Hotel was not the best we've stayed in but for the price it was more than adequate, food Ok but limited at breakfast. Rooms were clean and so was the reception area although reception staff were very slow. Would use again if on another budget holiday.
Brilliant staff & cleanest hotel in Spain.

This was our first visit to spain and westayed at hotel amaika in calella between 31st oct - 6th nov 07. It is a wonderful hotel: very clean, helpful staff and food very good. They will even make you a pack lunch if you are going out(full board only). It is only 1 hour on train from hotel to Barcelona - check it out but, take care Barcelona known for pickpockets and beggars. Suggestion: wear comfy footwear girls - big place nice shops. We went home on day of rangers v barcelona match thank god very noisy nite before. The beach is very clean, weather was great. We will be going back next year. Trust me you will enjoy this hotel. My husband and I give it 10/10.jenny n kev.sheffield

I totally disagree with the last review, My huband and I both absolutely loved our time at the Amaika. The price we paid was amazing for the accomodation and level of luxury we recieved! The location was excellent, 100 yards from the beach and in the middle of the town without being too noisy. We had a sea view by the way! Our room was clean, spacious and as already mentioned a gorguoes view from a big balcony!!
Very clean!

A nice hotel. The staff were fairly helpful. Very clean and hygienic. Food was ok but not to my taste. Went out to eat most nights. Not the best time of year to go, very quiet and the weather was a nightmare. Very little to do unless the sun is shining! At night, the place seemed to transform into chav-land!
Fabulous

This hotel was the best, it's got a bit of a small pool but it's got things on for all different people, everybody has something to do. the entertainment is brilliant and the rooms are lovely and everyone is so nice I met a lovely couple while staying at the Amaika and they was really nice all the staff are great and friendly in every way they can be so that's my comment on the Amaika hotel it really was a joyful experience and will surely be going back in the near future xxxx Jessica xxxxx
What 4 star?

Location was great but no porter, empty room bar, basic accommodation, worst service ever. This is a YMCA type lodging building. Staff unhelpful, coarse and uncultured. Must be avoided at all costs by luxury travellers. Not even a 2 star!!!!!!!! Who classified it as 4 star???
Glorified boarding house

The hotel was more of a glorified boarding house than a four star establishment. The Room bars were empty (you had to choose a package before it was filled), the bath towels were so thin and harsh (an excellent sandpaper match for the bread in the restuarant), and you had to leave a deposit to get a remote control for the tv (no video or internet in the whole of the hotel). The restaurant served some awful wine (no wine list unless you ordered/brought in a drink from the bar)and the staff were terribly unhelpful (eet ees not our company/ not in thees hotel). The gym was the size of a shoe box and only two people could be in there at the same time, there were no beauty treatments, and by passers could see through to the pool area as they walked down the street. The rooms were clean though. If the Dorchester in London is a four star hotel, Amaika does not deserve to be a two star. Please think carefully before you book your holiday with them to avoid disappointment.
