Great apartment, but beach and dining not up to much!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Have just returned from a 4 night stay at Mariott's Marbella Beach Club. I'd say the name was a bit of a misnomer as it is 12km from Marbella and the beach is not well kept, clean or inviting so most guests stay by the pools instead.
We took both a two bedroom and a one bedroom apartment and both were beautiful, really well equipped, very clean and comfortable and I'd recommend them to anyone looking for an apartment holiday in the area if they are prepared to travel to get to any of the "sights" as none are really near by.
Have to say that for the difference in price (only 25 euros per night) I'd opt for the larger, more visually impressive two bedroom two bathroom apartment even if I were returning just as a couple.
The master bedroom in the two bedroom apartment has an open plan ensuite bathroom which is fantastic and is better laid out and feels more luxurious than in the one bedroom apartment (which is not on open plan to the bedroom, presumably because this might be used by additional guests if they were using the sofabed) the second bathroom in the two bedroom apartment has a massive full room depth shower - wonderful!

On arrival (with two toddlers and someone with difficulty walking) we were disappointed that this 5* resort did not have porters - but the receptionist was great and offered to help us with the luggage.
We'd arranged a private car transfer from the airport to the resort but I'd recommend hiring a car as the entire resort is built over a (completely hidden) underground carpark meaning you can easily take your luggage from the car up into the lift next to your particular apartment. For those without a car though, it is easy to get taxis and it is possible for taxis to pick you up next to your lift in the underground carpark if you have difficulty getting up to the main entrance.
The hotel's restaurant is definitly not worth going to - slow (though friendly) service and dreadful food. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby and we'd recommend the excellent Chez Michel and La Hacienda which are both only a 5 - 10 minute drive away instead. (For those prepared to travel 15 minutes and splash out 60 euros p h for a special treat, the ultra deluxe Marbella Club Hotel's Beach Club does an absolutely fantastic ongoing buffet lunch by their beautiful pool and beach from 1.30 to 4.30 and you can stay there using their facilities for as long as you wish...we didn't want to leave but eventually did at 7pm!
Overall, great apartments, lovely swimming pools (though the outdoor ones are icy cold!) small grocery store but it does stock most of what you'd need, poor beach and very poor restaurant on site - but with your own apartment kitchen and some great restaurants near by we'd say that this isn't a huge issue.

Highlight of our trip, will definitely stay there again

What a beautiful resort! My new wife and I honeymooned in Spain, and after travelling through much of central and southern Spain, we spent our last 3 days in Marbella at this Marriott. It was a great and relaxing end to our vacation, with beautiful views and top-notch service. Because it was our honeymoon, the staff presented us with a bottle of champagne and took care of every request that we had. The only 2 small downsides that I will mention, which do not detract from the hotel itself, are: 1) the onsite restaurant is not that good. Our coordinator told us herself that she never eats there, and we found out why when we went. Food is only so-so, but the prices are a bit on the high side. 2) do not buy one of their tours if you have any capacity for visiting the site on your own. We took the hotel tour to Granada, and if there was ever a way to spoil the beauty of the Alhambra, they did it. The tour was poorly planned, included a 30 minute stop at some hotel on the outskirts of Granada so that we could be forced to look at souvenirs, and included guides who were so bored they spent much of their time talking on their cellphones rather than showing us Granada. But the hotel itself is well worth the trip, and if you can, try to come to Marbella through the mountains from Seville.

Loved the Marriott Marbella Resort!

We just returned from a week in Spain (4/23/05 - 4/30/05), where we stayed at the Marriott Marbella Resort. The resort was fabulous!!! It was everyting their website claimed it to be and more. There were 6 of us sharing a 3 bdr/3 bath unit. We had a 2nd floor unit with a balcony, and though we were not considered "ocean front" we still had a wonderful view of the ocean through the gardens.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The unit was spotless and well-appointed. Any needs or requests that we had were filled almost immediately, and we received a follow-up call to ensure things were done to our satisfaction.

All the pools were well-kept and clean, and the grounds were beautifully manicured. We only ate at one of their restaurants - Restaurant El Mediterraneo - which served us a fabulous meal!

I highly recommend this resort! We will stay here again if we ever go back to Marbella!

Loved the Gorgeous Marriott Marbella Beach Resort!

We just returned from our Easter holiday at the Marriott Marbella Beach Resort - 5 days total, and we could have stayed longer! The hotel itself is comprised of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments with full kitchen, dishwasher, washer/dryer, huge deck, and lots more! There was a spa on-site which was great - very easy to get appointments by just walking in. The beach is nice, but it was a bit cool so we spent most of our time at the main pool (there are indoor and outdoor pools).

If you want to venture into town, the hotel will coordinate a number of excursions for you, or, you can simply take a 10 minute cab ride into the town of Marbella for tapas/sangria/etc.

We don't have children - but, there were plenty of families there and it seems to be a very kid-friendly resort.

We would love to return - highly recommended!

Very Nice Stay

from beansy
We stayed at this property for three nights. The staff was friendly and the rooms were great. The only issues were that the restaurant food was horrible. We highly encourage you to skip this at all costs. I also felt that I was mislead when being invited by a concierge to help with my plans. This was a way to present their sales pitch for the timeshares! Overall, a very nice pool and property that we enjoyed! Also, the nearby restaurant La Hacienda was our favorite.

s Marbella just one complaint

from amandahig
Just returned from our 3rd stay in a 3 bedroom apartment which cannot be faulted for space and quality, however being on the first floor, we could hear every noise from the apartment above, scraping chairs, kids running around really early, baths running etc... It was Easter so the resort was busy, but I would definately request one on the top floor next time. Having said that I love the resort and the superb amenities and would choose it again when we return.

Great

from stanleyn
The resort consists of lots of apartments - spacious and very well appointed each with a good kitchen and up to three bedrooms. Daily housekeeping. The few small problems we had were quickly sorted. Two heated indoor pools and two outdoor pools. It's quite isolated - 10 km from Marbella(!) but with some local shops a couple of miles away. There's a restaurant in the complex which is not bad. I wouldn't have wanted to be without a car. Highly recommended

Really nice!

We stayed here over Easter and it is just a great resort. We had a huge 3 bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and it felt very luxurious. The beach is beautiful, the pools are clean, and the staff is helpful and efficient. No complaints--we loved it.

Marbled floored Marriott in Marbella is marvellous

Just returned from a week here (9-16th January 2005) Probably this is the quietest time of year to visit this part of the world, which probably explains why the posh restaurant on site was closed for refurbishment and the bar didn't open 'til 6 in the evening. That said, the apartment was very spacious with marble floors, a full kitchen and a lovely bathroom with constantly replenished towels. There are other good restuarants within walking distance (if you don't mind dark, quiet deserted streets!) and if you can make it as far as the 20 minute walk to the commercial centre, you must try SS & BB's place for the tapas, which are very good indeed. Just point at what you want and it'll eventually arrive. Try the hake with clams if it's on the menu, or the spicy meatballs. The two of us had a large portion of pork, a small portion of hake and four other small tapas dishes plus a bottle of wine for 28 Euros. Everyone at the resort was very helpful in booking golf, a trip to Ronda and even our taxi back to the airport. All in all a good time had!

Restaurant Closed

from loveItalyvisitor
We have just returned from a week at the Marriott Marbella Beach Resort. The resort is very good and the apartments are excellent quality and exactly as described on the website. But beware if you are going over the next few weeks as the management have closed the main restaurant for refurbishment without notice. We knew nothing about the closure until we arrived and found it a serious inconvenience. There is nowhere to have a meal or snack apart from a small bar serving tapas (only open from 6pm) and the on-site shop where you can buy food to prepare in your apartment. You can also buy a cup of coffee in the shop.

There are a few small restaurants nearby - mainly with limited menus, also some of these are closed. To find a good quality restaurant with a wider choice you need to travel by car or taxi - not something we wished to do every evening.

Top Local Tips for Marbella

taxis pre book your transport as taxis at the airport are pricey compared to the return journey

End of January Mixture of windy, rain and odd sunshine periods

Car Hire Definetley isolated, I would recommend hiring a car
