Affordable rooms but just adequate service

The rooms and the pricing were perfect. Family was staying at the 5 star next door (Balcone Europa) and the rooms were pretty much identical, although there is no direct beach access it is a minute walk . The setting of the village is beautiful. The only downfall was the service or lack off. The restaurant staff (who are also the reception staff) seem miserable and are pretty rude. Don't be in a rush as you can wait a very long time for food or the bill. However in saying that the hostal ( don't be put of by the name it is a hotel) was well worth the price and if I was to go back, I would likely be staying there rather than it's double the price neighbour.

We have stayed at the Marissal repeatedly since their opening in 1998 and wouldn't think of going anywhere else in Nerja. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, fresh and well appointed. The addition of a lift has given a boost to what was already a brilliant place to stay.

Top Local Tips for Nerja

Car necessary Saw Little public transport and suggest car essential to see the full scope of the area.Didnt use but told taxis expensive

Relaxing in Narja The setting is quite spectacular, steep cliffs falling away down to small beaches, and looking out over the sparkling blue of the Mediterranean Sea. The town is warren of small streets, whitewashed houses, restaurants, bars, and very expensive shopping. There are a number of small plazas with the requisite church still showing a good turnout as after mass there was an abundance of happy families. This is not the place to come to immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture but if you are looking at having some down time ready for the next round it is the perfect place. Favourite spots for me was definitely the Paseo Balcon de Europa that our hotel overlooked. It was the centre of the action, ringed by restaurants and terraces to sip and eat while watching people take the old world horse and carriage rides, or the various entertainers such as Tango dancers, human statues or to the kids delight the balloon animal shapers. Have a drink sitting down looking out over the Mediterranean from one of the Cafes perched on the rim or from the terrace of the Irish pub. Now that stupendous view is something that I would never tire of. The true joy of Nerja is wandering the streets, taking in the view, chilling out down on it’s pretty horse-shoe shaped beach, Playa Calahonda and slipping in for a Café con Leche at the café right on the sand.

Rest 34 eat at Rest 34 at least once expensive but worth it.
