Top Local Tips for Gran Canaria

Las Palmas A lovely city, with plenty of cultu're, not at all "Kiss me Quick" and hardly any british tourists, great places to eat out ,do try the local 'menu de dia' as you will get a taste of some great traditional meals, and also good for shopping. the beach is fantastic, so long, with crashing waves one end , and calmish waters at the other. The beach is scattered with childrens parks, and there is a local science museum not fat away which my children enjoyed on a cloudy day

The Public Bus Service The public bus service within the city limits and to other centres on the island is excellent. Early on obtain timetables for the north and south of the island and the separate timetable for the city itself. Buy a Global 'Tarjeta Insular' ticket, currently priced at 15 euros. All bus trips are then at a discount. State your destination to the driver and the cost will be deducted from the 15 euros credited to the card. Some buses leave from the bus station at 'Santa Catalina' but the majority leave from 'San Telmo'. The timetables will indicate the appropriate bus station. Bus number 17 provides a good link across the city.

Sea Front restaurants Generally much more expensive on the sea front with the exception of the 'Happy Pig' which was excellent Canarian food at very reasonable prices and fantastic service
