Top Local Tips for Madrid

You can buy train tickets to Toledo at the automatic machine! Do go to Toledo ! Its half an hour train ride from Madrid and its a definite highlight! Note that there are automatic machines where you can get Renfe train tickets! Buy ahead if you can, and certaintly buy your return tickets before you go. We didn't know about the machine option, we were tacken by a train official to a room where you got numbers in line to buy tickets from an official. We wasted hours in that line along with other uninformed tourists. Go to the Renfe offices (near the lush plants in the train station) - not the ones near the metro!

Reina Sophia lines The side with the glass elevators facing the plaza had a huge queue but if you go around to the other side of the building near the library there is another entrance and the line the day we were there was much shorter.

Parque el Retiro One of the things I liked the best in Madrid was taking a relaxing break one afternoon at Parque el Retiro. We bought lunch (even though we could have made a picnic out of this experience) and enjoyed the sights. It was just what I needed!
