Historical Traveller Reviews of Club del Sol Aparthotel Hotel

Excellent holiday, definately recommend!

from nikkig973
Myself, partner and 4 year old son have just returned from our hol at the club del sol apartments and would definately recommend it we had a fantastic time!

We booked a studio which, after reading some reviews were a bit nervous about, but there was no need to be as it was great. There were two single beds together then a sofa bed that was already made up on our arrival and was the size of a single bed. The kitchen area looked new and had everything you could need (although we didnt use it cos we ate out) The bathroom was spacious and clean, all in all a good sized room. We overlooked the outdoor stage area but this wasnt a problem as we didint go up to our room till gone 11 most nights so by the time we were ready to sleep everything had gone quiet (our 4 yr old went straight to sleep reagardless!)

There are two pools which are a good size and have plenty of sunbeds and there is a nice breeze which was lovely cos it was so hot!

The entertainment was ok. There was stuff going on in the day and theres a kids club which was good. The evening entertainment started with a mini disco which my son loved and then had bingo and a quiz followed by the reps doing something or outside entertainers (some nights were better than others!) Theres a games room, pool tables, table tennis, mini golf, tennis and football.

We booked self catering plus (free soft drinks and locally produced alcohol, plus ice cream and crisps for children) which was brilliant and saved us loads of money, and our son loved the unlimited ice cream and crisps!! You get a free dinner ticket for the restaurant but we didnt use ours as my other half is a bit fussy on buffet food! We did eat there at breakfast time as it was a good price (6 euro's) and plenty of variety. If you breakfast on arrival for so many days you can get it at a reduced price.

There are plenty of restaurants in Puerto Pollensa for everyones taste. I would definately recommend Little Italy which is right at the end of pine walk. But you do need to book if you want to sit outside and admire the beautiful view. The food is lovely and the service is top notch. For a tex mex retaurant i would recommend Nico's which is to the left of the square, they do the best steaks and the fajitas were gorgeous! We also ate at New Jules which is right behind the complex which was ok, the set menus are a good price for lunch or dinner.

We went to the waterpark in alcudia which wasnt the best. It cost 17 euros per adult and 8 euros for kids, plus you have to hire sunbeds or sit on concete! There are only 4 slides and these aren't anything major. Theres one pool with little slides for kids and a park, but i really wouldnt recommend it its probably better to look at the western one in magaluf if you dont mind the travelling.

We had a great holiday and will definately be going back to the club del sol apartments but for 2 weeks next time!

Nice...but....

Just got back from Club del Sol Pollenca. Overall a very clean hotel;
lovely gardens and good pools.Buffet breakfast and dinner were good value and the staff were helpful and friendly. Great place to bring your kids, but for us with teenagers it wasn't the best option.
Entertainment (?) at night was for the under 5s only, with a bit of a quiz and bingo thrown in. Nothing for teens to do except hang around the pool table. Nice town though. Neptune and Tango good restaurants...some great tapas bars on the outskirts too. Get a car and drive to Soller. We stayed in Palma too; well worth it. Good hotel but they need to get away from the "kindergarden" emphasis.

Fantastic!!!!

from allenslot
Just got back today (19th June 2007, one week stay) what can I say, it was fantastic, the place is spotless, the hotel staff are very friendly. We took our son (nearly 4) and it was perfect for him. anyone thinking of booking to go shouldn't think twice.

We stayed in a one bedroom apartment in block 6, it was on the quiter side of the complex as you are away from the evening entertainment. The apartment was spacious, well equiped and very clean, the maids visit 5 times a week and are very efficient and freindly.

There are 2 sides to the complex in reference to pools, the main pool is the busier one but very large and has a gradual slope to the depth, it also has a round toddlers pool, which is great, this is the side with the snack bar, which is cheap and simple, but is fine for a lunch time snack. The other side of the complex (behind block 5 & 6) also has a round toddler pool and a large pool, this side is a lot quieter but the pool is very deep, starts at 1 metre 40. and goes a lot deeper. Though I have to say with arm bands the kids were fine, my 3 year old son had no issues.

The mini market on site is expensive, but fine for the essentials, though I recomend the Eroski supermarket in Puerto Pollenca for main supples as it is A LOT CHEAPER. As you will see from other reviews there is a bus going into Puerto Pollenca every 15 minutes or so from just outside the hotel for 1.10 euros (no charge for young children) or you can walk it in about 30 minutes. Taxi's cost 6 euros and are easy to get.

There are loads of places to eat in Puerto Pollenca, you get a welcome meal voucher to eat at the hotel at any night during your stay, the hotel restaurant was ok, and had plenty of choice, the New Jules bar just to the side of the complex is great, well worth a try, and they do take out which is brilliant for a late night snack. The bar staff are brilliant, Danny and Tony are brilliant.

Now, for the evening entertainment, well, have to say found it a bit boring, lots of quizes and bingo every night, and although the reps try thier hardest, and they really do try, it does get a bit repetitive, but please don't let this put you off, it is early in the season and I am sure it will pick up as the season gets into full swing.

The Kids club is great, and the girls running it are FANTASTIC with the kids, how they remember all thier names I do not know, but they do, and it makes them feel special.

We will book again for next year, can't wait to go back

If you would like me to mail you some photos let me have your mail address as I can not upload mine as over 2 meg, but will reduce and mail to you if you like

Great as a base to explore the north of the island

from Kodey
I stayed here for two weeks in June 2005.

It was a nice place, clean and good size balconies. Two large pools. Entertainment in the evening if you didn't want to venture out of the complex. Sky news/BBC TV in rooms which was good for Wimbledon coverage.

It's good for families but as a couple we found it too full of children. We looked into hiring an apartment in PP but it was expensive so we booked in at Club del Sol through First choice because it was inexpensive self-catering accommodation with a pool and we wanted to explore the island and the beaches of the north as we hired a moped. We would come back after a day at the beach/exploring and use the pool once the majority of the children had left to get ready for their evening meal.

It's set well back from the main road (20 metres or so) between Puerto Pollensa and Alcudia (avoid Alcudia - it's just like Blackpool). There is a bus service into Pollensa (great wednesday market) and Puerto Pollensa and you can also catch the bus to go to Palma for the day very easily from here.

I initially booked a room with a seaview but in reality it's not worth the extra money as you get a view of the main road first - buses and traffic whizzing past - and if on the ground floor, the crazy golf course! I asked reception to change our room overlooking the smaller pool which we were happy with as it's away from the sometimes loud evening entertainment.

If I had a family who enjoyed evening entertainment being laid on for the kids I would stay here but I found it was too far from Puerto Pollensa to stroll into town for the evening. You would have to get a cab.

We had a moped so could go to Pollensa (the town inland) for an evening meal with ease. I preferred Pollensa to Puerto Pollensa - it felt more authentic.

It was a fun holiday but I did find the decent beaches overcrowded and the resort Puerto Pollensa a bit busy. We would get to the beach early and then explore the countryside up in the mountains in the afternoon returning to the beach later in the afternoon.

Club del Sol is a good budget holiday destination - good value accommodation when used as a base. Fun entertainment in the evenings for families.

We have just returned from a week in the Club Del Sol apartments (May 15-22) and had a great week in the sunshine at this lovely resort.
With our mind on the recent disappearnace of Madeleine in Portugal our thoughts were of our 3 year old daughter on holiday. So we were concerned to arrive to a ground floor apartment but quickly discovered that the complex was entirely safe and all the windows and patio doors had secure locks. The apartment itself was a really good standard and as travellers who are used to high quality accommodation, I can safely say that the apartment was 4 star and very comfortable.
The facilities were equally good, 2 large pools plus 2 kiddie pools are situated in different areas of the resort so although the hotel was 70% full, we never felt it was too busy. The downside was that the pools were on the cool side but this was to be expected early in the season. In talking to others, we were surprised to find the difference in prices that people paid for the same week. We were on the self catering plus option which was good value but you were sometimes limited in what you could drink.
The kids facilities are excellent and is what made this a good choice for us, the kids reps were very enthusiastic and had lots of activities planned day and night. Be prepared to pay extra for some of the parties organized but money well spent.
For evening meals, you do not need to eat at the resort (unless you like buffet style meals!). We really enjoyed New Jules which is literally a skip away and if you fancy something more up market there are 2 excellent restaurants in walking distance (one to the left the other to the right). We returned most nights to the evening entertainment which wasn't always up to par but a good laugh all the same.
The sandy beaches were 10-15 minutes walk away and really clean and well kept. Puerto Pollensa itself is definitely worth a trip, be sure to soak up some of the spanish feel in the old town square. For tapas there, you won't go wrong with a restaurant called Neptuno. Delicious!
All in all, a great resort, a great aparthotel and we would definitely recommend it.

Very nice facilities, a bit out of town

from robdav
My wife, 1 year old daughter and I have just returned from a lovely week in Majorca staying at the Club Del Sol. We had a 1 bed apartment which was quite large for this type of development and well equipped. We asked for a cot when checking in at 9pm and by the time we got to the apartment there was a maid delivering it already.

The grounds and pools are kept very nicely and all the staff were very helpful.

On the minus side the food was terrible, although we only experienced the buffet once as we were given a free dinner voucher. Maybe they were having an off day but the selection was poor and badly cooked. Not a problem though as you have your own kitchen and there are some great places to eat in Pollenca, Port de Pollenca and Alcudia which are all 10 minutes away or less by car. Talking of which I would recommend a car as the resort is a little way outside of town.

Although we booked independently this place is mainly a First Choice hotel and they are selling it very cheaply at the moment. This is attracting a certain kind of guest who clearly were enjoying themselves a lot but personally I could have done without the bingo, quiz and Robbie Williams impersonator type entertainment in the only bar open at the moment. This was very loud but the resort is big so I would recommend asking for a room away from the main bar, there is a block opposite the main reception which has it's own pool and should be peaceful.

The region is beautiful, don't just stay in the hotel or Port De Pollenca, Pollenca itself is a lovely town and Alcudia has some great restaurants.

In short, a very good value, high quality place which could improve the standard of it's food and guests!

Fantastic for families.

Great for Families

Spent a week in Club Sol September 1st-9th.
Lovely apartments, very helpful friendly staff. Apartments really well kept and so clean. Beach is only a short bus ride away, €1.10 very frequent, and no problems with taxi's at night set price of 6.50. Buffet Breakfast was lovely and plenty for all. We also did buffet dinner and again - fab. Restaurant staff are so helpful and friendly to children, we stayed with our 3yr old daughter who just loved it. Mini Disco perfect for the kids, and the entertainers did their best with them every night. Bar, hotel staff all so pleasant.
Puerto Pollensa is a lovely spot and woudl recommend to all and well done Club Sol.

Fantanstic

We have just arrived home to Edinburgh from Club del Sol. We spent a fantastic week there with our two children, age 4 and age 1, I just wish we had booked two weeks. The apartments were lovely. Very clean. We had a studio apartment in Bloque 4. It was small, but we were hardly ever in it, so it didn't matter to us. The pool was great. We spent most of our time in the main pool, with our apartment looked over. The entertainment was good for the kids. Even my 1 year old daughter was joining in. It was a very short taxi trip into town, which cost 6euros. Shops in town are fab, and there are plenty of restaurants, and cafes, which are all really child friendly. My whole experience was wonderful, and we hope to return next year for two weeks. A++++++

A great place to chill

from SJR2
We have just returned from a week at the Club del Sol, booked only 5 days before departure direct through First Choice's website, which was very efficient. We had 2 studio apartments, one for us and one for our teenage daughters, which were next door to each other so very convenient.

The night flights from Birmingham were fine, although arriving at 5.30 am and being asked to go to the welcome meeting at 10.30 was a tall order! The studios themselves are fairly basic, but are clean and as we didn't spend much time in them they served their purpose admirably. We did have a few ants but this was not a massive problem. The "beds", however, were very uncomfortable, rather like fold-up beds - do not book a studio if you are wanting a romantic holiday! That said, we also had a balcony looking over the entertainment area and pool, and could see the sea, which was lovely. From the rear of the apartment you could see out to Port de Pollensa, which was an attractive view. Do take an old store card or similar with you to keep the air con on all day!

The resort is compact and attractively maintained, ideal as the teenage daughters could go off with their new friends in the evenings without too much concern on our part that they would get lost or wander into the "wrong part of town" - not being able to get off site easily has advantages!

The main pool area was busy (be warned, you need to get there by 9am to secure loungers, and any unattended towels left before this time may be removed by a staff member!), though there is a quiet pool too. For the tinies there's an excellent, separate pool. The beach is actually only about 200m from the hotel but is not sandy in this part, so unsuitable for a day's sunbathing but a very pleasant place to wait for the bus!

We tended to eat out in the evenings, going in to Port de Pollensa or Alcudia on the bus (very convenient, 4.40 euros for all 4 of us) and returning by taxi later (also very cheap). There is a good range of restaurants in Port de Pollensa - our daughters enjoyed the DakotaTex Mex and we enjoyed the Capri restaurant, not the one on the main "street" but the small offshoot which sticks out into the sea, although the food was not outstanding the setting was stunning. In Alcudia. make sure you go to the Marina and eat at one of the restaurants there (we liked Diabolito), overlooking the amazing boats. A jug of sangria seems to cost about 12 euros wherever you go, you will get about 8 glasses from this so it's good value and and is very refreshing.

We tended only to eat lunch at the Club del Sol, the snack bar was again value for money and had a good choice, albeit slanted towards the seemingly exclusively British guests. The "self catering plus" option is worth taking as you will get a variety of drinks all day and evening, including wine and beer, as well as crisps and ice cream pots for the children, which saves you money but, just as importantly, saves you from having to carry much cash with you! We did have a meal in the restaurant on our last night (you also get a free meal included in the self-catering plus option and we saved ours until then) and were very impressed with the options and standard of the food.

The entertainment staff do a brilliant job. They are unfailingly cheerful and friendly and work very hard to give everyone a good time. It must be very difficult to cater for all tastes and although they are not "professional" standard they really do try to put on a good show. Whilst not really our "thing", the kids, especially the younger ones, loved it. The main First Choice reps were less cheery and not knowledgeable about things which we considered to be basic enquiries, eg. how much does breakfast cost? They did not really know too much about the excursions, either - we enquired about the catarmaran sailing trip but were told we should go to Alcudia and enquire about it with the actual guy there. As it turned out, this trip was out of action and perhaps the rep could have known this. Nonetheless, all the transfers etc went like clockwork - there were many of them so credit to the reps here for their hard work.

If we'd been staying longer than a week we'd definitely have hired a car. We heard that Pollensa itself, Deia and Valdemossar were all worth exploring.

We'd certainly come back to Majorca again (this was our first time) and would probably use Club del Sol as a base, maybe out of season in a few years - with the proviso that we'd want more comfortable beds!
