Arrived on Sept 5th. Check in. Couldn't get it to room, door cards weren't working. Guy doing the night shift wasn't about to help us, so we were left out our room for 1 hr until he arrived with 2 mates smelling of booze. Hotel was really nice at night. Workers serving the drinks at nite had very dour faces unless u tip them. Cleaners nice and early every morning, cleaning rooms. Waitress very gd serving meals. Entertainment more for kids..1 nite there was a 3 girls dancing show, they were the best and sexy 2.

We found this hotel very good, staff, food, room, pool and area always clean, staff on duty,cleaning up, food first class, can't find a problem, that review, was by a winging brit after compensation, everybody on the coach had been there before, like us going again 2006, don't be put off by the winging brit.

Poor Sol D' or!

Just recently returned from La Pineda with my family where I stayed at this hotel as all inclusive. According to the brochures and websites it's rated as a three star, however once we arrived I started to wonder what the rating was based on? From the outside it looks very nice and quiet then when you enter the lobby it's very dark, dingy and stinks of old cigarette ends. The receptionists were very uncommunicative even though there was always one person among them who spoke fluent English. Air conditioning was only provided once you rented the remote, and the same with the safe key and lock. (Air conditioning was never any good anyway) Rooms are smelly and not very welcoming. Toilets sounded as thought they were about to explode and the towels were dirty. Luckily I travelled with some domestic distinfectant and set about cleaning the bath room from top to bottom before using it. The bed linen smelled musty (so had to use most of my perfume to get rid of some of the smell)and the maid only made up the beds rather than change the linen each day. (One maid actually told us off for making up the bed ourselves - well I think thats what she was trying to put across as she undid them and made them up again!!) - The swimming pools didn't look very inviting so stayed well away from them and went to the nearby Aquopolis water park instead. The entertainment was absolutely abismal and all in Spainish and the food was ok. Wouldn't go to this hotel again and wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy. The only saving grace is the environment, the area of La Pineda, the beaches and the activities and theme parks for the family. I say go stay somewhere else and not here. Two star rating.

Top Local Tips for Salou

Port Aventura buy your ticket ahead of time, the queues are outrageous in the summer. We bought ours at the hotel or you can buy online. with summer queues on the top rides reaching 2 hours, the 'max' pass to jump queues is a good idea, or you can 'fast track/express' one ride by getting a special ticket for a specific time, at a kiosk outside of the ride allowing you to jump the queue at one.

on arrival All Inclusive at the Sol Dor lasts exactly 14 days from the minute you arrive so it is available from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave but you can only get bar snacks i.e. burgers and hot dogs and chips (be careful sometimes the burgers aren't cooked properly) but you can get a cheese and ham toastie up to 11.00 pm and you will get a very small amount of cold food at the restaurant if you arrive late. When we arrived at the airport we had pre-booked a taxi and the man tried to get us to go on a bus/coach but I persisted and said I had booked a taxi so he got us a taxi. When we were departing you have to ring a number the day before and we were supposed to have a taxi but they sent a bus/coach but as it was just for us and didn't make any other stops I didn't complain. We thought our 12 year old daughter would be classed as an adult at the local waterpark but when the girl said two adults one child we didn't disagree.

Buses and taxis/ local markets./ doctors there is no return tickets on public transport which can add up. if you go to Port adventura go in the evening as there is not as long a quene but the bus fare goes up by about 1euro after 11pm. if you haggle with the taxis driver you may get a better deal... this also works with the local shops. there is a market in La Pineda every Friday which is good. again don`t be afraid to haggle. if you get sick remember you have to pay anything up to 65euros to see a doctor there is a chemist in La Pineda that gives good advice for free.
