Have been to Maritim on a few occassions, but 2005 was the worst holiday ever. Hardly any entertainment for younger people and children. We were bitterly disappointed. The restaurant ran out of basic foods 3 days into our holiday. There was no butter or margarine for a full day. We expected better, our holiday cost us £2500. We didn't want miracles we just wanted a little bit of pleasure.

We stayed at the Maritim Princess for one week from 29th may 2005. Our early morning flight meant that we arrived at the hotel at 10.30 and we were concerned that we would not be allowed to check in until the designated time of 14.00. The reception staff however, were marvellous. They checked us in and arranged for our luggage to be stored until our room was ready at noon!
The hotel is spotlessly clean with most rooms benefitting from either full or side seaview. The chambermaids were courteous, friendly and helpful. Beds changed twice and towels changed daily during our stay.
The dining room is huge, well organised and staffed with an army of efficient, helpful and friendly waiters and waitresses. Breakfast was fabulous, with a huge selection to tempt the faddiest of eaters. There was plenty of choice at other mealtimes, though perhaps a little too much fish for some tastes. Given that cambrils is a fishing port this was hardly surprising and the fish was delicious!
The swimming pools were clean, inviting and well supervised, as was the gym.
There was an excellent snack bar and a lunchtime resturant near the pool, as well as a huge american bar which opened early morning and closed about 1.00a.m. there was also a piano bar which opened in the evening only and seemed to be for adults only, which i thought was a good idea for child-free guests. There is also a hairdressing salon, a boutique selling various essentials, toys and gifts, several games machines, pool tables and internet access near reception.
The beach is just across a narrow promenade from the hotel. It stretches for about 6 kilometres from salou to cambrils. It is well provided with sun loungers and umbrellas and is clean and safe for children. You may get pestered by an assortment of folk peddling everything from sunglasses to cans of cola, but a firm "no thanks" is usually enough to send them on their way. The hotel's daytime entertainment was games and competitions run by the animation team, who were great with children and adults alike. Evening entertainment consisted of a mini-disco for the children, again run by the much-adored animation team. This was followed by prize-giving to the winners of the days games and competition winners, after which there was a professional act
(flamenco, acrobats, beatles tribute, singers etc.)Which lasted well over an hour.
The animation team put on a show one evening. They were really very good and extremely funny.
The hotel is situated some 6 kilometres from cambrils harbour and is actually much nearer salou, which is about a 20 minute walk. You can get a bus right outside the hotel that will take you into salou for 1.40 euro. To go to cambrils you need to turn right out of the hotel and the bus stop is a little way down on the opposite side of the road (1.60 euro).
The railway station in salou is easily reached and gives access to port aventura, tarragona, tortosa and barcelona. So there is no excuse for not exploring further afield should the fancy take you. We went to barcelona on the train. It took an hour and twenty minutes and cost just 10.20 euros return!
We had a wonderful holiday at the maritim princess and we are considering a return visit next year.
Give it a go - you will not be disappointed.
