This hotel was well located. Very close to the Plaza Mayor (hence the hotel name). Situated in the centre of Madrid this hotel was excellent for access to the local tourist sights. The hotel itself was clean, excellent value for money. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.Just one tip - there are so many cafes/restaurants around that you just need to book a room only basis.

Top Local Tips for Madrid

cab fairs and supplements Be sure that the taxi driver is using the meter (tarrif 1 during the weekdays, tarrif 2 after 10 PM and on weekends). Also, note the airport and bus station supplements listed on back windows of the cab. Don't accept any different amount like I did!

Tapas Eat lunch and dinners in the small Tapas bars by ordering a few local Tapas. We had small Tapas of Paella even! You can get wonderful meals this way without a overfilling, many times over priced dinner menus. Every bar has their own specific House wine and specialty tapas, just ask.

Day Trip to Segovia Go to the train station, and buy the 5.65 Euro one-way trip to Segovia (about a 2 hour train ride). Check out the Roman aqueducts and the history of the city. Amazing!
