Steep hill !

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just come back from two nights stay at the Catalonia, the hotel was very clean and modern but totally lacking any atmosphere (especially the bar which stopped serving at midnight ! even coffee !). Book a sea view room as the view is spectacular, even in Feb. Room was a good size and clean. Got the airport bus to the hotel ( No 1 ) very cheap 1.8 euro's (get off at the Cafe del Mar) the walk from the bus stop is up a very very steep hill, not easy with a large suitcase !!! Breakfast was really disapointing as even the cooked food was cold.

Great hotel

Stopped in this hotel for 4 nights. Can not fault the hotel. Had a great room overlooking the bay. Drinks in the hotel bar were pretty cheap. Don't expect a lie in, the doors slam very loudly and walls are very thin!

Hotel was great but did not think the same about Palma. There was nothing to do and there was dog mess everywhere - will never go back.

Bit dissapointed

from JHarvey39
Just returned from a four night stay at this hotel. We have been to Palma many times before and stayed in various hotels. Having read the reviews, we were looking forward to staying at the hotel. However, we must be honest with people. The hotel was very clean and exceptionally well presented but having stayed in a number of four star hotels in the area (bellver, ateana etc.), we were suprised that this had warranted a four star. The room we were allocated did have views but no balcony. It was tiny and cramped (407). We enquired whether we could change rooms (even without a view) but were told in no uncertain terms 'no'. The buffet breakfast was poor and on getting friendly with a number of other guests, we understood that the other meals were also poor. The bar area was small and uninviting. On the whole, we were very dissapointed with the hotel. On the positive side, the car rental service from reception was excellent and the restaurant down the road (cafe mondo?) was excellent value for money with a great atmosphere. On the whole, we would not choose to stay at this hotel again. Please be aware that there is no entertainment in the hotel.

Excellent for a city break

from bejay
The Catalonia Majorica is an excellent hotel, the only downside was it was a bit of a climb to get there, but great views over to the Cathedral from our bedroom. It is a nice walk into the city itself , walk by the harbour all the way. The rooms were very clean and breakfast very good, a great choice. There is plenty to see in the old town, lovely courtyards, old buildings and lovely places to have coffee. For a day out do go to Soller. You get the train and it takes about 1 hour up the valley with excellent scenery, when you get to the square in Soller, you can then get the tram down to the waterside, this we did then came back on the tram up to the square and had a lovely lunch. Enclosed are photos of Palma harbour, views from the train going to Soller and Soller itself

Great Expectations

Having read the reviews on Tripadvisor prior to my weekend away with my two daughters we were not disappointed.Stayed for two nights end of Jan 2005 to celebrate the eldest reaching 30! What a great place for a short break. Hotel lived up to its 4 star rating great food and location, excellent bus service from airport and into Palma.Porto Pi shopping centre 10 minutes walk from hotel. The staff were very friendly,it was spotlessly clean throughout. The only negative side was the hill! We were informed that a new entrance is going to be made on a lower level for better access and prove much safer for pedestrians.Recommend Baronia Restaurant in Palma near Cathedral cosy atmosphere, good food and service, pleasant staff. Will definately be making a return trip to this hotel. Ladies if you are looking for some beauty treatments go to Yves Rocher in the Porto Pi Centre they are very reasonable compared to UK prices probably need to book when you arrive as they get very busy.Open until 10pm on Fridays. We all indulged ourselves that weekend and felt great afterwards.

Great hotel, worth the climb!

from Dukeno1
Just stayed here Jan 2005. There is a steep hill to climb to it but it is a steady incline so not so bad. The hotel itself is very clean and comfortable..we had a harbour view room which is nice but not essential. The breakfast buffet wasn't bad, it had most things you need and the fresh fruit selection was excellent. Also had someone cooking some superb omlettes.
The room we had was lovely and clean and very comfortable..our only gripe was that there was a bit of a damp smell in the bathroom.
Don't let the fact that there is a indoor pool and gym here sway your decision because the gym equipment was very old and not very safe and the pool was minute. It did have a jacuzzi though.
You have an excellent bus service near by and a few bars and restaurants. The Mondo Cane restaurant down the hill comes highly recommended and the Tex Mex is good too. Give the pizza hut a miss, it's not a patch on ours!!

Great Location. Good Value for Money

from bolt712
Excellent hotel. Very clean. Stunning views over bay ! Staff very friendly and efficient. Going back in a few weeks for the third time in 18 months. Went B&B, Good choice of buffet breakfast (English or Spanish). Restauarant overlooks bay, really nice. Also has veranda where you can sit and look at the bay below with your coffee or beer. Good value for money for 4 star hotel. Only 'problem' (if it is a problem) is that it is a bit too far to walk to centre of Palma. Need taxi or bus, but you can get either really easy and it is cheap. Would recommend to anyone, anytime !!

Dangerous road.

Hotel Catalonia Majorica, PALMA MALLORCA.
Date: December 2004
Review: Nice break after Christmas.

We have just returned from a 4 day break at the Catalonia and we were made very welcome. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly.
This is the first review i have ever written, but as i would never travel anywhere these days, without checking this website first i felt i must report that the steep walk up to the hotel from the main road is quite dangerous for adults and children alike, the locals and taxi drivers are oblivious to just how narrow the road becomes when there are cars parked either side, once or twice we had near misses walking back up to the hotel, i guess the answer is 'get a cab', but if, like us, there are 5 or more of you, you need 2 taxi's, therefore we always' bus it'.
On a positive note the No. 1 bus from the airport goes right to the bottom of the hill, (Ask for Porto Pi, 1.80 euro's) Porto Pi is an underground shopping centre, well worth a visit.

Relaxing short break

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I enjoyed a relaxing 4 nights at the Catalonia Majorica Hotel during December 2004. We chose this hotel from the reviews we read at Tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed. We especially liked the view af the Bay of Palma from our room, it was spectacular!! This was our first visit to the island of Majorca and we rented a car to tour the island. We booked the car at doyouspain and collected it from Record Car Rental at Palma Airport. The whole thing was very well organised and the cost, just over £50, great value.

Just returned from a two day break to the Catalonia Majorica it was excellent. We flew with easyjet from Liverpool two hours and we were there. Caught the No. 1 bus from the Airport to Porto Pi and the hotel was 5 minutes up the hill. Thanks to one of your other reviewers we used his information and it was really useful.

Top Local Tips for Palma de Mallorca

getting there and out and about Taxi from airport excellent and only 20 euros if you join the rank at the airport. Train trip to soller and tram to port soller well worth the effort. Buses are best in Palma, trip to illetas only 1.1 euros each way and what a fabulous beach setting.

trip to Soller take number 3 bus to Plama , got off at Plaza Catalunia. Cross road to small station catch the train to Soller. Takes an hour each way, spectacular views of the mountains .Destination Soller, tram to port, you will not be disapointed with this beautiful little resort.

Eat at the Casa Eduardo This is a great reasonably priced fish restaurant in the dock opposite the Argentina road. Catch a No.1 bus from near the hotel
