Excellent hotel in every respect

We are experienced travellers and found this to be a very good 5 star hotel. The accommodation and facilities were splendid and the staff were very keen to please and did please. The prices were commensurate with similar 5 star hotels. We look forward to returning before too long.

Extortionate bar prices

We booked this hotel because it was close to the Nou Camp and we were going to watch a game, and it was 5*. We were told that we have been upgraded when we arrived as they didn't have any non-smoking rooms left. If that was the upgraded room, I dread to think what the standard room was like. Very small, old fashioned, dreary. The bar prices are also extremely expensive. A small bottle of fanta orange was 5.5 euro's!!! I wouldn't recommend as a 5* - more like a 3/4. Great location for football.

The hotel was overpriced, but clean and functional, the conference facilities are efficient, but it lacks personality.

Be aware that this hotel is a good 45mins/1hr brisk walk from the centre of Barcelona. While it's a pleasant enough hotel I find it incredible that it displays 5 stars. I booked the hotel solely on the star rating and, in that respect, was very dissapointed as it is certainly not what I expect from 5 stars. However, it's clean and tidy and the concierge is excellent.

Top Local Tips for Barcelona

Must see Casa Batlo (Gaudi's work) My husband and I are great fans of Antoni Gaudi's work. Casa Batlo was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip to Barcelona!! It cost about 17 Euros to visit it, but it is WELL WORTH the ticket price!!

Metro ten-ticket The ten-ticket metro ticket can be used by two people. Simply put it into the validation machine twice.

bicycle rental You can rent bikes for any length of time you desire. There are bike rental companies like Bike Barcelona which I used and recommend for about 100euros/week or you can pickup bikes in several places around the city from "vending" machines -- kind of like airport luggage carts. Inserting money unlocks a bike. Ride it around and when you're done return it to the same place or another rental rack elsewhere. Neat. Also, biking in Barcelona is nice because of the many bike paths that parallel the streets and sidewalks, but you still end up riding a fair amount on both streets and sidewalks. I wouldn't recommend it with young children, but your teenagers would probably enjoy the challenge. Barcelona is a beautiful city to bike in -- you see things you definitely wouldn't see otherwise.
