Top Local Tips for Puerto de la Cruz

Seniors & Disabilities Do go, but bear in mind what I have said. Do send an e-mail if you want further info. Do not be daunted and have back-up plans. If you are from the UK go with Saga as they have good reps onsite and help is always on hand. Staff/reception are good but they have a lot of people to cater to. Restaurant managers/staff are also very helpful and will seat you and bring what you need if you speak to them first so you can take a look at what you want and then they will bring it to you. Other guests can be very helpful too, don't be too proud to ask for help it gets you a long way. You must explore the gardens, but with care and slowly. Don't teeter on a boulder, camera poised and not expect to fall off if you can't do that at home! Do a small tour of the area just outside the hotel, that will give you an idea of the terrain of Puerto in general. If you are able to walk on the flat for 10 minutes you can make it to Hotel Botanico and Botanical Gardens and some of La Paz.

Naval Museum Do make a point of finding this lovely place which is close to both central squared in Puerto. Is is located above a shop selling all types of Canarian lacework. The downstairs is overflowing with table cloths and other similar souvenirs. The ladies who run it will be quite friendly if you walk in with a big smile and greet them. They can seem rather offhand and sometimes unfriendly but keep your smile and tell them how lovely their shop is (which it is) and ask to see the museum. It cost little more than one euro and if you spend less than an hour in there then you missed something! It belonged to a sea captain and his family (all the history is there) and now is full of an eclectic selection of historical bits and pieces, picture and just fascinating oddments. Plus it is in one of the oldest (sadly neglected) houses and you can see through the floor boards to the shop below - somewhat alarming. Anyway go there and be delighted.
