Fantastic Hotel - Great for families with small children

We have just returned from a week at the Valentin Star Hotel and it was magnificent The rooms at the Hotel are a good size and very clean. We had a massive super king-size bed as well as a sofa bed for our two year old. The bathroom is also a good size and there was a hairdryer provided, so no need to take your own! The staff are very helpful and friendly, they are great with children. The Pool is very nice and rather large. It is perfect for young children because part of it is very shallow allowing the children to play freely without too much concern (our two year old loved it). BE WARNED you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds at this hotel and if you lay your towels out before you go to breakfast you will no doubt find on your return that your towels will have been removed. The restaurant staff were great and the food was lovely. Fresh fish & meat cooked in front of you and loads of pasta, potatoes and salad. Puddings were also nice with plenty of pastries and fresh fruit as well as ice-cream and yogurts. Breakfast was the best whether you like a full English, omelettes or just toast and fruit there is something for everyone. If you require a highchair then I suggest you get to the restaurant early in the evening as it gets very busy and a few times they were all taken and we had to do without – which was a bit of a nuisance. The Hotel is situated in the centre and is right by the harbour. The beach is approx 100metres away but worth a visit, however it does get very busy. Overall I would say this is a fantastic hotel and well worth a visit!!

I booked this hotel after reading many glowing reviews on this site and wasn't disappointed. The hotel is nicely done out inside and very clean, with a fantastic pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially with our little boy, and their were lots of other families there. The nightly entertainment is mixed, but we enjoyed the spanish beatles.
Cala n Bosch is a pretty and family friendly resort, centered around a harbour. The nearest beach is covered in sunbeds, with not much room to play but if you walk an extra 10 mins there are some lovely quiet coves in the next resort along.
Only slight moan would be the food - we stayed full board, and found the food getting a bit samey by the end of the week. Is good quality overall though, with fresh fish and meat cooked on the griddle in front of you. The dining room could get quite busy in the evenings too.

We were terribly disappointed by this hotel.
The resturant was very overcrowded and understaffed. The buffet had queues and reminded me of a school dining room. The food was also poor - no where near what you would expect of a 4 star hotel. Although we paid for half board we ate out 4 nights out of 7.
Also there were not enough seats around the pool for the number of gueats -many families with small children were wandering around with nowhere to sit.
Also the evening entertainment went on to almost midnight and were very very loud. No one in the rooms nearby could get to sleep - again many like us with small children.
I would never go back. This is nowhere near what you would expect of a 4 star hotel!!!

Just returned from an early May week at this hotel with my husband. On arrival we were very impressed with the smart appearance of the hotel and pool - what you see in the pics is what you get. The room was a good size, clean and smart with a balcony overlooking the pool. Reception staff very polite and helpful. Restaurant - good selection of foods - and on the whole very nice. You can always find something to eat. Staff very good if not a little too quick at removing used plates sometimes.
We are not all day sunbathers and the resort is quite small (even though from what we saw it is probably the largest) so we found ourselves a little bored and doing a lot of walking (blisters to prove it). Ciudadela is very nice - nice shopping and harbour area nice for lunch. We hired a car for two days, roads quiet enough not to be too stressful, and visited Cala Galdana - nice beach, Fornells - lovely fishing harbour with good seafood restaurants, and Mont Torro worth the climb (in the car) just for the views.
The hotel had entertainment on in the outside bar (we were a bit too early for the inside activities) which were quite good.
Overall, we had a good week, but wouldnt have wanted longer - would recommend the hotel - only one reservation - please be careful on coming out of the pool - the floor seems to be sealed with something and is very slippy. I had quite a bad fall and injured myself which hindered the holiday slightly.

Out of this World - The Best Hotel Ever

On arriving at the hotel we went to our room and to our surprise were given a pool view room - this made the holiday - it was absolutely wonderful being able to sit out on the balcony and watch the sunrise and sunset. Although the food is buffet the choice and quality were surprisingly good. We chose to eat out on some nights but only because we wanted to experience the atmosphere of the resort as well. The drinks at the hotel were extremely expensive as mentioned by other reviews - we tended to go to the supermarket and get drinks and then bring them back. (Bettabuy's is the cheaper of the local supermarkets)
The whole hotel and grounds are immaculately kept.The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We have an 8 month old baby and all the staff made an effort to talk to her. The whole resort really suits older couples and families with young children and babies. The only downside of the resort is that its not buggy friendly and has high curbs. As a warning its difficult getting buggies round the hotel as well - there are quite a lot of steps and wouldn't really suit those who are less mobile.
Another warning - if you have a baby take your own food and milk as they were very expensive in the resort (200ml milk carton £1.50, jars £1.00)

brilliant standard and value

I went there for a few quiet days in the sun with an old friend. It was everything we had hoped for and more. Brilliant location near beach, bars and restaurants but not noisy although it was just the beginning of the season and there weren't crowds there. We had a room facing the pool rather than the street so it may be noisy in one of those rooms in peak time. The standard of decor, service and food in the hotel was absolutely outstanding - and incredibly cheap too, although I expect it would be much more expensive in peak times. The pool area is huge and beautifully laid out. I can't recommend this place any higher!

My husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks stay at the Valentin Star Hotel, after much research prior to booking I have to say we were not disappointed. We have had an enjoyable holiday. All reviews are pretty accurate, however one area for improvement would have to be in the restaurant as I feel it is not quite reaching the 4* rating like the rest of the hotel especially during our second week when they ceased show cooking for breakfast and evening dinner. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and are refurbished to a high standard, ours had a wall-mounted plasma T.V. but yes only showing limited channels. Self controlled air conditioning plus ceiling fan, mini bar and yes ladies a hairdryer in the bathroom. All public areas are beautifully maintained. The lagoon style free form pool is wonderful even if a tad cool by week 2. We experienced no problems with the sun beds, however at the beach 2 x beds and 1 x umbrella = e18 very expensive, plenty empty! (So only had them once just out of principle to try and bring the price down) Staff were very pleasant and some remembered our names by week 2, however there were a few guests unhappy with a particular member of the reception staff. The hotel evening entertainment week 1 30/9 to 7/10 was every night and very very good, I agree with the other remarks about the "Elvis" night being more of a laugh but hey we're on holiday. Week 2 the entertainment tailed off and only had about 3 nights of live entertainments, which tended to be inside. So if thinking of going go in September. The bar overlooking the marine by the side belongs to the hotel and there was entertainment out side most evenings so sometimes had a choice. The chairs were comfy swiveled and rocked. The hotel entertainment rep "Tina" (from Germany) made the last night for me special, being my birthday. There were other guests throughout our stay that had special events also but they went un noticed which was a shame. We travelled with "Thomson" and while we were there we had no welcome meeting and only saw the rep once by chance and he did not get back to us with our enquiry so that was poor. We had use of the 24 hr telephone line, which we had to pay for. I agree the hotel drinks were expensive, so we used to take a glass of ice to our room and drink out on the patio, our room overlooked the Marina and bar below belonging to the hotel. Cala'n Bosh as a resort we found to be delightful, with good range of restaurants, bars and shops. I really recommend the Las Tappas bar across the Marina from the hotel - excellent for a light lunch. The beach is a short stroll away and is idealic, (although there were jellyfish on one occasion) I did feel a little let down by the lack of a Thomson rep at this hotel - if you want to book a trip as we did you have to phone. We did eastern delights, which on the whole was good if rather expensive. Spoilt by the rep on the bus as she spent the first half hour trying to flog more trips. For a wonderful evening meal we found the Cafe Balear excellent and met some local Menorcan people. All in all we have had a lovely trip.
Fantastic Hotel and Holiday

Arriving at the Valentin Star Hotel after a safe and uneventful journey we were pleased with our first impression of our holiday choice. The hotel lobby had lovely marble floors, comfortable sofas and chairs and off to one side was a bar and lounge for drinks and evening entertainment on cooler evenings. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly and the porter promptly appeared and took our luggage to our three splendid rooms overlooking the pool area. The rooms were spacious with a tiled floor and two large single beds pushed together, some have a third bed settee. Each had a lovely marble tiled bathroom with toilet, bidet, bath and shower. A furnished balcony a ceiling fan, air conditioning and a drinks chiller completed our comfort. Our rooms were numbers 278, 372 and 374 which were on the top floor and overlooking the gorgeous pool. We recommend that you ask for a pool view as on the outside of the hotel the rooms are alongside the roads but they are still quiet. We were a party of six which included my parents my Brother and his fiancée, myself and my fiancée. We were so pleased with the varied age groups amongst the guests but specially glad that there were no teenagers or school age children. This made for a very peaceful hotel and seems to be the theme throughout Cala ‘n’ Bosch, the whole area is really quiet and we observed no trouble what so ever during our wonderful holiday there.
Restaurant
As for the restaurant we couldn’t have asked for better staff and the food was excellent. Jose the maitre de was lovely, we asked for the same table if possible to be reserved each morning and evening and he usually obliged. Gloria who was our waitress for most of the week was fantastic smiling all the time and nothing was too much trouble for her. Tremendous selection of food, show cooking breakfast and dinner, even if you are a fussy eater you will find something to your liking, gorgeous sweets puddings and ice cream.
Resort
The hotel is situated next to the marina so we didn’t have to walk far. Cala ‘n’ Bosch is a very quiet resort with small boats filling the marina. Restaurants, shops and hotels surround the marina and at night live music is played in the bars which is not to everyone’s taste but the acts were performed to a good standard. We sampled the tapas restaurant and the food was excellent and being able to glance out across the marina was very pleasant, people watching and trying some of the local cuisine.
Beach
The blue flag beach at Cala ‘n’ Bosch is quite small but very nice and clean. A short walk around the corner to De Son Xoriguer took us to a nicer longer beach where there are water sports. Here there are gorgeous villas and eating places and the sea is clear and warm.
Trips
We rented a car for the day and headed to Mahon after a strole around the harbour and market we headed back towards Cala ‘n’ Bosch stopping at Fornells, Son Bou, Cala Santa Galdana and Santa Thomas. All the resorts were very nice, Fornells is lovely very quaint and quiet and Santa Galdana is very beautiful. These would be our favourite places to stay. Be prepared if you do hire a car to retrace your steps every time you visit a beach or place of interest as there is no costal road due to the protection of trees and wild life on the island, so you must always return to the inland highway every time you want to change location.
Pool, Pool bar, Games, Shows
The attractive lagoon pool was fantastic and having a walk in shallow end is great for small children and none swimmers like my mother. There are steel bars along the sides part way and steps before the water deepens so she felt completely safe also the four fountains are quite gentle. There is a small children’s pool and an outside pool bar for daytime and evening refreshments. Prices were quite expensive but this can be expected from a hotel snack bar. We didn’t actually eat here as our breakfast provided everything we needed and we preferred to look forward to our fantastic buffet evening meal. They also had a snack bar and a al carte restaurant on the marina side of the hotel. Tina the German entertainments lady was very nice and organized daily water aerobics and other team games such as boule and table tennis. There were various shows in the evening on stage by the pool side bar. These ranged from an ’Elvis’ and ’Abba’ performance to a magician-some were good others were a bit of a worry but the small children were entertained.
On the whole our holiday was wonderful we had a really happy time and have some lovely memories of the Valentin Star-cant wait to go back.

Nice place to stay

A lovely hotel with pleasant staff, excellent size rooms, very clean & tidy ideally situated next to marina, entertainment in hotel was varied with elvis & a blues band being very good acts. Only slight downside was food in restaurant at times was never hot enough for us and seen meals being sent sent to kitchen to be reheated in there microwave otherwise an excellent place to stay for a relaxing holiday in pleasant surroundings.

getting around Hire a car - in order to get the best out of Menorca you really need a car to get to all the isolated coastal villages - but the roads are excellent and traffic is light so it's a pleasure driving!
Getting around - Public Transportation Very easy to understand and very cheap to get around.
Taxi or Bus The first time we went we had a taxi because it was market day and we needed to be quick. It cost just short of 12 euros. All taxis have a printed charge sheet - so charge the same. On next visit we used the bus which run very often (ask at hotel desk for timetable) takes about half an hour and you must purchase a ticket ftp,m ticket box in main square for return journey.
