Top Local Tips for Puerto de la Cruz

Elizabeth 58 Weather during the early months of the year seemed better suited to older people who like walking around and not just sitting sunbathing.

Forget the beach get to the Lago Martianez As the black sand beaches in Puerto typically have huge waves and are not really suited for swimming they built the Lago Martianez complex. It's only 3.50 Euros entry and there are lots of open air sea water pools (some for young children) as well as places to eat, toilets and changing facilities etc. Great value and fun but get there early (around 11am) and get a good spot on the sun loungers.

Parking Nightmare! If you hire a car to travel round the island, book a hotel that is slightly outside the centre and has a car park as parking is impossible in Puerto de la Cruz, then just take a taxi into the centre for a few euros. Saves lots of hassle!
