Iberostar Royal Palma de Mallorca We had never before booked a package holiday (ps: full marks for the Neckernann/TUI organisation) and only wanted a bit of sunshine when the first snow surprised us unprepared in Bavaria. Expectations for Playa de Palma were not high. So it was a welcome surprise when we checked in at the Iberostar Royal: efficient and friendly staff greeted us, the room and the rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean and after the very early flight from Munich we were invited to a superb breakfast. During the following days, we hired a car and explored the island. Our intention was to stick to our golden rule, never to eat in the hotel were we were staying but to explore the local offerings nearby. That is not so easy at Playa de Palma were Wienerschnitzel and Sauerkraut rules. So we gave the hotel's evening buffet a go and were not disappointed. The food was simply excellent and we did not look far an alternative during our stay - in fact after the day's travels, we looked forward to the varied evening offerings. The choice and quality could not be faulted, the staff were attentive at all times despite October being the end of a long summer season. We are not vegetarians, but the fresh vegetables, salads and fruit alone could easily compete with any international restaurant. All in all, a very busy, but civilized and well organized hotel providing a highly recommendable experience by providing a first class service at a bargain price (October 2009).
