Noisy Hotel

We have just got back from 2 weeks 23rd of June to 7th July 2007 at the Calypso hotel and it was a nightmare from start to finish most certainly the hotel from hell.
The room was barely adequate only 2 sockets one for the tv and one in the bathroom. the corridors filthy.
Unable to get a late room,nobody got one had to settle for a courtesy room for a shower which entailed waiting most of the day only one room available.
The Thompsons reps were a complete waste of time couldn't help with anything except selling you expensive trips.
Bar staff rude most of the time the hotel does not seem to cater for the English visitors brochures in every language except English.
The food was adequate and plentiful with a varied selection every day but you cannot please everyone we were satisfied and didn't go hungry,restaurant staff very nice hard working and always pleasant.
When we first arrived the place was full of Spanish children up to teenagers who to say the least were very noisy,these were followed by another mass of teenagers mainly English/Irish but just as noisy then there were the families from hell coming in at all hours of the night and letting everyone know by talking loudly punctuated with loud laughter this was on most nights up to 3 am.
2 nightclubs very nearby which carried on entertaining up to 5.30 am accompanied by all of the usual mid 20s to mid 30s laddie bawling and shouting.
To say that the Calypso hotel has been entertaining English guests for years baffles me because the staff didn't didn't seem to have much of a grasp of the English language even ordering a cup of tea was often difficult I know people will say that we should learn to speak Spanish but there we go.
We didn't get a complete nights sleep throughout the 14 days always disturbances through the night by other guests and nightclubs.
The entertainment in the hotel was plentiful and varied with the troup working very hard but the noise level of the entertainment was horredous way too loud you couldn't have a conversation across the table above the racket.
So,if you want a quiet restfull holiday do not go to the Calypso believe me you will regret it we wanted to come home after 4 days.
Overall the hotel wasn't very clean we never saw the floor area around the pool being cleaned ever,the furniture around the reception area was tatty and some of it torn some of the reception staff tried to be helpfull but not all of them it depended upon who was on duty at the time.
We had a terrible time there and wouldn't go back even if it was for free.

This is our 3rd time at the hotel Calypso and we find the service in the restaurant, bars and the rooms are first class, and we will be going back there next year. It is in a good location for the beach, the shops and all the entertainment around Salou

I love this hotel its so relaxing theres no need to feel uncomfy at all you always feel safe. I am hoping to be visiting the hotel every year!

Top Local Tips for Salou
Great Time Gotta try Port Aventura theme park, superb rides, adrenalin rush of a life-time is the Dragon Khan and the Hurakan Condor (this not recommended for people with a fear of heights and a bad heart, scary but exciting stuff). Also the Costa Caribe Water Park, great for kids and adults. For great food try "Jacks", have breakfast and a "Jack's Burger" at lunch it is yummy. On a Thursday, Friday and Sunday, try "Champions Bar" between 7 and 9 (everyday), 2 for the price of 1 cocktails, and between 9 and 11 on the days above there is a fantastic clown show, with Coco the Clown and his side-kick Crusty Craig. Funny stuff, a must for everyone young and old. 2 Mins walk from the hotel
Two fantastic trips! If you travel with Thomsons, do their City Tour to Barcelona, it was a fantastic day out. Go to Port Aventura for a fantastic day out, that was definitely the highlight of the holiday.
Watch out for flying fruit and debris in the buffet dining room.... A hard hat or don't go during the Spanish School holidays.

In the past have always stayed at 4 star hotels, thought we would give a 3 star a try as children now older, very impressed, really enjoyed it. Would go back again.
