I have not long paid a visit to the hotel Melia Benidorm and im more than positive it wasn't my last visit! The hotel was out of this world it was gorgeous! The food was fantastic, it had something to suit everyone because usually i'm a fussy eater but i found something to eat every night. Also the rooms were great sizes and had everything you need in them! The staff were also very kind and would help you with anything you needed, all you had to do was ask, even with staff behind the bars and entertainment staff! Another thing i liked was you never had to get up early and lay down your towel. You could go down at any time and you would always get a bed, not that the hotel was empty, because it was full! There was just always enough beds! The entertainment was also very good there was always something to do and it was a great help because i went with my younger cousin and usually she would be nagging me to do everything with her but she had the kids club to go to so i was left to sit in peace! Same at night there was always entertainment on! And the last thing i would like to say is if anyone is thinking of going to Melia Benidorm dont think anymore just book it you will love it no matter what age you are there is something in this hotel for you! I went with my family of all ages and not one of us had a bad thing to say !!!!

lovely hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed in the Melia from 9 to 19 March. The actual building was very impressive, with lots of flowers and plants in the lobby.

Our room was clean and a fridge and safe were provided free of charge. There were even two bottles of water in the fridge, with the compliments of the hotel.

I have coeliac disease, which means that my diet is quite restricted. Obviously, there were lots of salads and fresh fruits which I could eat. However, I could not eat pasta or pizza or some of the dishes which were in sauces.

I had prepared a card explaining this (as my Spanish is not very good). The hotel could not have done any more for me. The chef cooked me a meal each evening (chicken or fish with a huge selection of vegetables) and on the third day she had actually bought gluten free bread and crackers for me.

The only complaint I had was that, apart from the items being freshly cooked, some of the food in the hot trays was not particularly hot.

Apart from that I have no complaints about the hotel.

BEWARE!!

We stayed at the Melia Benidorm for one week at the beginning of March. We found everything to our satisfaction. The safe in the room was free of charge, there was a mini bar that could be used as a refrigerator (also free of charge) and the food in the restaurant was excellent.

The first and most minor problem arose two days after we arrived. You may think it is not worth mentioning, but you will see why I do later on. We returned to our room about 4.30 p.m. and put the kettle on for a cup of tea. We had put two Kit Kats in the fridge the day before and when I went to get them out, one had disappeared! WE had definitely NOT eaten it!!

The second and much more annoying problem came when we had someone (a female we presumed!) moved in above us and return to the room at 3.30 a.m. and proceeded to pace up and down constantly in high heels and moving furniture around until 4.30 a.m., only to start the same antics yet again at 8.00 a.m! We went down to breakfast and returned to our room at about 10.30 to find that it was still going on. Our next door neighbour was on the landing – he had his family there and they were in three rooms on the same floor – they too had all heard the goings on for half the night and morning and we jointly went down to reception to complain. The reception staff didn’t really seem bothered by what we were telling them but they did eventually offer to move us and asked us to come back at 1.30 p.m. At no time did they offer to move the offending guest, they only said if it happened again, we should ring down and they would ask her to stop! We returned as requested at 1.30 and were given a keycard for a room on a higher floor. We were not offered the use of a porter to help us to move our stuff.

After several trips back down to reception because the room key for our original room was now no longer working and we couldn’t get in (!) we eventually packed up and moved at about 3.00 p.m. (by the way, Mrs Shift-It upstairs was still “at it” even then!!).

My husband had bought a new pair of shoes the day before so he left his old ones in the box the new pair came in and left them in our old room under the dressing table and said the maid could “dispose of them”, albeit I did say that she would probably get them returned to us in our new room as we had forgotten them!? Remember the Kit Kat? Well, I think the shoes went the same way, because they weren’t returned to us.

On the day of departure and whilst we were packing, my husband realised that he couldn’t find his spray (he used Dr Bachs Rescue Remedy as he is a nervous traveller). He said he had put it in the safe in our old room. As I had emptied the safe when we moved I said I must have missed it – so, we went down to reception yet again. They told us that all lost/found property left in the rooms had to be logged by the maid and if anything had been found, it would be in the book – so by rights, there should have been a pair of shoes and the spray – needless to say, when they checked with the maid she said that nothing had been found and as far as they were concerned that was the end of it!

Whilst all of this was going on, a gentleman came over to me and said he had been listening to our conversations with the reception staff and had we had something “stolen”? I told him the story and said that we were not completely convinced that the maids were to be trusted, after which he told he that he had just reported that some money had gone missing from his room between his leaving his room for breakfast and returning at about 2.30 that very day! He did say that stupidly he had not put it in the safe but that it was not just loose on the dressing table etc., but that it had been inside a wallet type folder with a couple of other documents (the documents were still in the wallet).

Obviously you can draw your own conclusions on this one, as we did, but I have to say that of all the hotels I have stayed in up to now I don’t think I have ever had anything go missing, but I will certainly be more wary in the future!

the only place to stay in benidorm

from lisabr
In the last 12 months,I have stayed at the melia Benidorm 3 times, twice on holiday, once on business. It is by far the best hotel I have stayed at in Benidorm and I have been there about 20 times before. The breakfast buffet is excellent, the rooms very clean and tidy with bathrobes,mini-bar,etc.Just what you would expect from a 4star city hotel.
I recommend you start the evening relaxing in the piano lounge with a few drinks before heading into big brash benidorm(what a difference!)yes, this hotel is the best way to experience Benidorm, you get the best of both worlds.

Lovely hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just returned from my first visit at the Hotel Melia Benidorm which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am a travel agent and value reports on hotels but reading some of the reports from people I wonder if they live on a different planet. I spoke to a lady on the coach from the airport to the hotel (by the way she had never stayed at this hotel) and she asked me where I was staying, when I said the Hotel Melia - she said oh yes thats the one up the hill. I was expecting a walk up a steep hill to the hotel every time I went out. What hill!!!! It is not on the main drive but is certainly not on a hill. There were quite a number of wheelchair and disabled people in the hotel who managed to get about with no problem. The meals were of good standard with a good choice. I was allocated a double room on arrival (but staying with my friend) we went back to reception and asked for a twin room. Reception staff were very helpful. There was no problem and given a twin room which was immaculate inside. Great power shower with plenty of hot water. Small fridge in room with 2 free bottles of water. I know as a travel agent that people want a five star hotel for the price of a 3 star. This hotel was a 4 star and for the price I paid was great value for money. Spoke to a few other guests and they thought it was lovely too. In fact one couple had already booked a holiday to Turkey for next year with their children and were going to go back to their travel agent to change it to the Hotel Melia as they thought it was ideal for their small children. I would not hesitate in recommending it to my clients and would certainly go back to this hotel. If people do not like this hotel then I think that there must be something seriously wrong with them and they should just stay at home. Probably their homes are not up to the first class standards that they want the hotel to be!!!!

Excellent holiday

from MargaretDougall_123
Stayed at this hotel in Otober 2004.The rooms are excellent with a small fridge.more like the rooms you would get in a good hotel at home. The pool and surrounding grounds are very nice and a bit different from the usual pools you get. The entrance to this hotel is very classy. On the whole this hotel felt a bit upmarket. Food was good. Can't comment on entertainment at night as we were out every night at the clubs and pubs. would definately use this 4 star hotel again.

cut above the rest

from jacqui12
i have stayed in several hotels in spain and this is the very best. food is extremely good with a wide variety. chefs cook the fish and meat in front of you on the buffet bar. fresh food all the time.
pool is a lovely large lagoon style with 2 jacuzzi. rooms are very nice with 2 sunloungers on balcony.
staff are very helpful. This is not a package deal type hotel. no entertainment at night apart from a very good pianist but who needs hotel entertainment when there are plenty of bars across the street and the lively area 10mins walk away.

What incline?

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just read the review above of the Melia. Was it listed under the wrong hotel? The Melia is not on an incline and,as far as I know, is not described as being in any brochure.

True, there aren't many English people stay there as it is only listed now in one or two English brochures. The food was excellent with even a choice between Spanish and English sausages at breakfast. The only things I didn't like about this hotel were that too many non-guests used to get in to the pool area and there was very little entertainment at night.

Oh dear, oh dear

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was booked through Accessible Travel as being suitable for disabled holidaymakers. My mother requires a wheelchair for long distances and therefore the melia seemed ideal.

Unfortunately, the 'incline' referred to in the operators brochure is in fact a steep hill which there is no possibility of getting up. Taxis have to be used both up and down the hotel which really shouldn't be the case. Granted, not the hotels fault but nayone thinking of booking this for disabled travellers really need to think long and hard about this.

Regrettably, the hotel itself was not enjoyed either. The food was "crap" to use my mothers words and believe me, from her, that's strong language!

To make matters worse there were very, very few English people staying at the hotel which made it a lot more difficult to mix with others.

She certainly won't be returning at any time in the future.

the superb melia

This is a fantastic hotel!. The rooms were clean an tidied on time every day ( always fresh towels). the food was out of this world what ever you wanted and plenty of it. outside pools were always busy , you have to get up early to get a lounger though. staff very friendly and polite . Victor the piano player always smiling.I loved the morning step class in the pool even though i dont understand spanish you know what she is saying anyway. I stayed at the Melia on the 14 aug 2004 an can't wait to go back again.

FANTASTIC ALL ROUND COMFORT

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Melia Benidorm is one of if not the best tourist/holiday hotel i have stayed in in Spain.
The staff were extremly courteous and friendly. the food was fantastic, the breakfast was superb, with every choice you could think of every day.
Lunch and dinner was also excellent, it has its own pizza a bar so all the kids loved that, there was a chef cooking meats and fish every day and night. the spa, the hairdressers was brilliant and i for one loved the style i came home with, "Thank you Michel".
The massage therapists were also excellent and highly recommended. The rooms were pleasant and cool, excellent views from your balcony what ever room you had. 10/10 Highly reccomended.
