4* on a budget its a steal mate!!

Just back from Las Arenas. The hotel might be not quite 4 star but almost and in most areas definately is. But are you getting a bargain? We were £355 for 9 nights less than £40 pounds a night ( for 2) half board. Don,t whinge, the cleanliness is excellent, the entertainment is great some nights, OK others, the food is good even for my very fussy husband, and the location is fairly central.
I liked this hotel, I could be very picky about some things as some people have but recognise a bargain when I get one and Las Arenas offered a good holiday at a great price!!

Las Arenas - The best hotel in Benalmadena

Being our first visi to spain we where pleasently surprised by the the hotel. Expecting new developments to be overlooking the back door, we were very pleased that this hotel was well established with no building work around. The hotel is 100% spotless offering 3 lifts for the not so agile, ensuite, balcony and bidet i n the rooms.... The rooms are cleaned every day and clear instructions left.... If you want clean sheets or towels simply put them on the floor and they will be replaced. The sea front is only accross the road and boasts an absolute fantastic walk approx 1mile to the Marina. With 100's of local restraunts and bars to suit, not to mention local bus stops, rail travel and coaches to Gibralta this hotel would suit any person of any age. If you want to explore the area then only book B&B or the more mature who wishes to relax half or full board. The inhouse resteraunt is the best by far and breakfasts out of this world. Any complaints.... Not a single one. Clean friendly good food and beer, happy hour 5-6pm 2 for 1 should not be missed. The pool and sunbathing area is elevated and 100% surrounded by barriers making it ideal for kids.
Too noisy

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel having been influenced in our choice by the many favourable reviews. The meals were certainly of a good quality with a great deal of choice and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, we did have some problems with having our room cleaned properly and had to ask for this to be done on more than one occasion. The main problem we found though was the traffic noise from the busy main road right outside the hotel. We had a room on the fifth floor to the side of the hotel but the traffic could be clearly heard throughout the day and night. Moreover, the hotel's pool overlooks this main road and is not exactly a relaxing place to spend the day sunbathing.
It was our first visit to Benalmadena and the Spanish Costa Del Sol and considering our experience at this hotel and the resort's plague of time-share touts and fake CD and DVD salesmen, it will probably be our last.

stayed @ the las arenas hotel from 14th.march - 23rd. march, in our opinion, it really is a top class hotel, warm & friendly staff,cant do enough for you, rooms all have sea view, cleaned every day, towells changed every day,the day we arrived asked for two extra pillows @ reception, & the maid was waiting with them before we arrived @ the room. every thing is no trouble to them, they are exceptional staff indeed.always plenty of very hot water on hand,food very good always warm. indeed we cannot fault this hotel on anything, a really 1st class hotel, we will be back there again soon.

Just back from a 3 night stay at the Hotel Las Arenas, and it was just spot on! Wonderful food and comfortable surroundings. Great spot for people watching, nice pool area, and friendly staff.
I can thoroughly recommend this for a short recharge the batteries break as the flight and transfer times are reasonable. It felt like a real holiday as we had the full 3 days too. Great value with Flyglobespan.
The weather was a bonus. 26 degrees when we left on Monday. 2 degrees when we landed back in Glasgow....
There were singles, couples and people of all ages in the hotel, and the entertainment was pretty good too. I'd recommend it in a shot, and have already!. I'll definitely go back - probably take my Mum, as the promenade and walking surfaces are pretty good.

I guess the rooms at the front would get a lot of street noise as it is a busy road - but we were in 620 with side views of the sea, and nice and quiet. sun on the balcony for most of the afternoon too. Bliss - sun, sea and chilled Cava from the fridge! (don't miss it - it's hiding behind a cupboard) I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.

We booked this hotel based on postings on this page and were not disappointed. We had a spotless huge room on the 5th floor well back from the main road. Everything actually worked.
Staff were far and away the most pleasant that we have encountered in Spain. Maids were very regular and Miki in the restaurant was really nice.
We didn't use the bars or the entertainment much but both were ok. The problem was that the huge number of Brit pensioners tended to book all the seats in the non smoking section. They were all very nice, mind.
The hotel was slightly further from the centre than we had realised but the walk into the marina was pleasant. Bus stops are close and costs were cheap. However, buses were heaving and the journey to Malaga seemed to take forever. We found that it was more convenient to use the train that was both quicker and cheaper. The station is about 20mins walk with a good section through an attractive park. (Watch out for the timeshare touts at the entrance) The station is also the best place to catch a bus to Mijas. Again, the fare is remarkably cheap while the journey itself is interesting.
Don't go on the tour company trips!! You can get them cheaper from the nearby travel agents. The one just past the Windmill roundabout was cheapest. Smokers should book the trip to Gibraltar at 11 euros, good value when you find that 200 British fags cost £9 (£23 in Spain) We also did the Ronda tour, again good value. Worth paying the extra for the guide if you've not been before.
The only, very minor, criticism is the restaurant. The seating area is reasonably spacious and it was pleasant to have proper table covers and cutlery set out on the tables. Even better was getting proper tea or coffee pots at breakfast. There was a wide variety of food that was well cooked and plentiful. However, the buffet area was on the small side and tended to get congested. Matters were not helped by the pensioners' ability to gossip in the queues. Bet they shop in Asda back home!!!
In conclusion, we would certainly recommend this hotel and, from looking at the other resorts, feel that this part of Benalmadena was the most pleasant of the touristy bits.

Fantastic food

Spent 6 days at this hotel from 16 October and had a great time. The food is fantastic - lots of variation, really first class. The location is fantastic - just by the beach. The hotel is really clean, and the lounges/bar are spacious. And above all we had an amazing deal - £300 for 2 adults and 2 children through winter sunshine holidays - basically the kids stayed for free.
The downside of the hotel was the pool - not the most attractive area and far too cold to stay in for very long. If you were in the height of summer I guess it would be fine, but I felt it was more like a 2/3star pool area. The entertainment within the hotel was low key - we didn't really make use of it, but plenty of people did so there was a nice atmosphere for a quiet drink.
There seemed to be more older visitors & young familes to the hotel - not a place for teenagers.
Benalmedena has a lovely marina - but drinks are expensive there. The resort as a whole didn't do much for me - I have visited much nicer places. It was quite a sprawled out town with lots of empty bars, and not much of an atmosphere or buzz. Again, I would imagine in summer its a very different place.
But if I was was to return again I would definately choose Las Arenas - the food in the hotel was better than that of any hotel I have visited before.

Ideal Location

I went on a week's holiday with a friend. I have been to the resort the previous year and had liked the look of the hotel enough to book this year. The hotel has a central location, where the marina, park, bars and restuarants are all within walking distance. The hotel is situated on a busy road so if you're hiring a car this hotel would not be ideal. However, across the road is the beach where two comfy sunbeds and a parasol costs 8 euros a day. The resort and hotel is easy to reach from the airport - a taxi will cost around 20 euros. There is also an excellent bus service to Torremolinos and Fuengirola costing 1.20 euros if you fancied a change of scenary. There is a model Train from the Marina to Tivoli World (Theme park). The Waterworld is at Mijas just outside Fuengirola. There is also an excllent shopping centre "Miramar" at Fuengirola if the weather is not so good with a Cinema complex that shows films in English for 5 euros. Back to the hotel.... which was very clean and spacious. It also had air conditioning which was a bonus on a night. The rooms were cleaned and beds changed every day. However, the maid did tend to get earlier as the week progressed. She surprised us one morning when she came in at 9.30 a.m! The room had plenty of wardrobe space and enough coat hangers for us girls.... The waiters and staff were very friendly. They were very quick and efficient. The bar prices were very competitive and the sangria wasn't too bad either. The ice cream was gorgeous. We only visited the pool once because the beach was across the road. It was quite small and had a terrace with sunbeds and a pool table. As the afternoon wore on, we had to constantly reposition the sunbed to keep out of the shade. Because we stayed out quite late on a number of occasions we did not get to breakfast but could eat out quite cheaply at around 5 euros. When we did make breakfast it was much of the same really. Not really impressive but edible! The evening meals were excellent if you like buffet style. We preferred to eat on some evenings because of the excellent restaurants on he seafront and marina. There was plenty of choice and very nice. However, the meal always seemed a bit rushed especially at busy periods when people were waiting for a table which were closely situated together. We could hear the conversation of people at nearby tables. You could not make an evening of the meals as you would in a restaurant. Overall, the hotel is above average and is excellent value for money - especially if you get a sea view like we did. We had an excellent time and would recommend the resort and hotel for its cleanliness, service and location.

my son age 11 and myself spent a week at this hotel from1/8/2006. I agree with the previous comments, we could not fault this hotel for the cleaniness. Our room was serviced every day and towels were replaced daily.
The location is also excellent, over a busy road from the beach but there are traffic lifgts almost outsiide the hotel to gain easy access there. The beach is very rough shail and very hard going on the feet, probably thats why so many people chose to stay around the pool!. There are shops and bars very close by so you need not walk too far for the bustling life of the costa de sol.
Now the down side................. The swimming pool is ok, but not enough sunbeds for all ! The terrace area around the pool is clean but very 2 star rating, there is a small pool table and a small darts area and a small pond ! there is nothing on this terrace making it a 4 star, e.i. no bar, no snacks no bright colours it look very bland. In late afternoon some of ther the pool area is shaded, but you can move around the terrace as not all is in the shade.
The staff were friendly enough but I never got any service from the waiters in the lounge bar on an evening, as i had my son with me (my hubby could not get time off) , I was always ignored I presume they must have though I was awating for my partner so they chose to ignore me and had to go to the bar myself, this happened on several occasions.
The food was ok, nothing fancy filled an empty tummy.
Overall I would rate this as a 3 star and possibly would go back if I caould get a full week for £50

Great hotel for any occasion

I went to this hotel earlier in the month with 2 friends from university. On checking in, we were informed that they had a lovely room for us girls and they weren't kidding!! We had booked a room with 2 beds and a fold out and were given a room with 4 beds that was huge! The room we booked also had a 'partial' sea view but we were given a room facing right onto the front with a panoramic view of the beach and the sea.
The staff were really lovely and extremely helpful. Overall the resort was perfect for a girly catching up on gossip holiday, but if you want culture and sightseeing then Benalmadena is not for you!! However it catered for our needs perfectly (although fewer English bars and restaurants would have been nice!) I would definately return to this hotel if i went back to Benalmadena.

Top Local Tips for Benalmadena Costa
Taxis Gibralta Dont panic about dodgy taxis...All fares are max at 20 Euro so you wont be ripped off. If you go to gibralta get the Taxi tour and not the cable car... Just as dear but 100 times better.. Dont feed the monkies no matter what people say.. They can be nasty.. I was bitten!
tour bus for 13 euros you can get the open top bus from the bus stop across the road and it takes you to the marina, marine life and tivoli world and is valid for 24 hours and is a great way to see about
carefull on who you book A taxi from benalmadena to the airport cost me 20 euros if the airport taxis are the same it will work out cheaper than booking most of the internet taxis advertising shuttle services, i paid 43 pounds to resorthoppa only to be let down on the return trip by their taxi failing to turn up after following their instructions on phoning day before homeward journey and being given a time to be picked up.
