After we booked we read some past reviews and felt apprehensive. The way into the Hotel by car from Malaga is difficult to find. We found the room to be clean and comfortable, the food was OK but limited on choice sometimes, could have done with the inside bar open - but there were quite a few bars and restaurants within walking distance. The beach at Elviria (20 min walk) is excellent but you really need a car to fully enjoy this area. The hotel is situated in lovely gardens with pine trees which are kept very nice as is the swimming pool. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. After reading reviews from earlier years we can only assume hotel has different owners as we think we had value for money.

Clean, comfortable accommodation

Good value, clean, quiet, comfortable room. Accommodation is in rooms set around superb gardens. The main reception rooms are lovely and varied so you can be quiet or play games, watch t.v. etc. as you wish. Although the hotel is set at the side of a busy dual carriageway there was no road noise evident in the room we had. Staff were polite and friendly; please note that typically, Spanish people appear more reserved but reciprocate when you treat them with respect/friendliness etc. Food is again typically Spanish so do not expect 'English' bacon and eggs! Breakfast consists of hot Spanish bacon and a choice of eggs (scrambled, boiled, fried or poached) with a different addition each day e.g.sausage, together with a selection of cold meats, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, croissant, sweet bread rolls, plain brown and white bread, butter and jams and cakes. Evening dinner a chef cooked a meat and a fish choice at a griddle in the dining room plus there was always a further choices on the buffet : two meat choices, pasta choice, vegetarian, a spanish dish, a range of vegetables and sauces. Desert was limited to fruit, icecream or yoghurts.
Two local beaches are small but very good for swimming and there are beds and shades for hire. turn left out of the hotel and over the bridge for the best one. Turn right to find a range of shops and restaurants. Buses are frequent into Marbella centre. (around 15/20 minutes).

The location was horrible...in the middle of no where, along the motorway! would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We went all inclusive which was a joke. Could not eat food and if you were lucky they might serve you at the bar! The bedrooms were clean BUT the rest of the hotel left a lot to be desired. The staff had very little English and this made things even more difficult. I have to say it was one of the worst places I have ever stayed. I would not even give it one star maybe they have received their 3 stars for their lovely gardens but DONT GO HERE FOR YOUR FAMILY HOLIDAY

I booked Las Crapas via a late deal internet site and didnt bother checking the reviews before i committed my payment. Once i had checked the reviews and saw the appalling reviews it had i took them with a pinch of salt and thought "how bad can it be". My only advice on returning from there is DONT GO. I have not got the time ( or space ) to list all the reasons not to go but here are a few.: dirty room, dirty bathroom, no good facilities, no entertainment, filthy bar area, filthy restaurant, middle of nowhere, filthy pool and reception staff who need training on how to make people feel welcome ( all i got was unhappy grunts ). Bear in mind my trip was only 4 nights and that was enough to make me write this review, the first i have ever written. Dont make the next bad review be yours. STEER WELL CLEAR OF THIS HOTEL.

This has to be the holiday from Hell. Let me start with the good points and then go steeply downhill. The grounds are nice, the room clean and maidservice adequate. The entertainment was mainly a Spaniard playing typical Spanish crap. The food was diabolical. Apparently food is brought in because there are no cooking facilities there. The breakfast featured virtually uncooked bacon. Sausages, if not used one day were put on again, peeled to take of the yesterday tan. Also, if bacon appeared a little more cooked, then it was yesterdays.Soup on ALL days looked like scum from washing up water. Food was lukewarm at the best. Croissants one day had a shade of blue mould on them. It is safe to say that food not used on one occasion was submitted again and again. Dirty plates, dirty cutlery. The whole food operation is an absolute Health risk. Outside, not 20 feet away from reception there is the Motorway. The hotel is the wrong side of it. Marbella is 10 km down the road unlike some reviews on the net that gives one the impression that it is in Marbella and amongst the action.The only action is trying to dodge the ultra fast traffic. A footbridge up the motorway as long as you're willing to walk at the side of it to get there. A road bridge down the motorway with 2 sliproads and converging traffic to play Russian roulette with. Same can be said for the bus stops. No strip to walk on and nowhere near the sea. To drink, there is the hotel itself and maybe 2 bars within russian roulette distance with extortionate prices cos they have a captive audience. The Airtours rep was aggresive and rude. He would be better suited to working in a prison. Oops, forgot. It was LIKE being in a prison with sunshine. Last week, Airtours had to move 40 out to other hotels. This week(around 1st. June 2004) about 20 have moved but at a price. We were only there for 7 days and by the time we were able to fill in the Complaints form ( hindered by Chris, the rep) it was too late for us to do anything about it. In conclusion, AIRTOURS want their heads examining for using this horrible hotel and I will pursue this matter for a FULL refund. There is a lot of misrepresentation here and it needs sorting.OF ALL THE HOLIDAYS ME AND MY WIFE HAVE TAKEN OVER THE YEARS THIS IS BY FAR THE VERY WORST. I am anxious to point out that we are NOT habitual complainers and that this is the first time anything like this has happened to us....... Allan and Carol Ward.

Hire a car!

I was unsure what rating to give Las Chapas because it really depends on what you are looking for from your holiday.

Taking a family? - Then the rating could be 4 out of 5 if you hire a car (no car 1 out of 5). The hotel has a pool, mini golf, tennis courts, vollyball area, basketball area and tennis tables. These facilities could keep your kids well occupied. Didn't seem to be any form of childrens entertainer though. You would need the car to get around for evening entertainment as the hotels is poor and the hotel is 10 minutes drive from anywhere really built up. Food is average but I'm a bit fussy about Spanish food (no shepards pie!).

Couples? - Rating is 4 out of 5 (if you hire a car). 10 minutes drive to Fuengirola where you can find cheap bars and 10 minutes to Puerto Banus where you can see lots of big boats! The dual carridgeway outside the hotel means that it is quick and easy to get anyway along the coast. Gibralter is only about 1 1/2 hours away.

Hotel has a new (ish) block of rooms that would account for the tiny balconys and small rooms. I stayed in the old block where the rooms where fine (inc. TV).

DO NOT go to Las Chapas if all you want to is lounge around the hotel all day.

HIRE A CAR. Explore the beautiful costa del sol.

I had the best time of my life at the hotel. Me and my girlfriend stayed up all night if u know what I mean. The service was wonderful.
The location is the best. You only have to walk for like 10 minutes to the beach. its all worth it

after booking last minute deal with airtours we ended in this hotel within 24 hours requested change as did at least four other families.rep was waste of time ,always tomorrow sort everything out,food,crap,drinks very expensive,pool never cleaned,Complained every day until airtours offered hotel in Fuengirola but had to pay extra £250 for 11days plus taxi fare.this is blackmail at it's worse for elderly people,but anything to get away as for three days bought cheap wine and just hung around waiting to move.Never again will I trust Airtours deals as there is NO WAY they should send families or less active people to such a location if anybody was seriously injured trying to get to the buses or beach they should be held responsible

the worst holiday of my life . i returned from las chapas (sorry--las crapas) with CAMPILOBACTER which is a notifiable disease and a not too pleasant one at that. i have never experienced such disgusting food.

Worst location, worst hotel with the worst staff and food we have ever experienced. Never saw the pool cleaned the whole week so we didn't use it. Food left out and open all day under hot lamps. Bar closed at midnight so if you arrive late you are unable to even get a drink.
Position of hotel alongside a 4 lane and 2 slip road main motorway, frightening to negotiate buses and beach (not worth the effort). Hotel isolated so brochures should point out that in this area a car is an absolute essential. Hotel not suitable for pushchairs or elderly or infirm.

Having checked the internet about this hotel after booking I was very apprehensive - we found however that the hotel itself was not too bad - rooms were clean and quiet and entertainment was provided some nights.
The food is buffet style for breakfast and dinner and whilst you would not go hungry it is nothing great. The main problem is the location which is halfway between two towns and really in the middle of nowhere.
The beach is a good 10-15 minute walk from hotel and is fairly difficult, crossing roads and involving hills. We would not go back to this hotel but anyone reading this before they go and who have already booked need not fear an absolute disaster - for a week (as we did) its not too bad.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds. That is the only good thing to say.
We wre placed in the unfurbished block behind reception. The beds were unlevel and no one else occupied the this block which had 30 rooms we were completely alone. Everyone else was in the newly refurbished block. The food was horrific, completely inedible. Runner beans and sweetcorn for breakfast????Rotten fruit, rock hard bread rolls, unwashed cutlery,hot yoghurts, black eggs, cardboard coco pops etc. It is set in the middle of nowhere, on a motorway which is like the M25.
You have to walk up the slip road of this motorway to get anywhere - be careful when lorries drive past they nearly blow you over the edge. We saw lots of dead, squashed cats? The pool was cloudy and grimy and full of bugs. When we went there everyone was complaining and asking to be moved, the airtours rep was useless and never solved anything. There are only 20 sunbeds which are all broken, everyone gets up early to put there towels on them, so if you dont get up before 8am good luck as you'll never get one. Overall the hotel is dangerously situated and if you dont get hurt walking up the motorway you will be likely to get ill from the food. I would never go there again.

Having booked this holiday as a late deal as part of a group I decided to check the internet for information on the hotel and having seen the earlier reviews made in April 03, I went to the travel agent the next day to cancel the holiday. As a group of 15 we stood to loss £2250, £150 deposit per person as a booking form had been signed. The travel agent went on to assure us that the hotel had been taken over by Airtours in June and that the poor reviews we were concerned about would not affect our holiday.

The hotel building was clean, the grounds ok, the pool was dirty.
Probably about 25 sunbeds to 320 rooms. The pool bar was the only bar out of three to be open and it was poorly staffed with ques for drinks waiting 15 to 20mins for a drink only to be told to bring your old glass back as they didn't have any left. The beer and softdrink was expensive, 1.50 for glass of soft drink.

The Food was very poor, no variety at breakfast nor dinner basicaly the same food every night we eat there. We eat there the first week and we started having stomach upsets etc, so we eat out the second week. The icing on the cake was the fact that there where ants walking all over the deserts cakes and gods knows what else. This made me sick.

The location of the hotel is like being left in a carpark along a moterway. It is only suitable for people who have there on transport and even then it is very dangerous unless you are used to driving in very busy roads. The Hotel website mentions that the hotel is 10 minutes to the beach, its more like 20minutes or longer if you have children or older people to cater for. The beach is fine however it wouldn't be in the same class as ones back home. Trying to do excursions is difficult as airtours do not provide transport to the various excursions, we particularily wanted to go to Tiviolli World however because the last bus left at 10.30pm and the park opened between 6pm - 3am we couldn't go as the taxi back costs 40 euro.

Be very careful walking to the beach, bus stops or the small commercial centre (turn right) as footpaths are poor or non existant.

The Airtours rep was useless, why have reps if they don't listen to and deal with the customers concerns.

There are so many things I could say about this place but I'll learn from it and put it behind me.

Las Chapas Hotel Hotel was terrible not worth the money i spent on the all inclusive, food was really bad and the bar service wasnt to good..Nikki beach is worth a visit, Ocean club and P.banus for the flash acrs and boats.....

Marbella Old Town Definitely make time to wander around the Old Town in Marbella - genuinely beautiful and a taste of 'real' Spain in the middle of all the chaos. Try the Churro's at the cafe in the corner of Plaza de los Naranjos - a cross between a pancake and and doughnut and absolutely gorgeous, and the cafe itself is in a great location.
