Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Villa Padierna
Classical Luxury and Relax in Magnificent Surroundingsfrom SpecialTraveller
I arrived by car on a Friday evening and upon reaching the security check point where the private road leads to the hotel, I had my first view of the main building: a superbly well-lit Tuscan palace crowned by the Spanish flag overlooking the golf and the surrounding hills.
The personnel was very welcoming and all smiles. As I entered the main hall, the smooth sound of a very well played harp was already inviting to relax in a roman setting mde of marble, full of statues and columns, all decorated with a modern touch.
My room was well fitted, with modern facilities and with a breath-taking view over the golf course which is just at the doorstep of the hotel.
Cleanliness and order are all over. The Roman spas are particularly relaxing with all sorts of treatments and massages available. Additionally there is an outdoor pool with usual facilities. The gardens also follow the roman trend with plants, statues and fountains. The golf course, 18 holes 72 par, is extremely well kept and full of challenges for the experienced golfer.
My stay was brief, but if it would have been a bit longer, I would have rented a car, since the hotel is a bit far from shops, town center and beaches.
Consequently, I would particularly recommend this place to persons seeking a retreat, relax, escape from stress, honeymoon, wedding anniversary, experienced golfer, conference venue, celebration, group meeting. The hotel does not have entertainment for children nor for teen agers.
Did I like my stay? Oh yes! Would I recommend the hotel? Oh yes! Would I stay again? Oh yes! The hotel is just under a year old, with lots of projects for future expansion. I am already looking forward to another stay in the near future to enjoy the amphitheatre, the second golf course and the shuttle bus to the beach.
You do not need to be a golfer to appreciate this hotel. Having said that, this must be a golfer's ultimate hotel. For ourselves, the hire car was an absolute necessity, as we explored the jaw dropping delights of the ravines of Ronda and the heavily trod tourist paths of the Alhambra Palace in Grenada.
*The hotel will blow you away. Statues and fountains everywhere. It is a veritable classical paradise.
* The rooms are sumptious, spacious and divinely comfortable
* Excellent selection of English speaking TV channels including the unbeatable Sky News and the over talky German MTV
*Service very poor by Ritz Carlton standards. We waited over an hour for a room service delivery of ice.
* Breakfast overpriced and very disappointing. I skipped it on our third day. Greasy bacon and rubbery poached eggs. Not worthy of the Ritz Carlton name despite the impeccable service.
* Check in disappointingly misleading. We were told we had been upgraded when this was not the case!
* La Loggia restaurant area lacked sparkle and opulence.
* This is not a young person's hotel. The Friday night harp player said it all! However, we loved it despite the initial service problems.
There are many more exciting restaurants around. Avoid the inedible and hugely expensive haute cuisine of La Veranda and enjoy the outstanding ocean delights of Tikitanos (excellent prawns, tuna and fillet steaks) Take a hike out to the marina styled, highly chilled ambience of Puros and Trader Vic's Mai Tai at Laguna Village Beach Club. Obtain a more current perspective on Marbella high end living!
Oh I know they are sooooopo conservative, those Ritz Carlton boys, and Villa Padierna, has been our most historic time travel vacation to date, but at the end of the day Ritz Carlton is just unbeatable. A fabulous hotel.
definitely a ritzfrom beach_md
After a long Air France flight from LAX thru Charles de Gaulle to Malaga, we were disappointed to find that not only could business class passengers lose their luggage, but they could also be met with horrible service from the Air France ground staff. Juxtapose this to the gracious and efficient welcome we received at The Hotel Villa Padierna where the concierge staff immediately took our flight and luggage information to assist us in getting our luggage back (something they were able to do in less than 24 hours!).
Because of the delay in our luggage, we again used the concierge staff to book us a new tour of the Alhambra on short notice. Not only did they manage to get us tickets for a tour within 2 days, but they also arranged a private car to take us from Marbella to Granada.
As others have mentioned in this forum, the property is stunning and one realizes that no expense was spared in its design and decor. However, what makes it even better is that it manages to feel comfortable and homey even with all the surrounding luxuries.
The rooms are gorgeous and have all the necessary amenities--a sound system with an iPod hook-up, cable tv, internet access (although wifi would be nice in the rooms, it is available in the lobby area). We did not have an iron in the room but one was brought up quickly when we called. Our junior suite was spacious, had a great view of the golf course, and had a huge bathroom.
The spa with its circuit of steam and sauna rooms should not be missed. We would return to this property just for the spa alone, but we hear that there is an upcoming beach club and we can't wait until next summer to check it out.
Loved it, but rent a car!from travelingnewlyweds
-Although the food is good, there is very little variety and it was very expensive. The majority of the time we ordered food or drinks, the waitress overcharged us (but they were quick to fix the problem). Watch your bills closely! You can go outside the hotel to eat, but you have to have your own car and be willing to drive for 5-10 minutes into town. My husband and I tried to eat outside the hotel as much as possible in order to avoid the large bills and to avoid eating the same thing at every meal.
-Unless you play golf or like sitting at the pool all day, there is nothing to do at the hotel. Again, you need your own car to enjoy the area.
-They seemed understaffed. examples: 1.we had to ask for an iron several times over a 24 hour period in before we received one. 2.It took hours for our luggage to be brought to our room the first day. 3.There were supposed to be servers in the pool area, but I rarely saw them and I was never asked if I needed a drink or anything.
However, the staff was very friendly.
-The surrounding properties are all under construction, so the views from the hotel (beyond the hotel property) were not impressive. Also, when we were there in September, the hotels "pond" was non-existent it was so dry. I would imagine this would effect one's golf experience (neither my husband nor I play)
If you want to sit at the pool all day or play golf, we highly reccomend this hotel!!
Hope this helped!!
Beautiful hotelfrom anyone
The initial approach up to the hotel off the N340 is a bit scruffy but as soon as you enter the golf course area you get your first stunning impressions on the approach to Villa Padierna
Our check in was immaculate with the bags being whisked away immediately - we booked a deluxe room and whilst being totally impressed with the first room we were offered it unfortunately overlooked the roof-tops of the adjoining building!!! We were disappointed that they had clearly tried to get away with offering us this room - once we complained though we were moved to an equally nice room with a view of the golf course
The rooms are truly beautiful as are the bathrooms and balconies - they simply are hard to beat for the quality and luxury and comfort! the corridors are lavishly appointed too and the whole hotel has a fabulous aura of total luxury
The service lets this hotel down as many of the other reviews state - it is quite slow and poor in most parts - and really needs to be improved for this hotel to be truly 5star!! It didnt however put us off
The fine dining restaurant La Verandah - is fabulous - we dined there two nights of our three night stay and were very very impressed with everything including the service which was first class!! It isnt cheap but is a lovely experience!
The outside pool area is beautiful with cushioned sunbeds and lots of quality thick towels! The indoor pool however doesnt open until 10am which is poor for a hotel spa as I am sure many visitors would like to have a swim before breakfast or at least before it becomes too hot in the day to swim indoors!! The spa itself is beautiful - it is disappointing though that guests have to pay to use the various different sauna and steam rooms - only one or two are complimentary the rest are 25 euros per day per person!! This should be included in the rate for guests at the hotel and we had been advised it was when we booked as the web site had said this was complimentary until Xmas! Not sure though which Xmas it had been referring to!!
A Car is essential for this hotel as it is well away from the usual marbella beach resorts which is one of the reasons we chose and really liked it but if you want to travel around you really need a car - the car parking underground is first class and we never struggled for a space - there is easy access in the lift from the car park into the main reception area
We did complain about the quality of the breakfast which was very overpriced, unclear and limited - we were refunded for the cost of day one breakfast and then had the price deducted for day 2 and 3 leaving us having to find somewhere else for breakfast on those two days which was very inconvenient as the hotel is not best situated for finding alternative breakfast facilities!! The Manager assured us that when we visit again we would be impressed at the changes he was planning and he did apologise for the breakfast disappointment
We would definitely stay here again - it isnt a cheap hotel but overall we really enjoyed it
Pros: very nice pool, very nice rooms with all of the western amenities
Cons: not close to the beach, service was so-so, food and drink were expensive, overlooked a bunch of construction, a bit stuffy and only foreigners. If you want something with spanish flair, don't go here, it could be a hotel anywhere else in the world.
A jewel!!from sachsenhausen
Would definitely recommend the Spa - with numerous saunas. This is definitely a MUST!
Never made it to the fine dining restaurant due to our baby but breakfast was delightful (just the right amount) and the overall service was excellent. You definitely need a car to get around though.
You get what you pay for!from msteBG
I contacted the hotel direct through the Ritz Carlton and got a very attractive rate including breakfast. The room was impressive with a private balcony and every amenity you could wish for. English was spoken by all of the staff, whom were very efficent and friendly.
The building is stunning and there is plenty to explore around the hotel itself. Too hot to play golf, which was a great shame because the course is both stunning and challenging.
Very nice pool area with views over to Gibraltar and Africa, excellent facilities, staff and sevice.
Breakfast on the terrace was fairly simple but nice, and the dinning in the evening was excellent. This hotel is not cheap and if you are on a tight budget then you will not get the best from it. Like anything in life great service and food cost!
I drove down, and was glad to have done so as at the very least you would need a taxi to get you anywhere. The hotel even allowed me a parking place right outside the entrance, but were more than happy to park it underground if required.
Finally use the spa, it's not cheap but the services and quality of the place is first class.
Fantastic Hotelfrom januska
DO NOT be put off by that review. Firstly the hotel is superb in every way, far better the the last Ritz Carlton we stayed in the US VI last year. The staff are very helpful and friendl, so much so they bend over backwards for you (possibly not if you are rude and dont deserve better!)
The pool is beautiful far from the norm, as is the spa, although I was dissapointed that there was no hot-tub!
There are beautiful, very relaxing seating areas in and out of the sun, especially the livingroom.
Food- as in any hotel of this standard is not cheap, but the snack menu offers very tastey options!
I reccomed this hotel to anyone who appreciates what it has to offer.
The best hotel on the Costa by-far, much better than the Byblos.
A let down!!from LolaW
On arrival nobody there to help with bags. Eventually after a wait somebody offered to help. Breakfast overpriced and limited. Lunch bland and limited. Restaurant staff, slow and miserable.
Beautiful building, with beautiful furnishings. Rooms very good.
Lovely views of golf course and surrounding area.
Really Good Point
Whilst checking out we were approached by the manager who asked how we enjoyed it. We voiced our complaints re breakfast being overpriced and limited and service not being good and immediately he apologised and thanked us for the feedback and compensated us generously. immediately putting me at ease, it was a welcome response and i left feeling as though they genuinely were going to look into things and not feeling at all bad about mentioning downfalls.
Hotel could be really special if service and food was addressed, and am sure if the current manager stays there things will improve.
In my opinion not 5 star standard right now
Top Local Tips for Marbella
marbella club hotel buffet lunch with sea views mouthwatering cost 70 euros p.p. but well worth it.we spent 3 hours over lunch from starters to cheese and coffee didnt need an evening meal so quite reasonable really.
Taxis Taxis can be very expensive with no rhyme or reason to what they charge, agree the fee before you get in and start the journey
Casco Antiguo For an interesting dining experience, head over to the Casco Antiguo (the old town) for dinner at either SKINA (Modern Andalusian cuisine) or CASANIS (French bistro) then have a coffee at the quaint Plaza de Los Naranjos (Orange square) and meander through the cobblestoned streets/
