Top Local Tips for Bilbao

Very easy to navigate city Bilbao is very easy to navigate. You don't need a car. It's about a 20 minute easy taxi ride from the airport (25 Euros), and once you're there the trams make it easy to get around. You buy a tram ticket at the kiosk at the tram stop. If you don't speak Spanish or Basque, it's impossible to figure out how to price where you're going. The easiest thing is to just buy a 5 Euro card, which allows you multiple rides. Each time you use it, the machine you put it in prints how much you have left right on the card.

Two galleries deal Ask for a joint ticket for the Guggenheim and the Museo de Bellas Artes - only 14 euros in September 2007. They are only a few minutes walk apart and make a good contrast. You do need stamina to visit 2 art galleries in one day, but the Guggenheim is a fantastic building while the Bellas Artes has some really good pieces. Just be selective and have coffee breaks!

tram If you ride the tram, you must have a tram ticket. The clerk at the hotel said we could use a bus ticket on the tram. Not so. We were fined $11.00 because we had the wrong ticket.
