This is the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect from the staff to the food. Look forward to going again this April.

NEW HOTEL FLORIDA SPA (FUENGIROLA). Have just arrived back from this brilliant hotel where do I start when you arrive you are greeted as you get off the bus by the porter who takes your cases into the hotel then to your rooms he shows you how to operate the a/c and the plasma TV on the wall we were on the 11thfloor over looking the harbour. The bathroom was a luxury all glass, chrome, and marble, plus a large walk-in shower with bath robes elegant soft furnishings laminated floors and rugs at the bedside we also had a fridge and a safe deposit box for the use of free of charge.
The dining room was very well laid out buffet service for breakfast, which included bacon, sausage, egg, beans, tomatoes, and freshly made omelettes, and plenty of cereals and fresh fruits, and waiter service for dinner with a good selection of salads and sweets and choice of four dishes for the main meal, which you ordered.
The staff in the dining room Maria, Monica, and Mike did a fantastic job, as there were only 21 people in the hotel the first week and 48 the second week when ever you went into the dining room there were never more than 6to8 people at any one time you felt that you had your own personal waiter.
The staff working in reception were always pleasant and helpful and always spoke to you when you came in or went out, with the Hotel only a few months old it was very quiet it was a shame not seeing this lovely hotel with a lot more people in as this the best HOTEL I've ever stayed at and that includes the U.S.A
There wasn't any entertainment on as such but they did have a pianist (very good) who played every night to just a handful of elderly guests but once this hotel gets established you wont be able to book as it will be so popular and I would not be surprised if it didn't finish up a platinum hotel because it does have a touch of class we will definitely go back AGAIN and AGAIN

Fabulous

from dominomags
Gorgeous hotel - lovley comfortable rooms - terrific sea views - good food - clean pool - what more can you ask for. The decor is modern, sort of art deco with one of the nicest lounge areas I have seen.
I would have no hesitation in telling people to go there. We stayed 5 nights as part of a Spanish trip. We travelled from Fuengirlola to Seville then to Granada and finished up in Frigiliana. Public transport (trains in the main) were excellent and very good value.

pleasent hotel

from RonBoltonLancs
Ocober 2007, stayed at the Florida, good hotel, staff excellent. Only complaint the hotel entrance is down a side street, and you have to walk approx. 200yds from the coach drop off point. Likewise you have to be on the pavement on the front approx 15mins prior to coach pick up on departure, which means you could be standing in the rain or vunerable to having your baggage stolen. We witnessed a bag being stolen by a moped mounting the pavement and snatching a bag from a gentleman awaiting the pick up coach. This situation needs resolving by either the hotelier or the travel company that you book your holiday with, currently there does not seem to be any evidence of either being interested.

MIxed experience

from missysunshine
Firstly, just a bit about us, so you know where we are coming from with this review. We are a couple in our thirties, with no kids, and we usually travel to hotels aimed mainly at couples. We usually travel to 4 or 5 star hotels, and we travel regularly to places like the Costa del Sol, Canaries, Balearics, Cyprus, Dominican Republic. We usually choose a hotel in a resort that gives us a decent level of comfort, good food, the option of a quiet night with a few drinks, a nice stroll with bars and restaurants along the way, or something livelier, if we feel like it. We chose the Hotel Florida, as this seemed to fit the bill nicely.

The hotel itself is in a great location, just a minute away from the beach. The reception areas are immaculate and the staff were very helpful and polite. We paid a bit extra for a superior room and it was worth every penny. We were on the 9th floor, the room had a long expanse of floor to ceiling windows with a great view across the marina and beach. The bathroom has very modern fixtures and a walk in shower that was fab, but it did leak water onto the floor as the shower screen wasn’t long enough to hold the water in. This may be a bit dodgy if you were unsteady on your feet. The beds were firm and comfy, and there was plenty of room. You also get an LCD TV, with a really good selection of English speaking channels. This is also the first European holiday hotel we’ve been to which has supplied tea and coffee facilities in the room. We got our towels changed twice a day, and the maids did a great job keeping the room spotless.
There is also a mini fridge in the room, we managed to get a couple of litre bottles of water in, about 4 cans (coke size) and a bar of chocolate!

The reason we have only given this hotel a rating of 3 is that it is let down on a couple of points. The first is that the food is awful. To be fair, breakfast wasn’t too bad, there was the usual cooked breakfast stuff, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, fresh fruit and some pastries. However, the evening buffet was the worst food we’ve ever been faced with in a 4 star hotel. We were quite surprised to see other reviewers praising the food, but I suppose it’s each to their own. Just some examples of the food offered: bland looking salads with recycled meats and fish from the previous evening and breakfast, and pretty much all covered in a rich dressing; a roast meat; boiled potatoes floating in greasy water; overcooked vegetables; plenty of chips!; and a small selection of desserts. It was unimaginative and just made us feel that the hotel didn’t really care about the quality of the food. We persevered for a few nights but it was so appalling we then decided to eat out for the rest of our stay. There are some great restaurants around the hotel, and we’d particularly recommend ‘Riva’ an Italian restaurant in the Marina – gorgeous food and a peaceful location overlooking the boats.

The other minus point is that, although the blurb for the hotel says there are several bars, there are actually only 2 in operation, the main bar and the entertainment bar in the basement of the hotel. There were several nights during our stay when the main bar was packed with Spanish locals who arrived to see a music duo who play there regularly. This meant that by the time hotel residents went to the bar after dinner, it was impossible to get a seat and many were left to sit on the sofas in reception and having to wait ages to be served a drink! We heard a few people complaining about this. We just took our custom elsewhere!
The entertainment programme isn’t too bad, and there seems to be something to suit everyone, from singers and magicians to flamenco.

Additionally, the hotel pool is the smallest we’ve ever seen, but unless you really are a ‘pool’ person this doesn’t matter as there is a fantastic beach just opposite the hotel. The pool area didn’t start to get any sun when we were there until about 11 a.m. and then it moved in slowly until the whole terrace got the sun at about 1 p.m. The pool area does not have enough sunbeds or space to cater for everyone at the hotel. However, you can get 2 sunbeds (with mattresses) and a parasol for 8 euros a day, and it’s worth it. The beach was kept clean, and the water was clean and great to have a swim in.

Fuengirola itself is a great resort, with lots to do. We’d return to the Hotel Florida, but only on a B&B basis!

loved the hotel

from apricots775
just returned from the hotel florida in fuengirola what a fantastic hotel the meals were excellent if no food you like then you must be extremely hard to please something for everybody the chef carved the meat in front of you and the food was piping hot we had a full english breakfast every morning spot on fruit was in abundance so were the cereals, the staff were very helpful and always smiling, my other half had his birthday when we were away and they sent a card in the morning and a cake was waiting when we had dinner at night. the rooms were stunning with plasma tv free fridge and safe the bathroom had three showers and a hugh bath we upgraded to a superior room which i would recommend you receive bathrobes and slippers and tea and coffee making facilities and your bed turned down every night. nothing was a problem to them and i would struggle to top this hotel and the food. would definatly go back which i never have done before. if anybody needs any information about this hotel please email only to pleased to answer any questions

Lovely hotel

from Cefnboy
Just returned from a 2 week stay and must say that the hotel is excellent. The standard of food is the highest hotel standard that we have experienced for some time. We only eat out once when we usually eat out 4 or 5 times. The only suggestions we offered to improve the meals were better variety of bread and more variety on eggs at breakfast (usually only fried). If anyone is offended by people wearing shorts at dinner then they might not like it but we thought the dining experience was excellent.
The overall cleanliness was also exceptional. We booked a superior room which consisted of the seafacing wall being entirely of glass which gave wonderful views. We were on the 7th floor but for even better views from the balcony I would suggest asking for the 8th floor and higher (12 floors). We had clean towels twice (twice) a day and bedlinen changed every other day. The aircon was very efficient and walk in shower (no bath) was superb.
The hotel staff that we had contact with were very friendly and helpful.
The one area which lets down the hotel is the pool area. The pool is only 1.4 mtrs at its deepest (therefore only really a plunge pool) and there is only room for 80 beds which with 180 rooms means that there may be people who may not get a bed. We had no difficulties on our stay but the hotel was only just over half full. We used the beach across the road two or three times and paid 8 euros for 2 beds and a parasol.
The entertainment that we saw was excellent and is mainly based on music to dance to. So if you like dancing this is for you. One word of warning the hotel allows smoking in the bar and entertainment area - my wife thought that that was an excellent idea!!
Also whilst Thomson doesnt book children into the hotel, children are allowed. However there are no child facilities and 2 weeks with children could become quite stressful for parents.

Great hotel and location

from boyofeurope
Just returned from the Florida and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and its location.

This was our first time to mainland Spain and did not know what to expect but had a great time and got out and about and enjoyed every minute.

The hotel is situated in a very good position on the seafront and just across the road from the beaches. Everything in the hotel is still virtually brand new and the rooms are a good size and has the added benefits of a free safe, fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. Our room which was kept immaculately clean was on the top floor which I requested and was granted and we had the added advantage of a great sea view.

The food was good full English breakfast and buffet dinner. We were going to Gibraltar on a trip one day and they even opened the restaurant early for us and provided a cold buffet breakfast and tea and coffee.

The only slight thing to complain about was the entertainment evenings mostly catered towards the Spanish and the locals flood in and take all the seats and then disappear when it is finished.

We also travelled with Thomson and they quoted it as couples only but there are children in the hotel.

We got out and about and caught the bus up to Mihas Village which was very nice and another day took another bus ride to Marbella and then onto Puerto Banus.

The bus schedule is very good and cheap just beware at the station of pick pockets a gentlemen on our bus had his wallet stolen.

We did the Thomson Gibraltar trip and went through the tunnels in the rock it was a brilliant day and I thoroughly recommend you do it as the scenery and history is fantastic.

All in all a good holiday, use this hotel, get out and use public transport and have great holiday and enjoy the Costa Del Sol as we did.

SPOLIT BY SMOKING ALLOWED AT THE BAR

from sunseaker55
Have just returned from this hotel, June 2007.The hotel was very good in all aspects; however if you are a non smoker you will not be pleased with the hotel's policy to allow smoking at the bar area.
The hotel does not have any smoke extractors, so the smoke drifts into the whole of the lounge, and dance floor areas.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere else in the hotel.
As far as i could find out this was the only 4 star hotel in the resort to allow smoking at the bar area.

Excellent Would recommend

from Durham_KB
We stayed for a four night break at the end of February 2007. The hotel is very new (only been open 4 months) and is ideally situated adjacent to the harbour. We paid extra for a superior room when we booked (very worthwhile) and were delighted with the room we were allocated. The superior rooms are located on the south west corner of the hotel and have two sides of the room with glass windows floor to ceiling! There is also a small balcony on the west side. This gives tremedous sea views and views across the harbour. (However note we were on the 10th floor and I would recommend anyone wanting good views to be on at least the 8th floor upwards as there is a building in front of the hotel which blocks the views from the superior rooms on the lower floors).
The restaraunt is very good - buffet breakfast and a 5 course meal on an evening (waiter served). We had no complaints about the food and the staff were very attentative and pleasant.
The hotel has a spa on the lower floor - which is free for guests - and very relaxing on a late afternoon. As the hotel was very quiet we had no problems getting into the spa - however in the busy season I would expect that you would have to book. The basic spa is free and you can pay for massages, facials etc if you want.
The outside swimming pool was warm enough to swim in - even at the end of February - but if you are a keen swimmer the pool is too small and too shallow for any decent swimming.
Entertainment was very limited - with a pianist playing in the bar. There are no facilities for children.
Overall we found the hotel to be very relaxing and comfortable and was excellent for what we wanted - a quiet break. I would recommend this hotel for couples - but not for families with young children. The beach is about 50yards away across the main road and appears to be very clean, with plenty of amenities - bars/food etc close by.

Great for winter break

from janet48
Just returned from a week at the Florida Spa and really enjoyed our stay in this impressive new hotel. There were probably only about 50 other guests - a good mix of couples and families - which made for a very friendly atmospere. Also the lovely spa never became crowded - this could be a problem when the hotel is full.
The restaurant staff were really friendly, and the food was fine - except for the boiled potatoes which most people abandoned in favour of chips. The large prawns on the nightly starter buffet were wonderful.
The rooms were well furnished and the views over the marina were fantastic. You could lie in bed and watch the boats. A few lower floor rooms on the side of the hotel would not have such good views so request a room on an upper floor or at the front.
The only evening entertainment was a piano player in the bar, but this will probably increase when there are more guests.
There is an outside pool with loungers around it, but the outside space is quite limited and could become under pressure in the high season - although the beach is just across the road.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful.
We were lucky to experience a newly opened hotel where neither the staff nor facilities were under pressure with too many guests, and I hope that the high standards will be maintained.

Top Local Tips for Fuengirola

a couple of tips Catching the train to Fuengirola from the aiport is easy and under 2 euros pp the hotel is 10 minute easy walk from the station, buses are easy to get around on and cheap, have a visit to Mijas its beautiful and if you go on a wednesday they have flamenco dancers in the square at 12-0clock. We did the trip to Gibralter with the rock tour, wouldnt do it again, we only got 5 minutes with the Monkeys, I would go on the ordinary bus and go up on the cable car then you can spend as much time as you like. watch out for the ticket touts, they tell you they are working for travel agents and have abta badges on, stinks of timeshare. My Sister got stopped and they mentioned holidays you could win and said Holiday Village Benalmadena was one, my sister said that it couldn't be as it is only first choice so they will tell you anything, we were sick of them. Hire a sunbed they are 8 euros for 2 with parasol very comfy

getting around Use the public transport to get around its cheap and convenient,

Good sightseeing Location Good area for getting around on local transport. Be aware pickpockets are active at the bus station .
