It was complete surrendipity that we found this small hotel to stay at in Granada. The proprieter, Manuel, was so generous and kind, that we felt immediately at home, and our accomodations were stunning. Clean, romantic, stylish, authentic. We had our own balcony overlooking the city and Sierra Nevada Mountains and were only a few steps from the Alhambra, but the generosity and spirit of the service was the best experience we ever had, so much so that we were sad to leave. A delicious breakfast came with the price of accomodations and fresh fruit and water were always available. The house was beautifully appointed and is a historic house type (the Carmen). Do not miss this gem of a place. It far surpassed the accomodations offered by 4 and 5 star hotels we have stayed in.

Top Local Tips for Granada

The Alhambra Book a time slot for around 1.30pm for the restricted area of the visit. This will give you plenty of time in the morning to visit the Generalife gardens and the Alcazaba fortress, before going into the (covered) Moorish palaces during the hottest part of the day.

your stay in Granada Don't forget that Spanish restaurants tend to open late for lunch and dinner. Don't plan on staying too long in Granada itself - the Alhambra is wonderful but the rest can be fitted inside a day. And don't bother hiring a car for Granada itself - parking is very difficult and buses are cheap and excellent. do book the Alhambra ahead of time via the internet. and do go early in the day, before crowds mount up.

Alhambra Definitely visit the Alhambra first thing in the morning - it's the only way you have any chance of enjoying the surroundings in peace.
