Top Local Tips for Madrid

Taxi Drivers are mean! Well, they are in most major cities around the world, but I encountered more mean ones in Madrid than any other(and I used to live in NYC). They don't like to travel short distances (less than 5 Euro), and don't like it when you catch taxis in the middle of the street. Make sure you speak Spanish to them if English is your first (or only) language - that's kind of offensive to them as well. I don't speak Castellano, so that probably didn't help either. I'd advise to take the metro.

Departure back home Our journey from the airport to the hotel we got a taxi but on our departure we diecded to sign up to the hotels own car which will collect you and take you to where your terminal is. This is a lot lot cheaper than getting a taxi, so I would definately recommend doing this. At the reception area this is advertised with the pricing - keep an eye out!

Metro Get a day pass in the airport, superb value. We had a 3 day for 9 euros and that included getting us to and from the airport.
