff are very friendly and helpful and speak good English. The food is buffet style with plenty of choice even for vegetarians and no queuing as each part had a few dishes. The flamenco was brilliant and the entertainment was more than adequate. Most of the clientele were long stay elderly people however this was mid December. There are plenty of chiringuitas (beach bars) and shops on the doorstep, many of them closed when we were there so it was quieter than I expected. It is about a 10-15 minute walk along a flat promenade to Carihuela with its tapas bars and shops and a little further to the larger resort of Benalmadena and its modern marina and Sea Life.

We stayed at this hotel in April 2005. Unfortunately we were given a room at the back of the hotel which only have very, very tiny balconies. However, we have booked a fortnight with friends for 2006 and have paid a supplement for rooms overlooking the pool and gardens.
The hotel was very clean but we felt that the rooms were a bit dated in furniture and decor. The bathroom was big and again cleaned every day. The dining room staff were very efficient and the food good quality.
Reception is impressive, a large expanse of glass and marble and the reception staff were always pleasant and helpful.
The location to the beach is fantastic, a hop, skip and a jump away! The marina is very attractive (breathtaking in the evening)and an easy stroll from the hotel.
We visited Mijas & Puerto Banus which are well worth a visit and Fuengirola (which was like Blackpool in Spain).
We had a very pleasant holiday and indeed have booked to return, however the one criticism we would have is that the decor and furnishings of the bedroom are dated.

me and my partner stayed here from 6th august for 2 weeks, the rooms were clean and spacious, the hotel reception was fabulous ( and so cool ) the staff helpful and polite and the food was excellent. the first day there we hired the fridge! 30 euros for an empty fridge or 33 euros for a fridge filled with water,beer,and pop. we did'nt have to pay for the beds around the pool, which was great however the beds were kept out all night so some of the guests would leave their towels out all night!!! and if you had a lie in you were stuggling to find a pool bed. but pool beds aside it is a fantastic hotel and so near to the beach and harbour. we were spoilt for choice with the evening meal and ate everything we had it was lovely..(not good for the wasitline though) the bar outside (frankies) was a place to go and chill after a hard day at the beach!!. all in all fabulous,would go back tomorrow.
Top Local Tips for Torremolinos
Sunny We went in february and the temperature was 24 degrees + every day except one, where it was 15! it was brilliant weather!
Easy to get around Walk into Torremolinos at night a nice choice of bars and very reasonable for a couple of drinks or more, Benalmadena tends to get busy with nightclubbers who look worse for wear after a night out, mess on streets etc! Market day is OK but get a taxi 6 Euros, or try the cable car up the hill/mountain to get panoramic view, get bus/taxi to the Tivoli World and buy your ticket in side office, worth a go.
Book holiday yourself Malaga airport is so well served by both half hour trains and cheap taxis, then its best to go to Torremolinos by your own steam.
