Incredible renovations

We have stayed at the Don Carlos Hotel in 2002 and it was good back then. Recently we saw an article on www.marbellas.com (hotel section) about the 23 million euro renovations and desided to take a trip. The hotel is amazing - so modern, but keeping the friendly welcoming feel we enjoyed before. The gardens are the best for a hotel in Marbella, and now they have a Nikki Beach Marbella on site. Ten out of ten all round.

We go back every year as it's on the beach for kids, excellent breakfasts, walk to all beach restaurants and is convenient with an excellent beach - best time is Easter which is when we're going again this year!

A Waste of Money

Although the Don Carlos is nicely kept and clean, it is a huge rip-off. The $350 per night we spent did not even include a towel and chair by the beach. The restaurant and bar were likewise too expensive. Save your money and find another hotel.

Taxis from Don Carlos From Don Carlos hotel to centre of Marbella approx 15 euro or taxi to Peurto Banos approx 25 Euro.

Careful on the main drag The road along the coast has an appalling safety record. This is probably due to the number of entrances and exits. Be very careful.

Try and get turbo The Marbella motorway (A-7) is often only two lanes wide and a lot of cars turn onto the road from a stationary position, and often on a curve! Better to hire a turbo if you can to avoid these situations.
