Just returned from a weeks stay at the Pi-Mar Hotel in Blanes. The hotel is located right opposite the beach in between the new and old town. Be warned though this stretch of beach gets very busy and you are better off walking a few hundred yards either way for more space, plus the further up the beach you go the cheaper the sun bed higher is, right outside the hotel they charge 4 euros for a bed and 4 euros for an umbrella, however further up the beach they charge 3 euros for a bed. The hotel does provide entertainment but it is aimed at the spanish tourists that stay there. Hotel bar prices are quite reasonable and they do some lovely desserts. The hotel pool is situated on the 6th floor along with a sun terrace. Be warned the pool is freezing and the terrace only has 14 sun beds so gets full very early, that said there is a lovely beach just opposite the hotel and you can always use the pool at Solmar Camping just down the road.

Meals are buffet style with a good selection for breakfast but you won't get your full english here and the restuarant gets quite busy on an evening so you will have to queue. We found if we went down for our evening meal after 1900 (opening time) at about 1945 the queues had gone down.

The night porter Hafid is really helpful and will go out of his way to make you feel welcome.

All in all we had a nice time and would use the Pi Mar again.

Top Local Tips for Blanes

Fireworks! Every year around middle to end of July Blanes holds a spectacular, eye watering, absolutely International Fireworks Competition! Honestly they are nothing like the pathetic fireworks in England they are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth an are truely amazing! they have them over the sea and the blanes rock and they light up the whole sky! people travel from as far as china/japan to take part in this competiton and travellers from all over the world come to see them! i would say it is best to book your holiday at this time of year so you are able to see them! seriously they are the most amazing thing i have ever seen!

Far from the train station The hotel is far from the train station to go to Barcelona. It takes 10 minutes to go by bus, but you may wait 30 minutes for the bus.
