Granada Tourism Granada is actually kind of a dirty city -- pollution seems to be a problem here, Alhambra is the main attraction for tourists and definitely worth seeing. Admission is limited to 15 minute intervals which re set when you purchase your tickets. This is because Alhambra can only handle a certain number of people inside at one time, and assigning admission times allows the numbes of people to be controlled. It makes for a much better touriing experience. There is one area the tourists need to stay away -- the Barrio Sacromonte. It is highly dangerous at night and not so great during the daytime either. It is occupied mainly by a population which use to be referred to as Gypsies and are now referred to as Roma. The Roma do not limit themselves to the Barrio -- they frequent the downtown of Granada, as well, begging for money. They are quite aggressive and annoying, and do not take no for an answer. Some of them are pickpockets, too. Local police do go after them, if they are notified.

Book early for the Alhambra This is often brought up but worthy of repetition - book your tickets EARLY for the Alhambra. You can book them on the Internet and if the tickets are sold out (I tried and failed a week before my trip) you can then get them by getting a guided tour on the same site (I'd imagine this would also sell out if you're not careful). Supposedly you can buy tickets from BBVA banks (one of the largest Spanish banks) across Spain although I'd imagine this is only useful if you bought them while looking at another city in Spain first. I travelled in May which was hot (30 degrees Celsius) but nice - good for the tan...or sunburn. I'd imagine it would be too much though in July or August. The Alhambra itself is a cool (temperature) place to be though.

Arriving Suggest a taxi. Once at the hotel, the bus service is cheap and frequent
