Historical Traveller Reviews of Apartments Casablanca Hotel

Fantastic accommodation and complex

from batgirl1
We have just returned from a fortnight's stay at the Casablanca and what a lovely time we have had. The apartment was quite simply the best we have ever stayed in. The complex was spotlessly clean, the apartment beautifully furnished and equipped, the grounds were lovely and the staff were, without exception, friendly, polite and helpful. The only downside to our stay was that there is some remdial work going on at present, which meant that the poolside bar was not available . However, alternative bar arrangements had been made and it didn't bother us at all.
We were a little worried because some of your reviews spoke about the steps down to the town, but I can only say that for us they were an inconvenience rather than a problem and if you did not feel like coming back up them, you could walk up the road - slightly longer but easier- or get one of the many cheap taxis to bring you back. The resort is lovely, with loads of shops, bars and restaurants. There were also plenty of local bars near the complex which didn't entail a walk into the town centre.
Many of the holidaymakers at the Casablanca go back year after year and I can see why, we would definitely go back, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, but the resort itself is not really suitable for young people - if you like the lifestyle at Playa de las Americas, you probably won't like it in Porto de la Cruz. However, if you want a lovely relaxing holiday in a friendly resort, with all the comforts of home, head for here - it's fantastic.

As good as ever

from 531_on_Tour
We have stayed before and have always been looked after. On this occasion we had a penthouse apartment with a huge balcony, overlooking the pool. It was very clean, stylish and very well equipped. It was tremendous; we had good sun all day and somewhere pleasant to sit at any time. The Casablanca staff are their greatest asset; they are friendly and most accommodating. The area is pleasant and La Paz has good dining. Don't miss the little bakery on the top road, run by 2 German sisters, cake and bread to die for!

Quality Assured

We booked this resort through RCI as it had been awarded the 'Gold Crown' recognition in previous years. Anyone who uses/has used RCI will know what this recognition means.

The standard of the apartment was first class, our 1 bed was extremely spacious and as others have wrote, the extensive kitchen appliances and crockery/cutlery was what you would expect from hiring a villa. The staff were in the process of changing all of the crockery for brand new in all apartments as we left.

Outside of the apartment, the pool and bar/terrace area was very good, and gave us a relaxing atmosphere, the pool was also nice and warm (well, for an outdoor pool it was !!). We didn't have any problems finding sunbeds either, and we went in Easter.

The menu of the snack bar was ok but not a deal of choice, especially for the 'picky' eaters but what we had was reasonably tasty.

For those bowlers that are looking to book purely because of the advertised bowling green, think carefully. The standard is poor but adequate for a 'mess about or roll-up'.

Restaurants, there is an English style chippy virtually just up opposite the reception door and a small supermarket 20-30 yards up the hill from reception. The main bulk of restaurants are down in the resort although there are three up the hill to the right of reception. We tried one of them and the meal was good.

For those worried about the steps, there is a path that runs down the hill to the left of the reception doors which is slightly better on the calf muscles, but only just. Best advice is to walk down but get a taxi back.

The main square in Puerto de la Cruz is excellent with restaurants right around it. We particularly enjoyed the bar in the centre under the canopies where you could have a few drinks and just sit and watch the world go by.

The 'Grande ........' Cake and Coffee shop is DEFINATELY worth a look for the cake lovers (sorry couldn't remember its full name). It is on the pedestrianised promenade and with all the huge gateaux and cakes on show, you will definately not miss it. €2.00 per slice and they are generous slices yum yum.

As others have already written, the weather in the north is not as good as down in Playa de las Americas/Los Cristianos area, but we still had three clear very warm days. If you have a hire car, you could always go to the south part of the island as it takes about 1hr/1hr and a half. PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND GET TO PLAYA/LOS CRISTIANOS VIA LOS GIGANTES ROUTE UNLESS YOU LIKE FRIGHTENING TIGHT MOUNTAIN ROADS - GO BACK VIA AUTOPISTAS TF-5 / TF-2 / TF-1.

Hope this has been useful to you all and happy holidays

Fantastic Apartment in gorgeous resort. Recommended!!!

Well what can I say about this hotel/apartment block? We have just come back from a week break at the Apartments Casablanca & I must say it was one of the best apartments we have ever stayed in. Our one bedroom apartment was on the fifth floor overlooking the whole of Puerto De La Cruz. It was a fantastic view. The apartment was well furnished and the cleaning service was good. The balcony was massive with a BBQ area and a sun loungge & seating area. The kitchen was above standard with lots of appliances and all the rooms were spacious & well presented.

The reception service was very good too, the staff were friendly and helpful - happily booking seats at an out of town restaurant for us and recommending other places we might like to eat at.

I would like to mention the steps up from the main resort to our apartment block. They are steep and I feel the less able at walking amongst us might find them hard going. As we read about them on here before we booked we were prepared and found after a day or so of going up and down them they did not bother us.

I must also mention that Puerto De La Cruz in the north of Tenerife is nothing like the south. It is lush, green, very pretty and happily not cheesy or tacky. There are lots of fantastic restaurants (including 3 vegetarian restaurants). I would recommend a trip to the capital of Santa Cruz and a place called La Orotava as it has to be one of the most stunning Spanish towns I have ever visited (even nicer than Altea near Benidorm).

Fantastic Location

We stayed at this complex for 2 weeks 02/01/05. The standard of accommodation was excellent. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard and everything needed was in the apartment. We were extremely lucky that we had good weather for the whole 2 weeks. It was cooler in the evenings but you could get away with a cardigan.
The steps down to puerto de la cruz were steep but it is a good form of excersise (there is a bar half way up, definately worth recharging your batteries, very friendly staff). We called this "murder mile".
The restaurants and bars in puerto de la cruz were fantastic and we especially enjoyed the processions leading up to Reyes.
We visited the Loro parque this was really enjoyable. Our two sons went to the clubs underground, they had a fantastic time.
Thanks to Richard the entertainment guy - he kept us all amused.

Fantastic Hotel

from Speirsro
Very impressed as soon as we got to the hotel. The reception was immaculate, and the staff were so friendly.
The rooms were spotless, and the staff cleaned up after us every day - can't say better than that!
The food was brilliant in the hotel, although it was mainly breakfast we had as the restaurants on the front were superb.
This was my first visit to tenerife, and i do not have a bad word to say about it.

When you go to Puerto de la Cruz, you must try the restaurant on the front (near the one in the rocks - its all wooden and has the open plan kitchen) - get the mexican skewer - i still dream about it and I came back a year ago.

Fantastic holiday, 5 Star.

Recomended for an idependent holiday

from GeoffWales_UK
I'm the first to look for a reason to knock a place but these self catering apartments contain all that you would need for a holiday. We stayed in a 2 bed apartment and hanging / drawer space was excellent as was the kitchen and lounge - we could have convinced ourselves we were staying in a friends apartment!

The receptionists were exceptional and despite clearly working long hours were always helpful and pleasant. We found the location very convenient as the Apts were half up to the Botanical Gardens area or half down to Puerto where in the square of the centre of town are the restaurants and cafes. So,whichever,it's true to say yes there are the steps but if you're average fit whatever age it's no problem so look forward to returning home even fitter - It's only a matter of 6/7 minutes down and a bit more coming back.
For your daily needs from Casablana continue up the steps to the top (6/7 mins)where you will find a Spa supermarket so returning downward with your goodies is a pleasant stroll. At the top as you join the steps on your return from the Spa you can deviate seawards to enjoy some excellent panoramic views down onto the Martienez area of Puero and the other way towards Tacorante.

Although Puerto being on the North gets more like warm british summer weather we were unfortunate in having an off week weatherwise - although warm it was advisable to pack a waterproof coat and this was a wise move as it did chuck it down a few times and an inflatable would have been more useful!

As one of the other reviewers said Tenerife is cooler up in the north so it can sometimes be cloudy but the weather is predominantly quite warm and the vegitation is naturally green unlike the south.

Although we only stayed a week we had a most enjoyable time and would have no hesitation in returning for a winter break. We did hire a car for a few days and apart from the countless sites and places this opens up to visit the one thing that stood out in our minds speaking as a pedestrian and driver was the curtesy shown by other drivers and generally visually a pleasing place (without the litter and rubbish which is all to familiar at home)

As we we were out and about most of the time we only used the bar once and found it reasonable and as for the car parking it could be a bit of a problem but you could always use the car park under the Casablanca for 3 euros a day. Alternatively, just 5mins walk, plenty of parking spaces could be found on the main road up from the Casablanca

A wonderful experience. The facilities are first rate and the staff could not be friendlier. We particularly enjoyed walking every day. The views of Teide are spectacular. We have booked 3 weeks in Feb. 2006. Barbara and Ed, Two yanks from New Jersey.

My friend and I stayed here for one week over the Christmas period and we both were over the moon at the site.
First time for me in an apartment as I usually stay in a hotel but after this stay I would certainly go back again without hesitation.
Superb accommodation with everything one needs. Spotlessly clean and 100% equipped for every need.
The town is an easy walk down hill but be aware that you have to go back up the hill, (or steps) and it is hard work at first but it gets easier.
Highly recommended.
