Not a good choice if you value being able to sleep

from FlCracker
Stayed here for 3 nights in November. Room was laughably small and worn. Paid 93 euros on hotel site. Was our 4th trip to Spain where we always try to stay in Spanish-run hotels and we were very disappointed this time. There is no way this is a 4* by american standards, I would say maybe a 3* and liken it to a Hilton.

Worst part about the place was the lack of soundproofing. The doors to the balcony are about 75% effective, but it is an extremely busy boulevard and there is substantial noise that goes along with the road. In addition, you could hear your neighbors talking through the walls and every step that people took in the room above you. Whenever plumbing was used in other adjoining rooms, you could hear that as well in your bathroom. I am shocked that other reviewers haven't called attention to this problem. My husband is a heavy sleeper and even he couldn't cope.

Initially the room was clean, but after that, I noticed that the wood floors in our room were never once swept. I kept thinking that this was surely an oversight and finally just resorted to taking slippers from the gym for use while in the room. There were also no robes in the room (as was represented on the hotel site). The lack of an iron was unfortunate, especially given that this is a business hotel.

Positives included the free minibar in the room which was restocked daily. The staff seemed helpful. They did grant our request for a harbor view room. Taxi stand out front was convenient. Having a balcony was nice (again, no chairs).

The location is central, but if I return I would stay at the Don Curro or Larios, which also have nice locations on much quieter streets.

Great bathroom

Walked in off the street got a room at 125 euros. Huge black marble bathroom very clean and well appointed room. Told there would be no view but at night a lovely view of the castle lit up and the side of the newly cleaned cathedral. Staff efficient and friendly, free mini bar with pop beer and water. Good central location cab rank at door for airport around 11 euros for ride.

Fab Location

We choose this hotel based on comments/feedback on trip advisor. The hotel really is in a great location near to all the main sites, shops, bars and restaurants. The views from the roof top pool are great. We were lucky with the weather and had the roof to ourselves most of the time we were up there. We stayed in a superior room, which was massive, and as well as a big bedroom had a sitting room - would not do this again as we didn't use this room - although having a robe was very nice!. The room, and public areas, were a bit shabby in places but in general the decor was very minimalistic and tasteful. Don't be fooled by the free mini bar as it consists of soft drinks/water plus one bottle of beer! The hairdryer in the bathroom was great, which in my view is very unusual in hotels. Although the hotel literature states that there is a free coffee bar when we asked staff at reception they seemed unaware of this - although on the last day we found out that there was coffee available from 12midnight until 7am. It was great having the use of a sauna, steam and gym. However you may find it is not switched on and if this is the case you have to call reception to get someone to sort this out (this took ages and my husband actually had to go down to reception eventually to sort it out).

Good location near nightlife and cultural sites

from A TripAdvisor Member
Incredible place. Good location near nightlife and cultural sites, generously sized rooms, mini bar, big bath, reasonably priced laundry service, balcony if available, views of harbor and leafy boulevard. Taxis waiting at front door. Walking distance to good food, but hotel's breakfast served late had all Spanish or English/American food items, including Spanish meats, eggs cooked to order, coffee, juice and pastries. Rooftop pool with high views of Malaga finished off the experience -- you could look down at the Cathedral in your swim trunks and see most of the city at that height. Staff friendly and willing to accommodate all requests we found. I'd stay there again.

Loved the view from the pool

from A TripAdvisor Member
Great location, loved the pool - the views are magnificant, and the free bottles of water were most grateful...the room was spacious and clean and overlooked the port. Great free minibar! Would definately recommend for a short stay in Malaga - and go to the Tapas bar about 2 doors away from the hotel (turn right up towards the cathedral) - great free Tapas with every drink!

jaded glory but location location location

from rackyc
stayed here for one night for the fiera which is great fun! We had a great room on the top floor with fantastic views. The hotel is now a little shabby with marks inside the lifts and legs damaged on tables etc but you can not beat the location. Stay there for the location.

Excellent hotel

from P.Rouse
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in July. I had pre booked from the hotel's own website and had requested a high floor room with a view of the harbour. The hotel gave us a room on the 13th floor with great views over the harbour as requested.
The roof top pool was excellent and although not crowded on the first day we arrived ( a thursday) on the friday it seemed a lot busier although possibly with locals. Even so you could still get a bed and it wasn't crowded.

The facilities are excellent at this hotel and it was a nice touch having a gym and sauna. It is more of a business hotel than a tourist hotel but this is a plus as there are virtually no children! The location is excellent and I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent hotel!!

Last weekend I've stayed in this hotel. I can say I'm used to nice hotels, but this one beats them all!! Great hotel, beautiful room, excellent service and personell and from the pool on the 15th (!!) floor a beatiful view over the city and harbour of Malaga. If you're going to Malaga, this is the place to be!!

Best Location in Malaga City

from A TripAdvisor Member
Four of us (two couples) stayed for 5 nights in July 2005. It is the third time at this hotel and the standards have been consistent - spotless rooms, restaurant and super breakfast (13 euros) and very helpful staff.

The location of this hotel is excellent - next to the cathedral and old town yet within 3 minutes of the Picasso museum and main sqaures, streets and restaurants. The majority of rooms at the front of the hotel have a balcony and view of the port (at no extra charge) My tip would be to ask for a port view room on the 9th 10th or 11th floor - this should guarantee a balcony with an open view. If you aren't allocated a suitable room then simply ask to change on arrival as the hotel is rarely full.

The pool area on the roof (15th floor) is very welcome. Free towels and free bottled water are provided from a stock in the changing rooms - just help yourself. There are only about a dozen sunbeds but we've never had a problem getting one. Plenty of shade is available. Note that pool area is closed during winter months. Even if you don't sunbathe you should go there to get an unusual view of the cathedral (you look down on it)

The free mini bar of mainly soft drinks in the bedroom is still available and this year a free mini bar (beer & soft drinks) and coffee and cakes are provided in the ground floor lounge between midnight and 7.00am

24 hour taxi rank outside is useful. If you are staying for few days then Malaga's best kept secret and my recommendation is that you visit Pedregalejo after 9.00pm (when the locals start to eat). This is a conservation suberb of Malaga located about 2 miles east, on the coast with a long promenade but no traffic. It is packed with open air fish restauarnts which have beach barbecues and is where the residents of Malaga eat cheaply. A taxi is about 5 euros or you can catch the no 11 bus opposite the hotel. This runs every 10 minutes during the day.

The main tip is to use the hotel as a base and get out and enjoy yourself - we always do.

ve stayed in

from jaygee
We stayed here for 4 nights just last week and booked on the strength of the great reviews and we were not disappointed. Agreeing with the previous reviewer, the location is excellent and not only is there free coffee between 11am and 5pm but also free beer, bottled water, fruit and pastries.

Again agreeing with previous review, the lack of table and chairs on the balcony is a minus; nevertheless, the view over the harbour is lovely. Not all rooms overlook the harbour though. The blinds in the room were excellent at keeping incoming light to a minimum and this would be very necessary in high summer as the sun rises in this direction.

There is a minibar in the room with free beer, soft drinks including coke and water, and fruit juices. Other drinks have to be ordered and paid for.

Our rate included breakfast and this was an excellent buffet which included hot dishes and Cava.

The Restaurant itself is very good and reasonably priced although the range of dishes is not big.

The gym is small but modern.

There is an underground car park not too far away.

I found the staff very helpful without being in your face.

Top Local Tips for Malaga

Gambas Pil Pil The major draw for us returning to Malaga was the wonderful Gambas Pil Pil & Habas con Jamon at La Dehesa bar/restaurant, just off calle Larios. Highly recommended.
