I stayed for a couple of days at this hotel on the Executive Floor (upgraded by accepting a Sofitel Privilege membership), which had free cocktail hours and snack times. I found the extensive breakfast in the morning to be a refreshing treat and the dinner menu selection to be a welcome reprieve from a busy day in Madrid. Service was superior (the to and from airport services were very efficient) and the room was adequate, yet luxurious. I liked the convenient location in airport vicinity - and it's a nice place to retire to at the end of the day. If you want world class comfort and superior service at an affordable price, the Sofitel Madrid Airport Hotel is a very good choice.

Top Local Tips for Madrid

Madrid had a fantastic Mtero system It is easy to navigate once you get the feel and the timing is incrdible. Someone told us (don't know if it is true but it worked) the trains are timed at each stop for someone to get off one and hustle and catch the next one. Be fast and you'll almost be assured of no waiting.

Be Aware of lines at Madrid Barajas Airport! If you are flying out of Barajas airport before 3 PM, get there at least 3 hours ahead of time. You might end up sitting at your gate with nothing to do for an extra hour, but there is a very good chance that you would need all of 3 hours to get through the horrendously long lines at check in and security. Being used to JFK's somewhat efficient operation we got there 1:45 before our departure and missed our flight. The lines move at the pace of glaciers and the staff are zombie like! They get an F in customer service!
