The hotel was quite nice. Very modern, good use of space and very clean. As Americans, we had never seen the energy efficient system of lighting the room using your room key and had to go back to the desk to ask how to turn the lights on. The bathroom was very nice with a clear glass door, a little embarrassing for a teenage boy, though. Bunk beds made room for the family and fun too. There was even a restaurant in the lobby but it looked a little pricey so we walked down the block and found another hotel with several restaurants in different price-ranges and one fit perfectly.

Modern, comfortable, and close to the airport

My wife and I stayed at the High Tech Madrid Aeropuerto on two separate occasions during our honeymoon trip to Spain in July 2004. We booked this hotel because of it's relatively low cost, yet it was very close to the airport. We needed a hotel that would be easy to get to and from after sightseeing in Madrid during the day, but flying to another destination in the morning. This hotel fit the bill.

THe shuttles from Barajas ran frequently and were easy to hail from the terminal. It is an easy subway ride to Barajas to get to the free shuttle as well if you are coming from Madrid.

The rooms are very modern, comfortable beds, and loads of technology. The shower was fantastic, and free in room internet access was a plus. It made it easy for us to send pictures home in a comfortable setting. One night, our room had an elliptical machine in it. You can tell this hotel is meant for the busy business traveller who works all day, but needs a nice technology-rich place to sleep at night. The hotel is not close to the city-centre, there is not a whole lot nearby, and the in hotel food and drink is not that cheap. BUT, it was perfect for what we needed - a very nice hotel, with great service, close to the airport. So, if you have an early flight out of Barajas, this hotel is a great place to stay.

Looking for Smoke-free Dining? We ate breakfast at Zahara on Gran Via several times. It was so nice because they had a separate enclosed room for smokers. There are two locations of Zahara on Gran Via, but one charges higher prices for sitting at the tables rather than the bar. The other location only has one set of prices, and they are the lower bar prices. The breakfast choices covered most tastes (even eggs are offered) and included coffee in the very reasonable prices. Fresh squeezed OJ was only 1 euro extra. Beware, though. We got so comfortable we ordered a second cup of coffee which is apparently not for purchase alone. They charged us the inclusive-of-toast-at-the-table prices, around 2.20 euros, but brought us no extra toast. We learned our lesson and didn't order that extra cup again. The location with the lower prices is on Gran Via in the direction leaving Callao and walking towards the Opera.
