Historical Traveller Reviews of Aparthotel Ferrera Blanca Hotel

perfect location

from manu4me
Me my wife and our 11 month old son stayed here from 12th may for 1 week, first time in majorca and we thought it was a lovely island, ferrera blanca are basic but reasonably clean, location is perfect for close restaurants and bars, rancho el patio in particular was our favourite just round the corner, calad'or itself is a good 10 minute walk from hotel but plenty of bars and restaurants on route. carabel pub was a good night just round from hotel and duke of devonshire was quite good for food. all in all i would recommend this resort and the ferrera blance was a good location. We are looking to book again we enjoyed it that much.

Excellant but surprising

from KeeryHols
I return to thi resort every year with my family. The accomodation and location is excellant. This year we had a urprie to see the gay scene get out of hand at the side of the pool. Luckily enough we were able to move the children to another pool. The staff, accomodation are excellant and such a nice part of the island to be.

The Hotel

We arrived about 5am and it was hot. Check in was painless with no hidden costs (such as a security deposit). They do keep your passport though.

Our first room 11-305 was right outside which was nice as the apartments are spread out and some can be difficult to find.

The balcony offered both a pool and beach view so was pretty good in that respect.

Facilities : three pools - the main one which was noisy as they play music all day and the other two were quiet. The beach is only a couple of minutes away in any case.

A small shop in which they add 20c 'hand over' charge if you want a newspaper - so buy yours in town. There is a shop right outside that has all you need (except papers) . There are also plenty of shops nearby. I mention this as the one outside the hotel is more expensive.

We only went to the bar once, there was entertainment on each night catering to families.

We never ate at the hotel as there were so many nice places to eat in town. The hotel charge 10 euros each for dinner, you can eat for less than that in the restaurants.

The Rooms

Very small and cramped. Rust, chipped paint etc made it look dirty and it did smell musty. The air con didn't work neither did the lock on the door to the balcony or the doorbell which since we were only given 1 key could have been a problem. However a safe is only 2 euros a day.

A burst pipe meant moving rooms mid week. They gave me the keys to the available apartments so I could choose one.

Seems all the rooms are small, balconies vary considerably and some are very large. Room placement may be important though. If your by the main pool expect a lot of noise all day (with the same songs played over and over). The view from the balcony can range from nice to non existant, and lots of sun to no sun at all.

The Staff

We didn't have much interaction with the staff except the guy on reception who was helpful. Not much I can say.

My Travel

The welcome meeting was scheduled for 10:30am, since we didn't get there until 5am this seemed like a stupid choice.

We did book two trips which were great; however the reps failed to book us on the second one but the tour operators took us anyway. It's definitely worth getting out to see more of the island.

The reps did seem to be around quite a lot though.

The Area

The hotel is close to one of the beaches, it's small and busy though. Two bars and a shop by the beach also.

Just round the corner is a street with bars shops and restaurants. 10-15 minutes walk will take you into the center of town which is worth the walk. Some really nice places to eat and should cater for most tastes.

It's a really beutiful place and probably the nicest area we've ever stayed.

The 'noisy' bars only seem to open at night so the place is very peaceful during the day and early evening although even at night it seemed quiet.

I'd go back again next week!! I would choose another hotel though however I wouldn't rule out staying at this hotel again if the price was right.

I really recomend this place. It has something for everyone but remains unspoiled.

lovely resort

from tanerman
if your a family with small children like us then i recomend this resort,it offers 3 pools a lovely small beach nearby and plenty of shops to browse on the main street. you can chill out while the kids swim and play or you could venture to any of the other 3 local beaches (within 1 mile or so) and the lovely marina all in cala d,or itself. ferry trips to many locations you may like to visit are as regular as 6 per day. the quietest apts are faceing the beach and are super you,d probably get one if you ask. if you eat at the restaurant it will cost you less than 40e 2adults and 2kids with a drink each it is quite good and eat as much as you like (can) but if you stay for 2 weeks it tends to get a little repetative. all in all we thought it was great and had the best holiday yet and we,ve been to majorca 4 times.

Better than expected

Just returned from 2 weeks at the Ferrera Blanca Apartments. Having read many of the reviews on offer we went with an open mind. The journey from the airport to the apartments takes approximately 60 mins. The reception area was well presented, clean and tidy with plenty of information about the area, trips and car hire available.

We checked in and were given a first floor 1 bedded room (207) in block 14. The apartment was basic but clean, apart from the small army of ants by the front door, which was quickly remedied by the acquisition of an aerosol spray from reception. As with several other reviews there was a strange smell in the apartment, which took 2 days to establish was caused by someone having urinated on one of the mattresses at some time, this had obviously escaped the notice of the maid. The staff dealt with the problem quickly and efficiently once they were notified of the problem. The maids attended most days with a change of towels and bed linen. However, the bathroom was not cleaned every visit. There was even a mop, bucket, brush and dustpan located on the balcony which seemed to indicate that guests should use these items to supplement the maid service.

The grounds were well kept and clean, with pleny of sun longers available at any one of the three pools. The apartments are located on the outskirts of Cala Ferrera, but within easy walking distance of Cala D'or (15 mins) along flat pavements. There are quite a few restaurants on the road into Cala D'or, with the Espiga D'or, Duke of Devonshire, Andy's Bar and the Polynesian next to the apartments being amongst the best. Once you get into the centre of Cala D'or you have to contend with the "restaurant touts" trying to entice you into their establishments.

Overall we were pleased with the Ferrera Blanca Apartments, the friendly efficient staff and the resort of Cala D'or itself.

We checked all the reviews for this hotel and although they seemed to be mixed on the whole they seemed ok, but now I have stayed here I just do not get why people gave it such good reviews. All I can say is other people must have very different views as to what makes a good holiday. Last year my partner & I stayed in a 4 star hotel in GOZO which was just a dream but we did pay highly for it. This holiday I went with my mum & sister we paid £310 each, so I knew it would be basic but was expecting it to be clean and modern. In truth when you first get dropped off you think it looks ok and some bits do look like they have had some work but the whole place needs to close to be updated. We had 3 rooms before we got one that was half decent ( ok if you like rooms that look like something from spain in 1974). One of the main problems is the fact that the rooms have very bad security problems with the patio doors, we did read about this before we went so got a safe and ALWAYS put away anything of value. But my advice would be, DO NOT accept a room on the ground floor at all, if you have to kick up a fuss then do it. We stayed in block 13 which needs updating but is more secure. We also found that we were not the only ones unhappy with our rooms we saw at least 3 other groups that wanted to change rooms, also be aware that the rooms are small although have a good size balcony. The cleaners DO NOT clean, we stayed for one week and they did no cleaning at all of the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen area ect. The place was very dirty and damp, when you slept in the beds they felt damp. The beds were changed twice but linen is old, the towels again are very old but were changed every other day. I would not stay here again ever, if you are thinking of staying here I would not advice it. I think the only people they would suit are families that want a cheap holiday, bad entertainment and english pubs ( its like being in Blackpool with the worst kind of people) I really wish I could say something nice about this place but I just feel people need to know the truth so you know what to expect. Cala d or is awul its full of british pubs with british food and just makes you feel like you are in a bad seaside town in England. The only nice place to go for a drink or dinner is the Marina in Cala d or, its more expensive but is alot more relaxed with nicer people.

What a fabulous holiday. Great location. We had a great room near the pool but were never bothered by noise. It was amazingly clean lost count of how many times we got clean towels and bed linen changed. The breakfast was great value for money especially on mondays- free kid with each adult. Entertainment was ok they try really hard - the sketches show was hilarious. My kids aged 11 and 8 said it was one of the best holidays ever. Don't miss a trip to The Marina we ate at an amazing restaurant called Acaurius where they made you feel so welcome. Loads of great restaurants in the main town too many good ones to name them all but don't miss El Patio-all you can eat ribs-heavenly. You must eat in the polynesian just outside the apartments as the staff are so friendly we went every nite for bedtime cocktails and they made our holiday!! Any downsides none i can think of maybe not suitable for people that have a problem with steps up and down to beach.

Hello Everyone, Mself and my fiancee stayed here for the last 2 weeks and overall were extremely impressed with the resort and the apartments HOWEVER do not leave anything in your appartment without a safety deposit box. Our apartment was broken into 1 week into our trip. They stole my wallet and my i-pod. The patio doors do not seem the hardest to open when locked so please be aware of this. otherwise our holiday was fantastic. the resort is beautiful, lots of entertainment and places to eat. The apartments were perfect for what we needed, which was sunbathing and relaxing on our large terrace/ balcony. the staff were very friendly and the beds were changed 3 times a week and the towels changed and room cleaned 5 times. Overall i would recommend hightly but just be very security concious ! I would also recommend the Quad bike trip, the excellent pirates show in magaluf and the aqualand waterpark Oh and also the Vita Bel II yacht trip ! simply beautiful ! Adios and enjoy Your holiday !

from majorcalover
Best resort in Majorca for families, can get very busy in high season, swimming pools are crowded you need to get up at 7.00 am if you want a sunbed, the food in hotel was good 10Euro for buffet, plenty of Bars and restuarants plenty choice (indian, chinese, mexican, thai, steak houses, english pubs) spoilt for choice we ate in a different restuatant every night every one was great, the apartments were ok only basic 2 star, they were cleaned regularly, no entertainment in hotel for 14- 17 years old but plenty to keep them amused in resort, Visit the western water park it was great, dont book through the hotel as it will take 2 hours to get there as it stops at every hotel possible, overall we had a great holiday in fererra blanca and would recommend it to family and friends.

Excellent Value Break

from WibaWoba
Just got back from a week at the Ferrera Blanca appartments with my wife and two children, 10 and 7, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The weather was scorchio, not a cloud all week, and the appartments ideal for the break we wanted.

It was booked at the last minute, getting the details via a travel agent then going on the website directly and getting a further £100 off. Whilst other tripadvisor reviews were good, at two star we weren't expecting the Ritz. We were however pleasantly surprised. The appartment consisted of a lounge/kitchenette, twin bedroom, bathroom, and good size balcony. A/C worked very well throughout. Bathroom was reasonable size and everything worked. Beds were comfortable, with the children sleeping in the living area, one on a full size pull out mattress under the sofa, the other on the sofa mattress (OK for a child up to ten but would be a bit thin and uncomfortable for an adult)

Self catering facilities were basic with two rings, sink and a microwave, but everything worked and as Cala D'or is such a marvellous resort we ate out all the time anyway. It's true the fittings are not the most modern, but that didn't matter a jot to us as everything worked and it was certainly clean.

All staff we found to be pleasant, and there were plenty of them. Cleaning is certainly regular and thorough - was like the Royal Navy cleaning team at times only with fewer tattoes. Towels and bed linen were changed three times during our stay.

There are three good size pools, all freshwater and clean, both with shallow and deep ends, plus plenty of sunbathing space and beds. The complex is set on a slope so there are some steps to the beach (about a 3 minute walk), but the beach is stunning, safe, and well worth it. We used the pools to wash off the salt each night on the way back!

The evening entertainment was high on effort, but nothing to write home about. This didn't spoil things for us though as there is so much to do in the wider resort we simply walked out of the hotel into town to amusements and live music galore. The hotel supermarket we also found to be unusually well priced.

This truly is a beautiful resort - have never been back to anywhere before but may be tempted next year. One of the things that appealed is that the resort is not totally dominated by Brits - it seemed very cosmopolitan. We came across Italians, Germans, Scandinavians and Dutch - all in equal numbers to the British.

The appartments were ideal for us - sure no laura ashley furnishings or high class fittings, but it was comfortable, clean, and high on value for what we paid. Give it a go!
