Stop Moaning Its A Nice Hotel With Lovely Staff

from Gumblejum
What a load of CODSWALLOP some people write.
We have been to GC loads of times and this time we went half board at the GCP. While I can agree that the building is getting a bit dated and the chrome is starting to wear off the taps, everything else about the place was really great. We met the nicest mother and son anyone could want to meet and they had stayed at the GCP at least half a dozen times.ALL of the staff were most helpful and friendly and couldnt do enough to make your holiday enjoyable. It was my wifes birthday while there and a most unexpected present was left in the room by the management,a nice cold bottle of bubbly and a nice letter wishing her a nice stay and a happy birthday.Food was so abundant and so well presented we only once went out for a meal.Rooms were cleaned every day and linen changed every other.
The bed clothes and towels were all arranged in various displays every day. Nice little touches like this stand out.Yes there is only three tiny lifts but it was funny when all the fatties tried to squeeze in and the warning buzzer sounded and they had to decide who was getting out cos it was too heavy.Good safety feature. Dont knock the stairs it helps you lose the weight you put on with all the wonderfull food. The choice of food was enormous. It was EAT, DRINK, SLEEP all the time FANTASTIC.Keep an eye out for the best barman on the island called BADARA . Keep an eye out in the restuarant for THE PENGUIN AND MR BEAN. Its nice to be taken to your table with courtesy by Maitre D NICKNAMED The Penguin He's a Great Guy.
HAVE A GREAT TIME WE DID and all the staff helped.

Worth Considering

from trollhunter
My partner and I (both the ripe old age of 30) have just returned from a weeks "chill out" break in Gran Canaria where we stayed at the Gran Canaria Princess. A little uncertain about what to expect following mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, but all in all if you have small/medium budget level, this hotel will probably meet what your after - expectation wise.

Only three lifts that at best can manage 6 people - mostly 4 and probably only 2 with large suitcases! When checking in or going for breakfast/dinner this proved a bit of a nightmare (as we were on the top floor) but with a deep breath and some patience you can cope with it (or get lots of exercise on the stairs!!)

Agreeing with several other reviews, the surrounding area is a bit 'tourist'. English/Irish bars, gift shops, crazy golf etc and would probably be very 18-30's during the peak summer months. We didn't really find anywhere traditional/quality to eat out - however, we were very lazy and stayed very local.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and there always seemed to be cleaners checking the toilets, communal areas, bins etc and maintenance men ensuring anything that needed looking at did do. The pool was checked daily and was very clean.

The entertainment in the hotel was mixed. Being a very German and more senior persons orientated package hotel you had the usual monotone singers, singing songs that have been sung in Spanish resorts since 1970!! But, to be fair there were 2/3 acts per night and quite a few acts were pretty good and entertaining. (Particularly the underwear fashion show and show girls! - maybe a bit too male orientated!)

Food was varied and generally pretty good. No complaints to mention really - if I was being overly picky I found some dishes too salty for my taste, but there was enough choice to have some thing else.

Overall a good break for both of us and no particular complaints.

s all the fuss about ?

I know it's a little late since September when I visited, but having read the last few reviews I felt compelled to post a review in it's defence! It was the third time that I've visited this hotel and have never found much room for complaint. Granted, there are other Princess group hotels which are of a higher standard, but for it's location, friendliness, location and facilities you cannot fault it. We found the food to be plentiful and lots of choice, yes there were queues, but only at popular times, if you have another drink at the bar and wait a while 30 minutes or so then go down to dinner you normally find all is ok. The rooms had all been refurbished an were lovely, other reviews state that they are too echoing, don't think I'd appreciate or like a carpet on the floor, think of the sand etc...There are always plenty of sunloungers, nothing is too much trouble for the staff... I feel that some people just go on holiday to complain about as much as they can, you've paid your money, go and relax and enjoy, the Princess is a great hotel and I would return without hesitation.

Rubbish 4 star -in another lifetime

from A TripAdvisor Member
Sorry but no way on earth is this a 4 star -3 at best , a real stinker. All members of my party were sick , I spoke to loads of people each day and many complained about feeling a little under the weather. Not vomitting but off color. The rooms are very old and basic , tiled floor so it is like an echo chamber . The beds were shagged out , torn linen. I hated it. Do yourself a favour go to masplomas instead. Playa D Ingles is like Blackpool horrid . This resort is on its way out Masplomas like another Island . Many quality hotels only a little bit more expensive >Food in hotel was shocking . In other words I hated it.

Under 60? Look elsewhere.

After reading the reviews on trip advisor, my partner and I were lookng forward to visiting the Gran Canaria Princess. Having returned from there yesterday, I have read them again and can't believe this is the same hotel.
True, the rooms were clean and there are anough sunbeds for everyone (at least in late feb anyway)but that's where the good things ended in our opinion. We found the food to be the worst we have ever experienced. We spent most of the holiday between the chemists and the toilets. By the middle of our week, we decided to stop eating there altogether: we were starting to feel ill as soon as we entered the dining hall. True, the queues to eat were long but to be fair the dining staff did manage well. The annoying thing, however, was watching the huge numbers of German guests cruise into the hall without queuing like everyone else. We found the staff to be unfriendly and rude at best. We were considerably younger than everyone else staying in the hotel and started to realise that the senior citizens staying in the hotel were recieving far better service than we were. - With respect, the Travel Agents should only recommend this hotel to pensioners because it is certainly not suitable for a couple in their 30s. The lifts were entirely inadequate for that size of hotel and the entertainment reminded me of "Pheonix Nights" without the comedy.
I want to go on but you get the picture: we weren't impressed at all. We are seasoned Canary Island travellers but will not go to the "Princess" again - It really is nothing special in our opinion and you can get a lot better for a lot less money.

not a four star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This is never a four star hotel, after reading the write up in the Thompsons holiday brochure we were expecting a peaceful and stress free holiday.
On arrival we had to queue for three tiny lifts each accommadating two people with luggage, this in a hotel with I believe is catering for a thousand guests.
The next morning on going for breakfast we had to join a queue of at least eighty others waiting for a table.
Eventually on entering the restaurant we were shown to a tiny table flush against a wall, which made getting to the buffet through the tightly packed tables and chairs nigh impossible.
Although the food was ok every meal time had huge queues and was more consistant with a holiday camp than than any previous four star hotel iv'e been to.
My wife who has a cat phobia was horrified to discover cats were free to roam the the BAR and pool areas.
If you are traveller who likes the finer things in life do not conemplate this hotel.

Excellent but minor issues

from adrian evans
Went to this hotel in February and as the majority of reviews indicate this is a very good hotel. It is quite amazing that the staff can maintain the grounds and their exemplary service in such a large complex. Minor issues that could frustrate though: Checking in is a bit of a nightmare with long queues and a considerable wait. If you get a ground floor room the view to the pool area is obscured by trees and bushes. This keeps out the light which made the room cool at this time of year. With no heating we were occasionally quite cold and needed extra blankets. Bedding in the room is a little tired and worn. Be prepared for naked people in the sauna, it can be a bit disconcerting if you are wearing swimming clothes. Although the pool area is geared for small children I would be very wary there are lots of steep steps and waterfalls. Young ones need to be carefully supervised. On the plus side the food really is excellent, although there are lots of people it does not feel at all like a cafeteria and the quality and choice are excellent. The hotel is very clean. There are lots of sunbeds and even though towels do go on there are plenty available. Resort: The resorts are a concrete jungle but hire a car and Gran Canaria is much more than the resorts. Taxis seem to be very resonable. All in all we recommend this hotel for a relaxing break.

Gran Canaria Princess

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a week at the Gran Canaria Princess. It is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The food was first class with a very varied menu to suit all tastes. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The only adverse comment I would make is that we had to queue every night to go into the restaurant. The longest time was 15 minutes, but to be fair we were given a soft fruit cocktail whilst we were waiting. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which has a frequent services going to all parts of the island. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

no complaints

from bazzer1
Probably the best food we've had in any hotel (and thats a lot of hotels over the years) Definately 4 star with effecient friendly staff, nice rooms and good evening entertainment. Drinks were reasonably priced--3euros for a pint and 5 euros for a large spirit with a seperate mixer. We stayed on the 5th floor and we did ues the stairs on occasions when the lifts were busy, but it was'nt a big problem. We ate at 9.00a.m and 8.00 p. m. and did'nt have a problem with queing. We were a party of 6 all in our 60's and we would all reccomend this hotel. Perhaps there was one complaint---the butter was hard at breakfast.

Good Hotel, Great Location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Good Hotel in an ideal location, near all the bars/restaurants/nightclubs/shops/beach. Food is great, different selection every night that caters for everyone - The nightly entertainment in the hotel is Fantastic! Hotel staff very friendly & helpful - I was left bottles of drink in my room & chocolates all free! People who complain about this place aren't really happy in themselves and need to Get a Life!

Top Local Tips for Playa del Ingles

Weather in February The weather was about 22 in the day and 18 at night. We had one rainy day and it did feel quite chilly that day.

yumbo shopping centre good places to eat but we aware that downstairs there are many bars and most of them are gay bars, very friendly , very safe to walk about at night and many bars inc irish and british ones.

Just Say NO! Wear a Tshirt that says NO THANKS! You get pestered by so may people trying to sell you things and get you in their bars/on their excursions etc. They won't leave you alone and it gets very tedious!
