Forget the decor - yes it is a little tired, forget the odd grumpy waiter in the restaruant; they have been there 40 years and are probably entilted to be less than impressed by pain in the 'a' guests. Instead,relax and enjoy the sound of waves lapping against the pier or shore, listen ... no kids jumping into the pool, in fact the only sound you hear is the sound of pages being turned on well thumbed novels. The absolute best location in PDC, well maintained gardens, little rocky cove, dircet access to the sea, sun terraces to match your degree of lizzardness.... Good food; what more do you want.

Top Local Tips for Puerto del Carmen

a few tips 1) If you are taking a package tour, its worth getting a taxi from the airport to avoid the long wait as the tour bus fills up - plus if you get to the hotel early and you don't like your room, you have a better change of changing. its only a 20 minute trip - don't remember the exact fare, but about 20 euro. 2) ifyou stay at the fariones appartments, rather than the hotel, you still have access to the facilities and beach of the main hotel. 3) best restaurant is the cascada del porto, on the main street going down to the old town. 4) guided tours are expensive and restrictive, much better to hire a car and move around more freely.

Genuine articles Canary Islands have always had a reputation about 'fake' goods. The holiday rep could not guarantee locations where perfumes and electrical goods could be purchased with absolute certainty as being genuine. One store selling perfumes had prices similar to those we had found in Dublin Airport on the way out. Prices for alcohol are about 5% cheaper in the resort than in Arrecife Airport. However, liquids must be placed in the hold luggage and not carry on unless bought in the airport.

Eat Out Good restaurants include "la Cascada" and "Puerto Bahia" near old Port.
