Top Local Tips for Nerja

Great food in downtown Nerja After a week touring the South of Spain, we were ready to eat something other than ham! Luckily, Nerja has something for everyone. I wish I could recall the names of the restaurants we ate at, but suffice it to say we didn't have a bad meal in Nerja. We found a small cafe just off the main street with an outdoor terrace strung with lights - the pizza with salami was magnificent. There is a Mexican restaurant downtown - probably the only one, you'll see it - where we had a great experience. Tons of food and an awesome waiter who brought us free tequila shots at the end of our meal and two giant sombreros, plus some decadent banana dessert complete with a sparkler. Make sure you eat breakfast at one of the small cafes with terraces overlooking the water - one morning, while sipping fantastic cafe con leche and eating a grilled bacon and tomato sandwich and watching the sun come up over the Mediterranean, I thought "I could live here".

Nerja restaurants There are some good traditional restaurants in Nerja, but you need to plan a bit in advance. There are many websites giving very useful reviews.

Evening stroll Take a stroll early evening down to the Balcon area and sit in one of the street cafes watching the world go by. There is often music or some other attraction and activity at the church but it is a bustling area and there is plenty of human interest. Still very Spanish despite tourism.
