Beautiful setting and a lovely hotel, I would definitely return. However, there were a few glitches... the staff weren't very helpful when we arrived as we had specified a twin room (I was travelling with another girl) and were given a room with only 1 small double bed and none of the lights in the room worked, even after we had been out for the day they hadn't put new bulbs in. There was a very long queue at reception with people complaining, but the hotel was full and it was a busy weekend. The room was very pretty but had no windows so was dark, I definitely recommend paying for a slightly higer rate room (we looked in on one they were cleaning - it looked gorgeous!)

A very grown up hotel

This hotel is very high quality with a relaxed atmosphere and impecable service. A haven from the city outside its door. Styled around a central courtyard in a French/ English Country House meets modern chic fashion, this is a very grown up hotel that deserves all the great reviews it recieves.
The pool area on the roof offers an wonderful view of the Seville rooftops, a side of the city you wouldn't normally see. All food is excellent, braskfast is fresh and varied, lunches are varied and roomservice and the restaurant are high quality.
We had a suite which was very well appointed, their attention to detail is exceptional.
Try not to have a ground floor room, all rooms face into the courtyard and as luch can be taken at tables in this area, you could feel a little "on show".
A great hotel to visit at all times of the year.

An amazing hotel

This is a wonderful hotel! It is beautiful, and serene. It has great food, nice rooms, very comfortable beds, a really nice rooftop pool, and great lounge and patio areas. The best part about this hotel was the wonderful and very helpful concierge who had wonderful restaurant recommendations, and helped us with any questions we had!! I would love to return to Sevilla one day just so I can stay here again!!

The perfect choice

We just returned from Seville and stayed at Las Casas del Rey de Baeza
based on reviews here and the Karen Brown Guides. We were not disappointed & would highly recommend it with a couple of caviots:

As opposed to the experience another reviewer on this board had, we had a mix up with our reservations (their original mistake but I did not catch it although I had months to do so) and they did everything in their power to make it right. They could have said "so sorry." We reserved 2 rooms but mistakenly had one of them listed as arriving the day before. It was incorrect but in-print right on my confirmation so they had a point. They had that room down as a "no show" but made sure that we had a room for the exact days of our intended stay and did not charge us extra.

It is a bit further out of the center but it allowed us a bit of a respite from the hustle bustle. The streets in Seville are quite a maze but most things are in walking distance (only 3 minute walk from Santa Cruz area). Everyone walks around with a map (I think even the locals get lost). It is around the corner (which means 6 turns in Seville language) from Casa de Palatos ......... a must visit......in fact it used to be part of the palace.

We went with friends who had a different room experience.Our room had a brand new bathroom. It was modern and great with great products. It was on the bottom floor, in the corner and although a bit dark, it was huge & quiet. The AC worked great and bedding was wonderful. Our friends had a 2nd floor room that the AC did not work as well and the bathroom needed work. I peeked into some other rooms and all were furnished in the same contemporary style but are different because it used to be a palace. All rooms will have their bathrooms remodeled soon but I would ask for your preference when reserving.

Staff & service is fabulous! I can't say enought good things about them! Great recommendations and advise. Their quaint restaurant is world class (chef & service) but is still quiet until the word gets out. The same kitchen supplies the wonderful breakfasts, all day tapas around the hotel & rooftop pool service.

Their courtyard and multi-room quaint lobby is a great place to relax & take siesta with pitchers of Sangria, tapas & friends.It was the only place in our trip to Spain where and we actually loved hanging out at the hotel. The pool was a great feature in the hot weather. The lobby rooms were quite relaxing and nicely furnished.

All in all, a unique and quaint experience in busy Seville.

A truly beautiful setting.Hotel was first class throughout; style, design, service, layout etc. Very friendly and helpful staff and the setting of this hotel is really quite special. Rooms were very tastefully decorated in minalimist way and were very quiet. Couldn't fault hotel in any way - and I have never said that about a hotel before! Don't go to Seville without a detailed City map and beware, it is very hard to find your way around by car. Take a cab, most places are within walking distance of hotel tho and airport is only 15 mins away.

We were pleasantly surprised by how nice Las Casas was -- tucked away in a great location, with a real Spanish flavor. The rooms and appointments were beautiful, including the roof area and pool. Our biggest complaint was that they had not turned on the airconditioning and the rooms were too hot. If we kept the windows open, the noise was too much for what we are used to. We were very surprised that in a four star (bordering on five) hotel, we would lie awake sweating. They had only one mobile A/C unit that had been taken. The good news was that they turned the air on the next night and we were much happier. Get a good map of Seville no matter where you stay!!

A perfect hotel

We stayed at this hotel in September 2003 and could not have had a more relaxing and pleasant stay. A couple of other reviews have commented that the rooms are dark, but this is because the house is a traditional moorish-style courtyard house which is hundreds of years old, and whose architecture is designed to keep the heat out. The bedrooms therefore have very thick walls, smallish windows and look out over the shady courtyards. We loved this as it was part of the Spanish atmosphere of the place.

We loved the plain and simple but excellent quality furnishings. The bed was enormous and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were the best I have ever had in a hotel (and served til 11am); the staff were professional and helpful and the rooftop pool is a real bonus.

I could not recommend this hotel highly enough.

Turned away at the door

Having been impressed by all the wonderful reviews for this hotel, and realizing that the accommodation was in high demand I made a reservation last September. I requested 2 rooms for April 2 and 3, 2005 and received an e-mail confirming our reservation.
When we showed up at the hotel after more than a hour of trying to access it by car through the maze of one way streets, we were told they had no rooms for us. A story about a burst pipe affecting the only rooms left in the hotel was patently absurd since at least one other couple checked in while we were standing there (we noticed their reservation was for a longer stay). The receptionist at one point said to us, "If only you had arrived earlier!" - this was at 3 p.m. - hardly a tardy hour to be checking in.
It became very clear that the hotel was overbooked for the weekend and that they felt no obligation to honour a reservation that had been confirmed more than six months previously.
The hotel did find alternative accommodation for us but made no attempt to otherwise make amends, financial or otherwise. So fellow travellers be warned - this may be a wonderful hotel but despite all your best efforts you may never actually get the chance to stay in it!

Relaxing and stylish

This hotel charmed us on arrival; a sunny courtyard and friendly staff, plus a very generously poured welcome drink to enjoy in the inner courtyard once we had unpacked. The room was basic but stylishly furnished, sadly no view but a huge bed, well-equipped bathroom and large tv and cd/dvd player. The breakfast was outstanding: the best freshly squeezed juices, and a wide selection of smoothies, fruit, cheeses, cold meats, tortilla, breads, pastries, and a cooked option, all of very high quality. The location is excellent and we would recommend the tapas bars near the Plaza de los Terceros. Quality would be the one word we think best describes this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Sevilla

Avoid Hot Summer- for better walking and exploring go in early spring - before June! Sun gets too hot. Hire a guide when touring Alcazr -Walk thru the University - in former tobacco factory. Tour the cathedral at mid day - it is always cooler inside! Visit Casa de Pilatos.

Opera in Seville If you are in Seville during opera season, do consider going -- the prices are reasonable (for opera, anyway), the acoustics great, and the repertoire fresh and interesting. (We say Fidelio in May 2007 -- it is set in Seville and so was especially apt).

Plaza Espana and Parque Maria Luisa If you have limited time, rent one of the city bicycles and explore the area by bike. Much faster than by foot and a relaxing way to see the area.
