Lovely hotel in a great location, but to describe the restaurant hostess as surly would be an understatement. Many nice places to eat nearby.

Top Local Tips for Cuenca

Getting to Plaza Mayor, Castle & Posada de San Jose If you arrive at the bus station, the No1 bus (every 1/2 hour) from right outside will take you to the Plaza Mayor and as close to the Posada de San Jose as the taxi will take you. It is only 70c. The No. 1 & No.2 buses (alternate every 1/4 hour) will take you from the 'new' town to the 'old town' and castle ruins, again for only 70c. - pay the driver.

Hanging Houses We ate at the restaurant in the Hanging Houses or "Casas Colgadas". The food was excellent and the view is unbelievable. We had a table by a window. Not all staff speak much English but the service was very good and we had no problem ordering a great meal. We highly recommend it. There is also a musuem of modern art in the next building.

Casa Colgadas Restaurant Best in town. Spectacular views of gorge, hangs on cliffside overlooking the valley. Wonderful food, excellent friendly and efficient service, fine wine list. Fair prices. A very special place.
