I was really disappointed with this hotel. It was very 'sombre' and not happy at all. It was difficult to obtain any information and the staff at Reception did not speak good English. I would not return.

Fine as far as it goes

This was a fairly average sort of place to stay. The room was fairly comfortable (looking out onto a block of flats but with a balcony) and the staff were helpful and efficient. There's a nice terrace area at the front of the hotel but you'll need a taxi ride if you want to get right to the heart of Marbella.

enjoyable...

just got back from the el fuerte following a 4 day break. the first thing to say is that this hotel is aiming for the slightly older guest so dont expect anything other than a laid back approach to almost everything this hotel does. the quality of the hotel itself is good, rooms clean & comfortable and the pools are very nice but expect flamenco and middle of the road music as typical evening entertainment. the plus points outweigh any negatives and if you want a quality hotel in a great location the El fuerte is a good choice.

excellent base for marbella

from moungay
we had a week at this hotel over easter. The service is of a high standard and the staff are extremely helpful. we were on a b & b basis and the breakfasts were superb with an excellent choice.
The hotel was occupied with mainly Spanish people and there was not an endless parade of tour buses which was very nice. The hotel was very clean and although our room was average size the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable.
The hotel has a lovely indoor and outdoor pool so good for all weather and the facilities were good .The beach was right in front of the hotel and the old town of marbella was a 2 minute walk away.
I would easily recommend this hotel.

Great location

We stayed at El Fuerte for 2 nights mid-February. We had a little trouble finding the hotel, and spent about 20 mins driving back and forth on the busy road that runs through Marbella. The hotel itself is very peaceful, and has a brilliant location on the beach front. We booked B&B through the Internet. Room was fine, and breakfast was varied - from hot cooked breakfast through to bucks fizz!
We ate out at "Restaurante Bodega El Burlaero" which was about 5 mins walk from hotel - fantastic paella and plenty of locals there. We also ate at "La Pasquera" in the Old Town, which was also excellent.
Plenty to see and do in Marbella - shops, and you can walk for hours along the promenade towards Puerto Buanus.

Disaster after Disaster

from ELH12
Where do I start? I booked this hotel as a surprise weekend away for my Husbands 30th Birthday.

First of all our luggage got lost, not the hotels fault but I’ll get back to that later…..

I specified that I’d like a room with a cot as we were travelling with our 11 month old, when we got to the room, it was actually smaller than our bathroom at home, and contained 2 single beds with no space what so ever for a cot! I called down to reception and they said if we wanted a larger room we would have to pay another 50 euros per night!! Relucantly we agreed, and specified we would only pay if we had a double room that would fit a cot, the receptionist said yes it did.
When we got to the second room it was only marginally larger than the first with 2 single beds again, by this point I was really upset with having no luggage and not what we asked for so couldn’t be bothered moving again.
We then discovered that the mini bar wasn’t working, informed reception and they agreed to have it seen to, we then went out for the afternoon, when we came back still the mini bar wasn’t working, when they insisted it had been repaired. Later that evening they sent someone again to repair it then it did work.
My husband tried to have a shower that night, but it was too dangerous, it suddenly went red hot all of the time, could you imagine what would have happened if he had our Son with him??
Back to the suitcase, on Saturday evening it eventually appeared, so I asked reception if they could just do me a quick letter to say what date it arrived and at what time, they said if I go back in half an hour it would be ready. Anyway it took 3 days and I had to ask 4 times before I was told that I couldn’t have one, the hotel Manager wouldn’t allow it as its not Hotel policy!
On Sunday, as all the shops are closed, we had planned to use the indoor swimming pool and make use of the hotels facilities, we went to reception to ask where the pool was and was told it was closed for refurbishment, if I had known this at the time of booking I wouldn’t have stayed here, we were told to use the pool outside – it was raining!!!
On Monday we came to check out, I queried the bill as we didn’t get what we paid for and with all the faults and tried to negotiate a discount, as was rudely told “if you don’t pay it now I’m calling the police” I asked to see the Hotel Manager and apparently she was the Manager! Her attitude was a complete disgrace and I would advise anyone not to stay there!!

The Friendiest Place in the World!

We've stayed at the El Fuerte Hotel for the last twelve summers and have found that it is THE most warm and friendly place to stay in Marbella---or anywhere for that matter. The staff of the hotel is awesome! The location simply cannot be beat. You will be right on the beach and five minutes walk to the old town of Marbella (just across the street). The hotel is clean, the service excellent, and the garden overlooking the Mediterranean is breathtaking! Do whatever is necessary to book at this hotel!

Fabulous hotel

from Glasnevin
We stayed 4 nights at Hotel el Feurto in Marbella earlier this week- it was fabulous from start to finish. On arrival the reception staff could not have been more friendly. Our room was not immediatley ready so we were given a complimentary drink. We had requested a double but got a twin room but this was immediately rectified without a quibble.
The hotel is located right on the beach and has 2 swimming pools, gym. There is waiter service at the pool and they given come round with complimentary fresh fruit skewers in the afternoon!
Breakfast is excellent, including a glass of champagne if you wish!!
Its in a top location in marbella. I can't fault this hotel as any request we had was dealt with efficiently and professionally- I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Marbella!!!!

Brilliant

Just returned from a 5 night stay. You will not be disappointed with this hotel. Yes, its a bit dated but its hard to find something to complain about. The only slight disappointment was the classic towels on sun beds problem. We noticed that our fellow holidaymakers were up very early securing the position around the pool, at one point we witnessed an argument between two holidaymakers, one of whom had removed a towel from an unattended bed. The owner of the towel took exception to this resulting in a fairly heated exchange. The hotel didn't seem to have a policy for this and in the end it was a case of 'if you can't beat them, join them'

The room was very good although we did get sight of a 'standard room' which didn't have a balcony and was fairly standard. The breakfast was very good and the staff very attentive. If I wanted to be super critical I would say there was limited choice in terms of hot food.

The hotel is ideally placed with plenty to see and do, you won't get an opportunity to get bored. I would suggest thhat the avergae of the holidaymakers was in the region of 50-60, however there were younger couples and the odd child. Don't expect loud music and lights.

Overall we were very pleased with the experience and would certainly visiit again if given the opportunity.

Good All Rounder

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just back from a ten night stay in this hotel and really enjoyed it. The best thing about this hotel is the location, old town on the doorstep, beach boulevard right in front of it and Banus just a ten minute taxi trip away. We had a side sea view room which gave us an excellent view of the sea. The rooms are nice enough but if you are looking for total luxury then you might find them a little dated. The breakfast buffet is a bonus, get there before 1030am because they clear up pretty quickly! This is a good all rounder hotel, aimed at mainly couples, families and older clients...not for those who want a clubbing until dawn type of holiday, in fact Marbella is not really that kind of resort. We loved it and would stay there again.

Perfect location, great staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at El Fuerte for our honeymoon at the end of May. We had originally booked our reservation for a honeymoon suite with champagne and fruit but upon arrival the staff had forgotten. However they were quick to remedy the situation and we were given a seaview room with a spacious balcony, champagne and fruit. (We were also given two double beds but just pushed them together). The service at the front desk was fantastic. They were very helpful in suggesting places to go and things to do. The hotel is right on the beach and steps away from the old town. There are a lot of fabulous restaurants. Try La Cuisine or La Trattora. The breakfast at the hotel is abundant and includes champagne. The hotel property is beautiful; palm trees and beautifully landscaped. We also found the rooms to be very quiet and clean. It was perfect for our honeymoon. The crowd is a little on the old side so if you are looking for a party, move on. Overall we had a wonderful time and would definitely go back if we are in Marbella again.
